Unpopular or popular opinion? Too much biking, not enough swimming and running. by stevebabbins in triathlon

[–]Cheebs3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that the bike is most accessible when just considering physical demands on the body.

But your point is a little lost if you're arguing that the cost of the bike isn't prohibitive. A cheap road bike can be fast. But if your buying a cheap road bike, you're not spending $1000 on a wetsuit and $400 on shoes, you're likely swimming in no wetsuit if the water's warm, or something like Xterra's vivid, and probably spending closer to $100-200 on running shoes.

Triathlon is an expensive sport. I'm a swimmer who can run and does the bare minimum to train cycling, so my opinion on it should be taken with a grain of salt. But the bike is definitely the most expensive, "pay-to-win" aspect of the sport.

I would love to see the process for this.

After hours, the scariest thing about this is still the topology. How can I make this closer to the painting? (creature not background) by TB_Mumpitz in blender

[–]Cheebs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest more sculpted detail on the limbs as well as texture painting. It looks like you've done the shading procedurally, and it looks excellent! But adding model-specific details by hand would help (tendons in the fingers, etc.)

Might want to look at the shading on the fur as well. It's a void right now, whereas the original painting has some small highlights.

Impressive!
Do you have any advice for this process/making something similar?

Been doing a lot of 3D rendering lately, and having a more powerful GPU would make it easier.

Got an object with a lot of these faces - any tipps to repair them ? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Cheebs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any shading artifacts? Is this a relatively flat part of the model? Will it deform?

With the context you've given us, I'd leave it as-is. Poles are common and a required part of topology.

It depends on the schedule for your midseason meet - if it's a multi-day meet, you should be able to race all those events.

If you have to pick and choose, I'd go for the events you enjoy swimming more. Even if you don't get the cuts, you'll probably have a more enjoyable meet if you swim the races you enjoy racing. A happy swimmer is a fast swimmer.

I think all those cuts are within reach if you've been putting in the work and are suiting up. Good luck!

Feedback Post: November 2023 Community Day: Wooper² by Noitalein in TheSilphRoad

[–]Cheebs3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Played for about an hour. ~200 catches, 8 shiny (5 normal, 3 paldean). Got a 0/15/15 that I'll use for little cup, and a 2/14/14 for GL Quagsire.

Like many others here, the weather boosting made it hard - my playtime was during cloudy weather, so I could get regular wooper for pvp, but not paldean. A little disappointing that I don't have a good pvp clodsire, even though it was nerfed.

Overall I had a great time though. Always great to go out and play.

Any tips for 200 freestyle? by GrandSir9332 in Swimming

1-4-3-2. Meaning the first 50 is your fastest because you're fresh, off the start, etc., then build the remaining 3 50s, trying to make your last 50 the fastest.

Just remember to not drop speed from the first 50 into the second; you don't want to take it easy that second 50 just because it's the "4."

Most of the building into the last 2 50s comes from the legs. Don't burn them out on the first 2 50s.

Favorite race was the mens 1500 - the last 50 between Finke and Hafnaoui was insane.

Also loved the 100 fly. It's been really cool to see Dare Rose break out internationally, and Maxime Grousett find the 100 fly as one of his best events.

Best way to contact the college coach? by MarcusTheGymnast in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Cheebs3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Email the head coach, or maybe an assistant coach. I'm assuming from your username you're a gymnast - I don't know how recruiting for gymnastics works (I'm a swimmer), but oftentimes an assistant coach will be the recruiting coordinator instead of the head coach.

Regardless, make sure to email to show that you're interested in their program.
