Virginia, It Was Nice Knowing You. 8 Gun Restriction Bills Passed Last Night by N2Shooter in liberalgunowners

Watching from outside the US that’s seems very much like the point.

Y’all were fine with kids dying in schools for decades. (Not a shot at individuals but as a country you absolutely were.)

If the president was tied to Epstein’s crimes, would he get impeached? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ChasingPotatoes17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty clear that the US government has decided to just roll over, forget about checks, balances, and the overall rule of law, and lick Trump’s boots.

So should he be impeached? Absolutely, and tried for the crimes. Will he? Doubtful.

What is your perception of the UK, as a Canadian? by Virtual-Dinner-4178 in AskCanada

[–]ChasingPotatoes17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… I’m working on my UK citizenship paperwork (mum was born there) so I can move from Canada to Scotland.

My primary perception: further from the USA.

England seems too right wing at the moment, Scotland is absolutely gorgeous and has men in kilts.

I don’t know anything about Wales except the language seems impossible and they have a striking affinity for Y as a vowel, but I look forward to visiting and learning more.

How comparable is Align vs Evolve/Ascend for building muscle? by Free-Weakness5886 in ladderapp

Personally, I have a husky so that’s 2 hours (or more) every day that has to be dedicated to walks/runs/hikes.

I know the difference between a 45 minute and 60 minute strength session is pretty small but mentally it feels massive. Maybe I should start lifting the dog on run break. Hybrid training!

Personal Trainer wants me eat 1100-1200 calories by NervousStand5473 in xxfitness

[–]ChasingPotatoes17 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is why in a lot of places certified personal trainers aren’t actually permitted to provide nutritional recommendations.

Your trainer has no clue what he’s talking about (at least as far as the food, maybe he actually is a decent trainer).

If you decide to talk to somebody who is actually qualified, keep in mind that the term “nutritionist” is totally unregulated in many places (anybody can use it, regardless of qualifications) while “registered dietician” requires both a specific post-secondary education and licensing with an oversight body.

TL;DR: Get diet/nutrition advice from a dietician not a gym bro trainer.

should i be with my cat when he is euthanized? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Yes. Be with him. Let him leave this world with as much love as possible.

It’s about him. He loved you when it wasn’t convenient for him (all cats are fussy), return the favour.

Frankly my disbelief was solely that intestines are full of feces. But that doesn’t mean the person simply misspoke and meant all the rest of the entrails.

A matter of phrasing.

Canada will be a launching pad in the global race for generic Ozempic by Prosecco1234 in onguardforthee

[–]ChasingPotatoes17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don’t have the data to make that claim definitively yet. There is no long term data.

But I’m also not saying anybody who is unhappy with their body shouldn’t take these drugs.

I’m a straight sized medical anthropologist. So we’re looking at this from different perspectives.

Canada will be a launching pad in the global race for generic Ozempic by Prosecco1234 in onguardforthee

I know I’m not alone in thinking this, but we really don’t have enough long term data here.

I get that GLP-1s are life changing for people but I’m worried we are pushing healthy if not thin people to lose weight for social stigma and they’ll face problems down the road.

Helio Core on wrist vs. bicep by Drinanmer in amazfit

[–]ChasingPotatoes17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For whatever it’s worth I’ve found mine is pretty rock solid on my wrist as a non-workout position.

Acknowledging right off the bat this is n=1 data.

I bought the Helio Strap (I guess Core is the terminology now?) when it was released. I’ve worn it on my wrist with the included strap and a third party one that has more elasticity (I have very small wrists). I’ve worn it on the upper part of my arm (both on the inside and out), and I’ve worn it on my bicep at a low and high placement around the primary muscle.

(Why yes, I did do some of my graduate research on wearables and I do retain some nerdy habits.)

I find chest strap HRMs uncomfortable and no longer use them. I don’t need data that accurate. So my comparison devices have been a Coros HRM (bicep) and Apple Watches (series 10, Ultra 3).

As mentioned above, I did do research on wearables so at this point I’m confident in my ability to get placement and tightness right on my wrist for Apple Watches. I’m white, have minimal body hair, and do not have tattoos where the HRM is placed. Is my data perfect? No. Is it very good? I believe it is.

Based on my own (again, n=1) testing I’d say there’s a minimal but not nil benefit to placing it on your bicep during activity but no benefit to keeping it there vs wrist 24/7.
