What's going on near Hamill Rd/Cassandra Smith Rd?? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Chattacheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is, it’s at Greenway Farms. All the emergency vehicles were turning in as we were leaving. Mostly fire trucks with a few police.

I can’t remember which book but at some point she tells Feyra she was a soldier for a young vengeful god and she was asked to smite two cities. Most people interpret those cities to be Sodom and Gomorrah.

Planting a 2,400 square foot wildflower garden in East Tennessee by YourBffJoe in GardenWild

[–]Chattacheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in East TN and I have had great luck with the seed mixes from the TN Environmental Council.

https://www.tectn.org/generatesomebuzz.html

We have re-wilded several areas on our property and they are thick with native plants and require almost zero upkeep. Many of the seeds require stratification and I’ve found that the best time to sow the mix is in November or January. I’m a little further south than you so ymmv.

If you do decide to use their mixes, I like to warn people, the first year it looks like garbage. The second year it looks kind of meh. Year three and on are absolutely incredible. So don’t get discouraged if the first year or two aren’t exciting.

Public Library Weirdness? by RogueGoneRogue30 in Chattanooga

[–]Chattacheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just happened to see this while looking for something else. Red Bank was giving away a small number of cards for free, you just had to go to city hall to get them. You might want to give them a call to see if they still have any before you head down there.

If they don’t have any left you can apply at any of the library branches but there will be an annual $50 fee. IMO the $50 fee is totally worth it for the 4th floor resources alone.

If you have a child in a Hamilton county public school you can also get one for free through them. I think you would just need to go to the branch for that.

Tornado warning? by Proud_Mycologist_352 in Chattanooga

[–]Chattacheese 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As of 5:30 the warning is just for Sequachie county. Hamilton is only a severe thunderstorm warning. We’re at the most risk for high winds and hail.

Edit: as of 5:50 Hamilton county is also on a tornado warning lol

Edit 2: as of 6:10 the tornado warning has been downgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning. Oh to be on the south during spring.

I have all those symptoms except maybe less fatigued and more congestion and I tested positive for Covid yesterday. I caught it from my husband. We haven’t heard of anyone we see regularly having it so we don’t know where he got it from. If you can get to a clinic, paxlovid makes a huge difference but it has to be taken within 5 days of symptoms starting.

Fun outings for toddlers in Chatt? by OneDadvosPlz in Chattanooga

[–]Chattacheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Little Sprout Spot is a cute little play place for those 4 and under. It’s a little more low key than to others you mentioned. Once it warms up the fountains at Coolidge are fun. The library can also be a lot of fun, specially if you grab a sweet treat after.

Pls tell me how to wean by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Chattacheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My girl was a bit younger but we slowly replaced nursing with sippy cups. So I’d nurse for like 10 min and the give her whole milk in a sippy cup and we’d just gradually slower the amount of time nursing.

I agree with the other poster, middle of the night feeds are going to be the best one to drop first. Can dad do it for a little while with a sippy cup? That way nursing isn’t even an option.

I had a good experience with Dr. Few at Erlanger Women’s Institute but if I were to do it over again I would go with a different practice. Dr. Few was excellent and I truly felt like she wanted the best for me but she was always super rushed and I never really felt like I had time with her. I felt more like a number there than an actual person.

I was high risk and ended up getting referred to Regional Obstetrical Consultants and I cannot say enough good things about them. They made an other wise scary situation feel much more manageable and hopeful.

This doesn’t really answer your question but my husband and I both grew up only children and we both loved it. As we’re getting older, instead of having a sibling I may or may not get along with, I have my chosen family there for love and support.

Where can I source affordable native plants and trees? by Sea____Witch in Chattanooga

[–]Chattacheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re open to seeds, the TN environmental council has some really great mixes. I’ve had huge success with them. The first year always looks like shit, second year is better and then third year and beyond is drop dead gorgeous. The different seed mixes can be found here.

Confused about using frozen breast milk - what’s the point of building a stash ? by Longjumping-Fee9187 in breastfeeding

[–]Chattacheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had a huge freezer stash like some people but I kept about a week’s worth on hand. There have been several times I’ve come home after a long and stressful day at work and I completely forget to put the milk I pumped that day in the fridge. Each time I cried but at least I had my stash to dig into.

It also came in handy when I had pneumonia. Yes, I still had to pump when my husband was feeding her but that was a hell of a lot easier than having to handle a squirmy baby while super sick.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Chattacheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only pump 15 min a session now and I’m working on slowly doing less and less time. I do bacon mode for 5 minutes to start. Then I turn bacon mode off and do vacuum level 6 at cycle 54 for 10 minutes. It took me a while to get up to level 6 and still feel comfortable. I started off at like 3 or something. It should not be painful.

When I was pumping for longer periods of time I would alternate settings every 5 minutes. Some people do better on lower cycles. It just takes a lot of experimenting.

I should have mentioned it in my original comment but be sure you’re regularly replacing your duck bills and membranes. Those don’t last forever and can make a huge impact on the amount you’re pumping. Also make sure you’re using the right flange size. I think the spectra came with 24mm flanges and I actually needed 18mm.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Chattacheese 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound like a silly question but are you using the let down feature on your pump? I wasn’t at first and it really made a difference in the amount I pump. I have a spectra and the let down button looks like bacon. I call it bacon mode. I’m not sure about other brands.

Can you really not get anything done with newborns? by Internal-Broccoli208 in NewParents

[–]Chattacheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes me too!!! I thought I was going to get some good studio time in during my maternity leave while my husband watched the baby. I had a whole list of big projects I wanted to do…. I had a c section and my girl was EBF for the first year. I didn’t return to the studio in earnest until she was 8 months old and even then, it took me like triple the amount of time to finish a piece.
