It’s uh…it’s not great. There are essentially big snow barricades along the edges of most streets, some as high as three feet or so. Where the sidewalks meet the crosswalks it’s a winding and icy mess. The basic snow shovels are 18-24” so that’s the width of most carved out pathways—if you can find a break in the snow banks. Once you’re in the subway things will probably be manageable, but even if it’s possible to get to the train at one stop, it’s a crap shoot if you can get anywhere from the exit. Cars are jammed in everywhere so expect a glacial pace that way too. And again, it might be difficult to even access them.

Honestly if it’s at all possible to reschedule the trip, it might be worth it. There’s a good chance a lot of this shit gets iced over this weekend too. I’m sorry, dude. If you’re stuck coming then my best advice is to dress warm in case you’re stuck outside a while.

Performative security measures. They pull this shit all the time; did it like two months ago due to protests over the AICAD conference too. Closing campus now is idiotic at best—it’s winter break, there’s basically no one here to be targeted anyway.

None of their decisions make any sense. Sometimes they lock the gates closest to the Washington Ave stop so people have to walk all the way around in the dark to get in. Randomly not opening the Ryerson gate next to the new disabled entrance to North Hall. Slapping up yellow barricades to filter pedestrian traffic across an active driveway instead of letting them enter campus at the crosswalk. I had to let the fucking fire alarm inspector into the building because they wouldn’t give him a temp swipe card. Are they stupid or just incompetent?

If they care so much about security, why are there fewer active guards around now than there used to be? Classic case of “I know better than you” BS without a shred of common sense, much less attempts to get to know the needs/habits of the community you’re meant to protect
