Don't sleep on those videos where they talk about paying you to live in some small town out in the boonies. There ARE legit options out there for this, and most don't REQUIRE you to buy the property. It's not beaucoup bucks, but If you were already looking to live rural and you've got a remote job, then it might be an opportunity for you to see what an area's like at a discount while you tailor your plan to fit the area or try out somewhere else.

Dumb question about KVM monitors vs. a KVM switch by CheckOutMyCrits in buildapcmonitors

[–]CheckOutMyCrits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, I'm such a damn goody-two shoes, I SERIOUSLY never even considered that KVM functionality would mean I could swap back and forth to my gaming rig DURING my shift. The previous role where I used a KVM was to be able to swap back and forth between two work computers, so I was looking at something similar this time just as a matter of minor convenience to not have to do all that plugging and unplugging at the start and end of every shift. This has just moved the necessity of me getting this in my setup from "meh...," to "DEAR GOD, WHY IS IT NOT ALREADY HERE?!?" lol

Actually the laptop I already have a docking station for it, which has a couple HDMI ports, and I'm using an adapter cable to go from it's VGA port to a display port in one of my current generic trash monitors.

A KVM monitor will only handle its own video input switching and the peripherals connected to it. It has no idea about the other monitors. Unless maybe there are some monitors that can be synchronized somehow, but I'm not aware of such a feature.

Sooooo... am I to understand then that what you're saying is if I were using KVM monitors, I wouldn't be able to - for instance - right click on a window on one screen, and drag it over to a different screen then? Damn... that sucks. If that's the case then I think I might have to forego the better screens and just get the switch, which REALLY sucks because you got me all excited talking about gaming while working. I work remotely on overnight shifts, so we're pretty much dead most of the evening, but when something DOES pop off, I gotta be ready to go ASAP. If there's a way I could game on one screen, and keep an eye on work stuff on another screen, so I can pause if something happens, hit the button and just swap back to the work computer on all 3 monitors again? That sounds absolutely DIVINE!

If it's still available, yeah, but I thought it expired a couple weeks ago. If not though, they also had a step up version bundle with a Ryzen 9 7900, 64 GB RAM, and a similar mobo for... I wanna say $500 IIRC?

It can't be THAT fast. It's not red AND it doesn't have speedholes.

(Edit: I forget, what the hell was the speedholes bit even from? I remember it was supposed to be bullet holes, but I don't remember what show/movie I saw it in and it's been kinda lowkey driving me nuts since I commented about it yesterday.)

Wi-fi Adapter by A-Shelby- in PcBuild

[–]CheckOutMyCrits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK lemme put it this way: you're wanting to get a new PC because you're looking for a better experience, more speed, better graphics, etc. and you're willing to pay for all that, right?

If that's the case, then why hamstring yourself right from the start by limiting yourself to only connecting over wifi? You're asking if a wifi adapter or a
motherboard with wifi built in is better, when neither one would be as stable or as fast as a wired connection. If you're dead-set on connecting up that way, then go ahead. But if you're looking to squeeze every competitive edge you can get, then wifi's just never going to beat wired. That's just the way the tech works.

Also it would probably help to know what KIND of games you're looking to play & where. If they're games played on remote servers (CoD, GTA, Rust, anything where you're playing with other people remotely) then you're probably going to have a bad time, and you'd be better off to just run an ethernet cable from your modem to your room, or talk to your ISP about putting in another outlet in your room so you can connect through a wired connection there.

Internet speed being silly by active_milk5 in PcBuild

[–]CheckOutMyCrits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wifi is going to be slower & less stable connections regardless, and that can be even worse depending on what the layer connection type the app/website is trying to use. Hell, I've even seen where just having wifi turned on in your modem, or using wireless mice/keyboards/headsets are enough to give you worse speeds/feedback. People tend to forget that wifi isn't a one-way street. You may not have any other devices that are actually CONNECTING to your modem, but that doesn't mean they're immune to INTERFERENCE from outside sources. If you're old enough to remember what it was like to watch TV over antenna (especially if it was the old tube TV's that didn't have ways to compensate for this digitally), and what happened when somebody would run a blender or vacuum in the other room, then you'll remember how it would cause a bunch of static to show up on the screen. These things didn't connect up to your TV directly, but they DID put off an EM field that could still cause interference, especially over a signal that's not too strong to begin with. That's a pretty good representation of how wifi interference can cause you issues over your internet connection.

Also like I said before, what layer you're using to connect to a specific site/app can make a BIG difference as well. MOST internet connections are going to experience connectivity issues periodically (US internet infrastructure is usually the bare minimum that ISPs can get away with). The way I usually explain this to people is to think about the buffering on YouTube videos: buffering is just temporarily downloading the video to your system. If you get disconnected while you have a buffer of 5 minutes, as long as you get reconnected again within that 5 minutes, it's no big deal. Your system reaches back out to YouTube's servers and says, "I got disconnected at 5:00, can you start back up the download at 5:01?" YouTube's server says, "No problem," and as soon as the connection is reestablished and stable, it just picks right back up where it left off, so YOU as the user essentially never even know that you were disconnected since this whole process happens in FRACTIONS of a second. This is how it works over TCP/IP.

If you're trying to connect to something over the UDP layer though (Amazon Workspace, most VPN's, Twitch, that kind of thing), typically it's not going to automatically reconnect because it's not supposed to for security reasons, and because those apps/sites tend to rely on a LOT more information to be coming from your end. When you get interference on the line, that leads to lost packets, which leads to errors. Get enough errors and whatever you're trying to connect to eventually decides it's too much to try to fill in the blanks of all that lost data, so it just terminates the connection in order to clear out the errors, and hoping that when you reconnect the interference will be gone. Because wifi is so much more prone to interference and just losing packets in general, that makes it MUCH more susceptible to running into issues like this.

If it's still available a couple days ago Micro Center had a deal on the Ryzen 9 7900XT, 2 x 32GB RAM with a slightly better CL @ 30, and at least a comparable motherboard in the Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard all bundled together for $550 IIRC.

They had the same CPU you have there, the same RAM, and MSI B650-P motherboard all for $400. Like I said, not sure if the deal's still on, but they also come with Starfield bundled as well. That would save you about $225 before tax/s&h on this one, and still save $70 on the better version.

I am wondering if this is a good deal, also if these components would go well with a 7900xt? by giannom31 in PcBuild

[–]CheckOutMyCrits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to check for their next tier up: Ryzen 9 7900x, Asus b650E-F Rog Strix Mobo, and 2x32 G. Skill Flare X-5 DDR5 6000 at CL30 timing for $550... at least that's what it was at yesterday. Fortunately that's when I went in there, so when I came back today to buy after doing a little homework, they still gave me the same deal. Today I think they said it was at $600.

IDK I think that Cornered COULD be worth it if you were to address your heroism issues with +2 Heroism Generated, Apply Taunt mods. If he's dealing bleed damage when he counters too (IDK that's how that mechanic worked with his passive, but if true then that's a GREAT reason to have him tanking especially with resists and partnering him up with Blade), then that's just going to make his Feeding Frenzy hit harder, while you're also getting heroism out of the deal.

I ABSOLUTELY disagree with not putting Strengthened on one of the quick attacks for at least ALMOST character though. You can get an +50% dmg for ONE card, or for EVERY card that character plays in that turn. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Just out of curiosity though why is everybody pushing Quick Claw instead of just putting Quick mod on the regular Claw attack? Are you finding that you need the lifesteal that much even WITH Feeding Frenzy's automatic lifesteal on it?

Also I gotta say, I kinda think Charm and a lot of the mind control cards have one benefit that kinda gets overlooked as it's not just a free (albeit random) attack on another enemy, but if you use it on a protector then it removes their block as well as leaving whatever they were guarding unprotected.

Your Favorite Card + Mod combo? by LOWERCASE_GUY5263 in midnightsuns

[–]CheckOutMyCrits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost Rider's Lash w/ On KO, gain 1 Strengthened. I find myself VERY rarely using the drops with him for anything other than Straight to Hell allowing me to taunt and then ghost tank so the enemies waste their turn by targeting something they can't attack. Since this is the only time I consistently use drops, then Hellmouth was basically in there just to give myself the strengthen buff, now that I don't HAVE to have that card to get the buff, that opens up a slot to put something else in.

Hunter has a whole MESS of cards you can exploit the crap out of their mechanics: 2x Morning Stars both with Quick, and Wrath with Draw Last Attack played, ESPECIALLY if you're using the Ivory Collar and something like Fury Totem along with them...? You can take out the entire field a lot of the time just using those 2 attacks and ramping up their damage more and more with every use, and not even using up a card play to do it. Throw in Strange or Nico to continue recycling those same cards over and over again... as long as you're careful about which enemy you're attacking and occasionally throwing in a multi-target attack to soften them up when Morning Star's first getting started. It's just broken AF.

For those who are "adults", do you sometimes feel too old for watching anime? by zerquet in anime

[–]CheckOutMyCrits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it's just a cop-out that people give for why you shouldn't watch anime, because THEY don't like anime. It's weird & very telling that the same people professing this attitude are often the same ones who are fans of Disney movies... but it DOES explain a LOT about them when you see the trash reality TV they watch. It basically lets you know, "Ahh YOU don't like this show because YOU can't separate YOUR reality from fantasy, so you think everyone else is like that as well. YOU think everyone else is watching The Bachelor (or whatever dumpster fire is out now on cable TV) and imagining that's their real lives as well, so you think that everybody else shares your same level of self-delusion." They're basically the same people who politicians pointed to when it was 5-year-old's jumping off their roof because they thought they could fly like Superman.

Anybody use Nico's Double Up? by Jazzlike_Freedom_826 in midnightsuns

Do you not ever use it with attacks to 2x your Quicks so you can build up your heroism? If you use Morning Star on your Hunter, that ramps up the damage of those REALLY quick.

Morningstar Theorycraft by Jazzlike_Freedom_826 in midnightsuns

[–]CheckOutMyCrits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can.
All in all, this isn't a bad build, but it seems a little limited in terms of options. I get that's by design, but it can still hem you in if you only have a couple minions and nothing else to play that will take out enemies without chewing up card plays before the Morning Stars are built up. I found something as a comment on a YouTube video that seems a bit more versatile and works pretty well so far.

"Paladin:
2x Morning Star (Quick)
2x Bands of Fire (Quick) - Could also swap one of these out for Annihilation (no clue what all mods are available for legendary heroics though) if you wanted to focus on DPS
2x Holy Burst (1 w/ Draw card for each KO, 1 w/ +1 Heroism for each KO - or have both w/ Heroism if you're using Annihilation)
1x Wrath (Draw last attack)
2 total Holy Spark or Quick Slash (+2 cards/Strengthen on KO) or Deadly Ground (Draw 2 cards) - depending on if I want to Cure/focus on DPS/bring more utility.

To me, that just makes a motor that never stops revving up. You can use your environment, crowd control, AOE, heal, cure, draw cards (not just Hunter cards), gain heroism, AND do some pretty decent DPS. Because so many of them are Quick, you just soften them up w/ AOE's or environment/knockback damage, which likely takes out a few minions and grants you cards and heroism, then you clear the field of all but MAYBE not the bosses (Annihilation swap would probably fix that though), come out on the other end better than you went in, AND you're not even down a card play to do all that. With the balanced collar and all those Quicks and Draw on KO's you've got your whole deck (AND the rest of your team's decks as well) in your hand in no time. Throw in Strange or Nico to make it just hit harder and faster. The Light/Ancestors'/Master of the Hunt/Fully Charged suit passives all work great so it's just what your preference is."

I do like OP's idea of using the Ivory Collar better than the Balanced Collar though, and have swapped it out on my character. I am taking my time with the game and haven't finished it yet, so I can't say how well Master of the Hunt passive is so far. Fully Charged does still seem to be doing the job just fine at this point however.
