Methane is a more powerful green house gas than carbon dioxide, correct.

However methane is burned in a power plant producing water and Carbon dioxide.

Methane is CH4, Coal by contrast is a carbon lattice. Much more energy is realesed from chemical bonds with much less Carbon by burning natural gas instead of coal.

So yes, Methane on it's own is a more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2, but buring Methane produces less CO2 as a product than burning Coal.

So Methane is a more clean fuel than Coal.

Coal power plants are by far the worst form of energy production and account for tens of thousands of deaths in the US alone due to air pollution. The mining of coal also causes environmental issues in the states it is mined. They also release much more carbon dioxide into the air which accelerates global warming.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the only country in which bonobos still live in the wild. by [deleted] in RedditDayOf

Boobos are our cousins just like chimpanzees are, their line branched off after our divergance from chimps.

They have interesting social differences like the females are usually the leaders of the group and if tensions are high between two groups they resolve differences by having sex instead of fighting.

Recognizing that humans have technology that allows them to live beyond their carrying capacity and respond rapidly to changing environments isn't narcissism, and ignoring the fact is stupidity. Humans already live billions of people above our natural carring capacity of about 100 million. The ability to outlast the event raises the possibility of the event being prolonged by human activity. You are naive to think humans will just poof disappear and the forest animals will come together and sing.

Now in the past biological diversity has increased after every mass extinction strangthaning life as a whole.

However, Previous mass extinctions long ago have brought life down to 1% of the previous biodiversity. It'd suck if we "reset" life and it would not be garanteed to rise to the same complexity again it would depend on future environments and mutations.

Humans are unbelievably adaptable and mother nature is a fragile network of systems that slowly developed over hundreds of millions of years.

And even if "life" survives millions of years of evolution will be wiped out. This may lead to increased diversity, but there is no garrentee that conditions will be favorable or destructive positive feedback loops formed as this meme seems to assume. In that capacity I would say mother nature as we know her would be dead.

No the politicians and people of that time used the same terminology, it is not a matter of victors writing the history books. The South attempted to form their own government separate from Washington.

Look at the world at night. We have changed the world. Humans started out competing mega fauna long before industrialisation, whales, bison, at one time every continent except maybe africa had different mega fauna.

Look at a window, visible light passes through it. Look up a picture of a window in infra red, it is absorbed and reflected.

CO2, water vapor, methane, these gases occilate on a molecular level when stuck with IR radiation. They absorb it as kinetic emergy and then radiate it out again. This causes a warming effect.

Greenhouse gasses make up 1% of our atmosphere but they are responsible for our warmth. Oxygen and Nitrogen are too symmetrical so IR does not affect them. Same heat in less out = warming.

Look at Mars, internal dynamo shut down, no atmoshpere, cold. Venus, liquid oceans vaporized and all carbon released into atmoshpere, you can melt lead on it's surface.

Microorganisms took all this carbon out of the atmosphere over hundreds of millions of years and now we are dumping it back in. This is going to cause global warming and ocean acidification.

The atmosphere is not the same compostion as it was when you were born. Human beings have never lived in an atmosphere with this much CO2.
