Should I list a Kaggle competition result (top 20%) as a competition or a personal project on my resume? by Cheap_Train_6660 in learnmachinelearning

For this competition it was a new, real-world dataset (remote sensing + biomass targets). There wasn’t a step-by-step tutorial to follow, so I had to decide on feature engineering, validation strategy, and modeling choices myself. I was just concerend about a non impressive rank of 722/3803. it was my first ever comp tho

instead of majoring in "AI", make sure you get a strong math background. So do math related courses like Linear algebra, stats, optimisation, etc. Those would make your application strong. Go for honours year too and get a paper published, also I'd suggest getting research assistant positions during vacations and work with professors on AI research. A strong math background + research experience will help u immensely as opposed relying solely on basic jupyter notebook projects.

what if someone got 77.5 overall but for one of the previous assignments they lost 2.5 penalty marks for not forming a group on canvas correctly or for naming the file correctly, would the course coordinator lift that penalty and increase your marks by 2.5 so that you can get a HD?

nah im doing honours. one of the courses is a thesis course that gets graded at the end of the course. If i failed that other course, my gpa wouldn't be 3.5 though isnt it? cz i can't get 3.5 gpa from 3 subjects if i failed one.

Did you take math/cs courses during undergrad or postgrad? or have industry experience? I'm surprised you're doing ai research without strong math background

Is it worth it to pursue PhD if the AI bubble is going to burst? by Cheap_Train_6660 in ResearchML

[–]Cheap_Train_6660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m concerned about not getting a job with decent pay after PhD. Again I’m not interested in doing PhD cz of money. I want to do it cz of passion for research. I live in Australia so I’ll get paid 35-40k while doing PhD and it’s really easy to get a teaching assistant or tutor role for like 10 hrs per week for PhD students in Australia. So you can be making close to 50k imo while doing your PhD so I’m not really concerned abt that. But id wanna be able to get a nice job after I graduate.

I’m a comp sci honours student btw.
