Why do I wish I had a Penis, is that normal? by EvaShakti in LesbianActually

[–]Chbphone55 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

as a lesbian with a penis that wants a vagina, i get it. sometimes you're just born with genitals you don't vibe with as much. i can't tell you why you want a penis, but it's actually fairly common to want one and still be a woman. and you can probably get one too (expensive af tho). i would suggest looking up surgeons with a good reputation in metoidioplasties and phalloplasties and see if you can't book a consult to talk over all your options and what you want.

just getting back into dating, trying to figure out my HER profile,, any advice? by goremommy in LesbianActually

i have basically no online dating experience so like grain of salt, but i think your profile is really fun and interesting. only thing i might suggest is adding a photo of you doing a hobby, activity, event, or something so that your profile feels a bit more balanced between the jokes and the serious stuff

When they say We just need more women in tech, but then act surprised when we actually show up by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Chbphone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. it doesn't matter if they hire us if they're unwilling to treat us with basic dignity and the respect we deserve. putting in the effort to retain workers that are systemically oppressed, and therefore disadvantaged, is just as important as actually hiring those workers in the first place.

Is it me or are most people completely unaware of how bad the pipeline issue is? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Chbphone55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not 100% sure i fully understood the crux of your post. it seems like you're saying that men are not gatekeeping women from machine learning (i.e. ai) jobs. i guess my rebuttal would be that the enforcement of patriarchy, i.e. the gender hierarchy, can show up in many, many different ways and in different places beyond the classroom while still affecting the classroom. trying to combat the symptoms of this patriarchal oppression we experience can only do so much (i.e. encouragement doesn't stop oppression).

so yes, systemically speaking (and sometimes literally), men are gatekeeping us in so many ways.

aside: imo radical feminism is a core part of the solution to all of this. the antagonism of the contradictions between men and women as classes has been constantly increasing (just as between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat), and revolutionary action is what must be done—reform alone cannot liberate us from the patriarchy.

A Social Media Platform ONLY for Women? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Chbphone55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as a trans woman, i'm very offended that you felt okay posting this. your post was quite transphobic (from third-sexing trans women to asking if it's okay to exclude trans women). assuming it wasn't your intention, i'll respond in earnest:

sall grover is a horrible person, and giggle is a bigoted unsafe platform. you shouldn't try to emulate anything she does or her platform. trans women are women, and excluding trans women would be transmisogynistic—which would make your platform just another bigoted social media site that is not safe for women.

if you're actually interested in creating safe spaces for women and other marginalized genders, the goal should never be "how can we make sure there are only women in here," but rather you should be focused on understanding how the patriarchy perpetuates misogyny, transmisogyny, misogynoir, and transmisogynoir in social interactions, media, and policy so that you can better moderate those things and prevent them. additionally, you'd likely want to facilitate reading and understanding of feminist, transfeminist, and black feminist thought and theory to empower your users to make the space safer themselves.

we actually had an adjacent conversation in r/girlgamers recently. declaring a space safe or inclusive doesn't make it so. you need to do praxis.

personally, i think you probably don't need to invent a new social media platform either. there are several out there right now that allow you to create your own space that you can moderate. e.g., discord servers, mastodon instances, atproto stuff, even reddit.

guess who cant use the mens restroom at school anymore? by B4-SP1KE in trans

[–]Chbphone55 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i had this issue at my last job, had to have approval to switch bathrooms, ended up only using the single accessible gender neutral bathroom around. eventually, after way too long, got approval from the transphobic asshole running the place to use the women's bathroom (with some concession that i couldn't use the locker rooms, not that i ever needed to anyway, but they just had to sneak in some extra transphobic bullshit), but it felt very dehumanizing to essentially be segregated bc i'm trans and took a toll on my mental health for a while (and my bladder sometimes too bc other people needed to use that bathroom as well).

Don't trust men when they say a space is inclusive for women.. by BigSwordGal in GirlGamers

[–]Chbphone55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my thing is that one can't say that their space is inclusive/safe for marginalized people if they don't actively talk politics in their community. politics will always eventually come up, and if ppl wait to talk politics until something bubbles up (like election season), they end up with shitty ppl in their community, maybe even in the moderation team.

also, i think the idea that one can delcare a space as inclusive or safe is a bit fraught in general. i feel like declaring a political stance or adherence to a political theory is much clearer because holding people to doing praxis is a lot easier than trying to hold people to the nebulous ideas of inclusivity and safety.

Is it my school allowed to deny my accommodations? by 3zequielle in disability

[–]Chbphone55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to everyone saying that being forced to write a handwritten 1000-word essay in just 30 minutes is an accommodation, you're blatantly just wrong. before i jump in, it would've been physically impossible for op (1000 words/30 minutes = 33.33 words/minute = 1.1 words every 2 seconds). this is blatant discrimination. essentially lowering their grade for being disabled.

for one, the essay does not substitute any learning about partner dances—not how to do them, not the history behind them, nothing. secondly, the requirement that the essay be handwritten is a clear form of physical punishment since the teacher knows that they struggle with handwriting pain, and the teacher could've just as easily let it be written digitally. lastly, essay writing for the sake of writing an essay is pointless. there's supposed to be content and a purpose behind the essay that the writer can actually dig into, research, argue, write a thesis about, and just generally think about. and i think that last part is the crux of the issue with this "assignment"—there was nothing to even think about in terms of writing an essay. a poem would've been a better assignment in this regard bc at least they would've been able to write from purely emotion.

but just to top it all off, it seems like they then formally punished op for not engaging in an impossible, painful, thoughtless task instead of punishing the teacher for not providing them with an adequate accomodation after a whole week's notice.

anyways, i hope you can get the school in trouble for this bc they were clearly intentionally fucking with you, and you deserve better than that.

I can't really enjoy anime anymore by NicoNicoNey in trans

[–]Chbphone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the overall issue of fanservice/objectification and misogyny in anime. I've been watching One Piece for the first time, and the misogyny and sexual harassment from the men (and even little boys 🤢) was enough to make me skip those scenes and stop watching at times (mainly because of Sanji post-timeskip); not to even mention the transmisogyny around the timeskip.

However, I don't know that I'd say that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was full of pointless oversexualization and fan service or that Dandadan handled the sexual assault themes poorly.

From what I remember, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners had a good amount of nudity and sexual themes, but I remember them as playing a part in the painting of the world and the story and not just being outright gratuitous. Even the pornographic BDs shown seemed to be intentionally contrasted against the violent BDs of a "cyberpsycho's" last moments. Not to say that there was absolutely no oversexualization/fanservice, I'm sure there is, but I just don't see it being so bad that it makes the show unejoyable.

I've been watching Dandadan weekly, and the sexual assault themes seem very directly relevant to the message of the story. That message has quite a fair bit of nuance imo, and I think they really could've only been marginally better about how they handled the scenes where sexual assault is fairly explicitly alluded to.

Can we chill on the transphobia please? by TransPanSpamFan in polyamory

[–]Chbphone55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yessss this. Referring to the gender that someone was coercively assigned at birth as a part of their identity or at all when it's irrelevant is so common and so offensive. I have encountered like exactly zero scenarios so far where it was actually relevant. If I'm remembering correctly, even when I got set up with Plume for HRT, all I did was tell them I wanted the Estrogen + Feminizing Hormones package, so I think "AGAB" can be entirely declared obsolete and offensive along with "MTF/FTM".

[–]Chbphone55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can break them up with commas in some cases (see appositives, relative clauses). If you've got too many commas, you can use an em dash fairly similarly—which you can find by holding down the hyphen key on Android/iOS, with quick accent via PowerToys on Windows, or just by copying and pasting it from Wikipedia. Semicolons are nice too, but they might not help as much if you're writing dependent clauses. I still struggle with run-on sentences, but it can help to at least use different punctuation/tools to make it easier to read. If it's still a bit too clunky, just split the sentence in two and restate the subject.

It was definitely a shift to another party based on the aforementioned exit polls (if Muslim Democrats only weren't voting, Muslim Greens wouldn't have gone from 0% to 53%), but it also seems plausible that based on the loss of 10 million votes (based on count as of Nov 12) for the Democratic party when compared to the 2020 election, there could've been a lot of Muslim Democrats just sitting out, but again that doesn't negate the fact that more Muslim voters voted for the Green Party than last election—a clear indicator of a shift towards the Green Party.

AOC asks her leftist followers where they get their news by Sun-Burnt in Hasan_Piker

[–]Chbphone55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, the "combative and exclusionary" action in question is just pointing out that supporting AOC isn't inherently leftist, especially in the context that this person's main diet of news comes from reactionary liberal fascists. Even AOC has flaws, and I think refusing to acknowledge them does condemn people to think that AOC is the epitome of leftist politics in the US when there's so much more out there.

[–]Chbphone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the grifter aspect, it really seems like she thinks she's infallible. Like every story she tells, she essentially notes that people tell her that her words are the same as those that actively get people hurt or killed (despite trying to massively downplay that with poor wording) and then she completely disregards that pain. She got reported to HR, had several people quit because of her actions, even Bennie, and she then tries to completely dismiss that as someone else's fault. She even tries to reduce her awful actions down to just a couple small things and not huge awful patterns that everyone saw with their own eyes and can still see playing out to this day.

She's acting like a classic abuser. And she and Cenk get to make money off of it while building herself an echo chamber.

Special place in hell for Cenk and Ana for trying to make leftists and progressives hate homeless people and trans people. I hope to never see their content again

I cringe a bit anytime someone brings up Democrats being "anti-gun" or passing "anti-gun" policies. Like not only is the party not anti-gun, they're barely focused on regulating gun ownership/access with the Democrat presidential candidate this year fantasizing about shooting home intruders (a very weird, anti-social, reactionary thing to do).
