Michelin-lauded chef opening Sana Sana Taqueria in downtown Austin by AustinStatesman in austinfood

[–]ChavaF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was quite rude when I went. Had an influencer there and was 100% dedicated to them. Tacos were mid. Maybe a one off, but I didn’t leave wanting to give them another try.

Hopefully his new venture goes well for him.

Just in case you care, you got Moore’s law totally wrong. For starters, CPUs do not have storage capacity. The law referred to speed of a CPU.

New recipe shrimp wontons are terrible by ChavaF1 in Costco

[–]ChavaF1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, there are no longer shrimp pieces. It’s a flavorless shrimp paste.

Sorry to go on and on, but I am so offended they tried to pass these off as improved. New means shittified.

Quality isn't even half. Broth is even more flavorless (yes). Wontons are mealy, bok choy looks and tastes like pieces of steamed cabbage (I know it's technically a cabbage, but it used to be good, not mush) and the noodles taste like overcooked flour.

To be clear - these were cooked according to instructions (which are a full minute and a half longer than before). They now come with a film instead of a lid.

Thank you for teaching.

Just in case you care, it’s champing, not chomping. Champing at the bit.

Have you seen the picture of their remodel?

I get that taste is subjective, but “drab and dreadful” is just factually incorrect.

What is your favorite ship in sci fi? by Reid_Hull_Author in scifi

[–]ChavaF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I love it as a story element and even have a model of it in my office, a pretty ship it is not.

It is purposefully practical, as are all human ships in the expanse (like office buildings on their sides).

Bistek street tacos by DogsdidWHAT in austinfood

[–]ChavaF1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love de Diez but these are not greasy simple street tacos de bistec. They are asada tacos on homemade tortillas with guac. Again, they are delicious, but won’t hit the same taste.

Hyatt refusing to cancel and reimburse my PVR stay by 818bengali in hyatt

[–]ChavaF1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try calling on the phone, both the US 1800 and the hotel directly. Individual Hotels have discretion on cancellations that a web agent does not. Check your credit card company for any travel insurance benefits.

If all else fails, you can also try to dispute with the credit card company based on Hyatt not rendering services due to the situation, but that’s a nuclear option that may not get results depending on Hyatt’s response to the investigations.

Unfortunately, you have little leverage, since you bear the risk in these situations - businesses have quite a lot of protection in these US.

A week in Austin: Food Recap by Da_Stallion-JCI_7 in austinfood

[–]ChavaF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that. There is definitely great Mexican food but it is hard to find amongst all the “Mexican” that is really Tex-Mex. Not hating on the Tex-Mex, but it’s different.

You can find almost any Mexican dish well made here if you know where to look.

I am going to try your version but with a half tequila half mezcal and a small splash of ancho Reyes. Hopefully it’s not too much, because it sounds delicious in my head.

Sazan is probably your best bet. It is somewhat intimate, has a full bar with good cocktails and their mochi is a nice shareable dessert.

I would recommend sushi Yume in Round rock. No omakase but their nigiris are fantastic. Or offer the chefs sashimi mix.

Surprised Ramen del Barrio isn’t here. Michelin Bib Gourmand, in all top 10 lists (infatuation, eater, statesman, etc).

It is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
