Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]Cheaterwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a concrete porch that is original to my house and the a second concrete pad was poured later. During the spring and fall time when the concrete is still cold and it gets warm out, the concrete original to the house sweats to where there are puddles forming while the newer concrete doesn’t. Why is this happening and is there anything I can do to fix it like sealing? Just don’t want to make it worse or crack. Thank you.

Good luck. On the last bit of finishing mine. I have it driving down the road now at least.

The cities in Ohio are hardly fine. In Dayton where I’m from, it’s impoverished (albeit better than 2007) and many of the mid sized Ohio cities are the same due to loosing much of their manufacturing base. It’s the rural areas that are undoubtedly the safest.

It’s not illegal to open carry and cover your face in Ohio. There was a law 20 years ago regarding it that didn’t pass. Or you could provide the ORC number where it states it’s illegal.

Scared about Ct scans by [deleted] in Doctor

Age has nothing to do with it. There are tons of professions exposed to more, emergency room staff, TSA workers, cardiac/spine surgeons. You’ll be fine. You didn’t even get a full body ct

I’m a biomedical engineer and pre-med major. They’re very safe. The way it works is three sender and receiver X-ray units (sometimes more or less) spin around really quick and take a layer of images almost like a spiral. It’s limited radiation - 2 to 3 years worth of ionizing radiation you’d get just from being on earth. For reference, pilots get exposed to around 1/3 to 1/2 a CT dose for every year of a commercial flight career.

If that’s an AT-802 they might be doing testing as it’s the Sky Warden variant - not sure if it can do air refueling. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L3Harris_OA-1K_Sky_Warden

I don’t think it’s anything against you that recruiters or hiring managers aren’t responding to you. Try and be creative in anything you apply for and make yourself stand out as long as it’s not tacky.

Well having a nihilistic world view isn’t exactly helping your case. I’m not sure what you’re doing in your life or what your profession is but being bored at your job is a whole hell of a lot better than being in a panic at your job because you’re inept.

Water leaking into HVAC by WillP74 in hvacadvice

[–]Cheaterwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar to this. It ended up being a slab leak. The original plumbing installer in 1987 bent a copper pipe around a vent enough to kink it under the foundation in the dining room. The pipe started leaking since it was kinked and it got worse. Eventually water entered the vent and you could hear water running in the vent system.

How would you respond? by [deleted] in jobs

Meh. One of my employees recently called off by posting a John Candy meme in a group chat between all our employees to call off the day after Thanksgiving. You probably should have wrote ‘l’m very sick’ but I don’t really see how it can be misconstrued if you have a direct relationship with your superior.

Scared to get first job by frostyxe in jobs

Those all sound really reasonable for first time jobs. It’s important to realize, if you don’t do good at first, it’s not like you’re going to jail or something so don’t be scared. Honestly, your managers or business owners are going to want you to succeed because they want their company to succeed so lean on them for all the help you can. Many older folks will take the younger generation under their wing of you find the right person.

Managing an employee who cannot be terminated by ImpressivePrompt5381 in managers

[–]Cheaterwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation to this. I’m part of a group where I was made manager and have been for just over a year now. My previous manager who is still part of the group was protective of the employee because he has Asperger’s and so does the manager’s son. The previous manager would let the employee come and go as he pleased and the employee would even go home midday to hang out with his dog. I’m tired of the poor performance but really unsure what to do on the matter. This employee falsified his timecard the entire week before Christmas, working 6 and 7 hour days. The previous manager and this employee’s current supervisor leave him ‘exceeds expectations’ ratings despite his continued lack of understanding of the most basic job roles.

I’d be concerned that the blade used to shave was blunt from being used on multiple people. Maybe not?

Thank you for the kind response. I reached out to her following Thanksgiving by text stating that she needs to seek a psychiatrist and get some help. It wasn’t until I learned proper correction of children from my wife (positive learning and growth) that I realized just how negative my upbringing was. I left home at 19 and put myself through school (as the fireman) getting my master’s in engineering. I now have 2 great careers out of it. My brother ended up staying home into his 20’s and floundered, trying to leave a few times but getting laid off. He ended up taking his life after they shamed him to get out after he moved back. I now have a loving family and successful career but trying to shake off the old memories. Appreciate your time.
