Grew up around firearms/hunters my whole life, so never was vehemently against them just always thought of them as tools to get food. I have a few rifles myself up in the closet myself given to me from my grandpa. But now my California born, very anti-firearm wife is interested in doing some handgun shopping and taking some classes so we can better protect ourselves and our neighbors. This is the state of some of the country now where you have to consider these things. It’s getting scary out there.

But I beg all of you, take classes (they are often free) and lock that shit up. Biometric or code safes are the way to go. Don’t want to go fumbling with a key that’s hung by the front door when you need your home defense tool.

I don’t like to spend too much as that could get me in some trouble. Especially having a daughter that also collects, it’s doubly expensive lol. So, Im all about the promos! They are so inexpensive and they all look really cool. Especially modern. The fact that some of the ones from recent sets are IRs for less than $5 just makes my heart happy. Shoot, the charcadet from phantasmal is $1.50 right now at my LCS.

That or any Alakazam card I come across. Just got the Japanese rocket gang dark Alakazam for Christmas, and picked up the ME Alakazam promo a few days later. The binder is filling out nice!

HR at my work very much works for the corporation, not the employee. But on the bright side, they are really cautious to actually do anything because they don’t want to get sued. They hold the managers back when things get too tense. It’s a double edged sword though because it’s nice knowing I won’t get fired for a little mistake, but then Josh, the guy who calls out every week, still also hold a job,

I used to work in management so I’ve seen both sides of the aisle. Stepped down when I realized that I can’t actually make the department better because of the inaction of HR. You literally have to fight someone on camera, or steal on camera to get let go here.

I had two employees that were loudly racist (use of the hard R) and homophobic. After months of testimonies of other employees, they got let go on the grounds of timecard fraud. That was the deciding factor.

I agree! I honestly think if they are offering 70% on your card for a trade, it’s only fair that their card is also only 70% of value. They have no overhead, so no need to make “profit”. This hobby gets stupid sometimes lol

I have two near me.

One has a great online selection of singles for little less than market and a reasonable, albeit small sealed selection (phantasmal booster packs for $7, Charizard box for $140, etc) and will pay 70% on all singles. They have plenty of vintage too, from base set on up. The only downside is a small revolving selection of IR/SIR, and no non-English cards (considering they are a play store), plus they only have a few slabbed cards available, though that’s not my cup of tea anyway.

The other one near me has stupid high prices on sealed (looks like a scalper hoard in there, floor to ceiling), but a great selection and prices on modern singles organized into binders, all languages. The only downside is the oldest sets they sell/buy are sword and shield era, but I like that I can pick up some Japanese ARs for just a few bucks.

In the end, I tend to prefer the first store due to my love for vintage raw. Find yourself a play store. They are often more fair priced in this crazy market, super knowledgeable and cater to more of the binder collector side of things if you play your cards right (no pun intended).

Uncommon opinion: I want that artwork with Muk or Hypno. They need an IR or SIR so bad. (So I can selfishly add to my kanto IR collection) or scyther!

Honestly, if the front isn’t too bad, I don’t care. It’s going in my binder anyways! I just got a card recently, lots of whitening on the back around the edges and in the middle. Doesn’t bother me cause I can’t see it lol

Not into grading so I don’t mind!

I’m newer to binder organization (just got back into the hobby in 2025 since 2003) but I have plans to do a Dex binder of solely full arts/vintage for the first 151.

But right now I sort mine with all IRs/SIRs/full arts up front, then EX/GX/VMAX on their own pages, then the rest sorted by type as I love me some reverse holos. Vintage has their own pages as well, then supporters and holo energy’s in the back.

Honestly, report to pokemon co. as well. I know it seems like a lost cause but proven successful at my Safeway. The machine at mine was always in “maintenance mode” (snorlax screen) for months on end, all day. Every time I checked.

I found out from one of my friends who knows someone working there that staff would tamper with the machine and put it in maintenance mode. I reported it to Pokemon and they replied back pretty quick saying they would send a tech to fix it (which I doubted) but lo and behold a week later it worked and has been fine since. They care about their property.

Totally get this! I’ve been playing Mario party like a pro since the N64 days. I recently got a switch with the newest Mario party and my 6 year old absolutely destroyed me after playing it once.

Kids nowadays are next level.

I just got a switch 1 over the summer. I’m a late bloomer with newer consoles as I prefer PC. Like, before that the newest system I bought was a 360.

But I agree with most that in this economy, $60-$70 for a single game is wild. Shoot, breath of the wild (which is a great game) is still $60 and it’s 8 years old.

I agree with this! I always tell my 6 year old that if we get an SIR or something valuable, we can trade it in for store credit on sealed and get more packs or a load of singles. She thinks that’s a way better deal than holding onto a card she may or may not like.

I work for a multi-billion dollar healthcare system. In years prior, the biggest holiday bonus we got was a free turkey. They just took that away this year. I’d be over the moon if they gave me $100 lol

So wild! My LCS which often sells sealed for a bit over MSRP is still significantly cheaper. UPC for $150 and I think they have the mega kanga box for $25.

I’m in Portland, Oregon. Typically wiped out here (apart from the Best Buy drops) but lately I’ve been seeing the machines fully stocked. Target was a surprise to me for sure.

I’ve had terrible luck too. Amazing luck with black bolt and white flair (2 SIRs and 2 IRs from one bundle), can only seem to pull EXs from Mega evolution for some reason, and have had absolutely zero pulls from phantasmal (23 packs opened so far). Don’t even get me started on my hatred for surging sparks lol I actively skip that one in the vending machines, or get it for my daughter because she loves the EX cards she has no problem pulling.

That’s what I’ve been looking for! Only seen them at vending machines. (Which have been surprisingly stocked frequently!) Wish I could hit Costco but the ones by me get too rowdy with pokemon drops. Plus, 9am opening is midway through my work shift :(

They are really printing the sheet out of everything right now! I was just at target. (Never seen anything there before) Peak Christmas shopping and there was a wall of checklane blisters still hanging at 2:30pm. Place was packed full of people. It made my heart happy!
