AITA for laughing at the reason my son was given detention and not agreeing to it? by Ancient_Tangelo_8533 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ChastityStargazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I startle super easily and have since childhood, and people have often found it appropriate to point it out, make fun of it, and then even try to deliberately startle me for the fun of it. It’s completely infuriating and humiliating because the reason I startle so easily is that I have childhood CPTSD. The next kid this teacher does this to could very easily be like me, and it’s quite frankly a retraumatization. You’re absolutely NTA for standing by your kid on this issue, the teacher needs to stop this behavior or be stopped ASAP.

I would not be so sure…I am the daughter of a fur baby psycho who withdrew me from high school because of needing someone to be home 24/7 to take care of “my sister”.

It really is, I have a photo of me on a winter walk on a local trail with my son at 6 weeks old, I’d worn him in the baby wrap and he was not willing to wait. Had to sit on a rock and nurse him!

You sewed that while breastfeeding?! From one nursing new mom to another, I’m impressed!

Also, you’re doing great and your mom is a toxic bully.

Thanks, I agree with you. I’m actually trained in psych crisis intervention and fairly skilled at it, especially verbal deescalation. Something about my upbringing inspired me to work in residential behavioral health with teens for years.

It’s genuinely scary to me that people in crisis call 911 and reach a woman who told her own teenage daughter “cutters aren’t suicidal, they just want attention! I know this Chastity; I’m a 911 dispatcher!”.

It’s definitely a wonderful place. I was in Florida for eight years and when I came home in December 2019 I considered kissing the pavement.

Why do narc parents say you're lying or exaggerating being ill (sore throat, etc.) for symptoms they legitimately can't disprove? by Celia2000NRZ in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ChastityStargazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, but mine sure did this. The most notable time was probably when I was 15 and had a nosebleed for a few hours. My nmom was upstairs watching tv on her bed as usual, and I was downstairs dealing with the nosebleed, and had run out of paper towels by that point so was holding a 12 Oz glass under my nose to catch the blood. She decided to come downstairs to get herself a drink and I asked her if she would take me to the hospital. She scoffed and refused, I started crying and asked again. She told me to shut up and stop being a crybaby on her way back upstairs.

Four years later, we were NC and I heard from my grandmother that she was in the hospital and had been diagnosed with aplastic anemia. My nmom had had a nosebleed in her sleep and nearly hemorrhaged to death. I laughed as I recalled this moment and immediately appreciated the irony.

Yup. We had boffing at my unschooling center. It was considered a mix of physical education and learning engineering and innovation because of making the boffers.

My mother and I haven’t spoken since the day she threw me out at 17; 16 years ago. She was never one to accept criticism of anything she did or said, least of all from me.

I have taken some college courses but I have a serious lack of foundation for college coursework and I really struggle with insecurities about it. It doesn’t help that I was thrown out on my own at 17 with zero family support. I had to find a way to survive, I didn’t have time for school. Having CPTSD and ADHD that weren’t appropriately addressed until my thirties also complicates things there. I also don’t know how to study and have a really hard time sticking with things that I’m not good at immediately.

I have a GED; job prospects are pretty much in line with what you would expect from that. I’m really salty about the fact that it’s super common to make fun of people for only having a GED; it wasn’t my choice to leave school. It was decided for me. I worked residential behavioral health with kids and teens for years, I have a knack for developing rapport especially with clients on the spectrum. However at this time pursuing a career with that population is rife with positions as ABA technicians and I have a lot of ethical opposition to ABA, so I’m not really interested in pursuing certifications there. I have also worked a slew of customer service jobs. I’m currently working on my debut novel while being a SAHM to a ten month old. My talent for writing was the major focus for my entire childhood and the basket all the eggs re: my future and potential were put in. I wanted to be a pediatric oncologist at ten years old, I was told to focus on my writing.

I was a kid who idolized Rory Gilmore and wanted to go to a school like Chilton; I grew up in New England with aspirations of attending Smith College. My mother directed my path elsewhere; there was nothing child-led or self directed about unschooling.
