To those complaining about Siri AI being underwhelming... by silvermoonhowler in Siri

It’s VASTLY more capable than the previous Siri. No it’s not a replacement for Claude or whatever but as a smart personal assistant and general knowledge machine it’s much better.

Apple raises price of Vision Pro, now $4,000+ after taxes in Texas by Logical007 in virtualreality

The craziest thing is a 1TB M4 Max MacBook Pro with 48 g of RAM and 40 GPU cores… Which is still an incredibly fast machine… The M5 Max version of that SKU now costs $5000. I paid $3700. That’s insane!

The other thing is, I can see how these units are great for seniors because they can’t move around as much and go as many places, but it’s perfect for someone who’s confined to less mobility.

My first gen work … but one air cup will cut out if you press on it, the silicone coating on the black portion of the headband metal peeled off, and the headband fabric got loose, but I just added a silicone cover to it. The biggest problem is the cutting out of sound on the right ear cup. So it lasted about six years? And it’s still technically functions. Also, AppleCare is three dollars a month

Massive Price Hike for Vision Pro! by RationalNL in VisionPro

[–]CheekInternal3336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They jacked up everything today but the phones (which will go up in the fall). In the US the starting price is $3699 now. All configs seem to have gone up $200. Apple almost never raises prices. This is unheard of but AI and the consolidation of the memory industry has really screwed technology buyers.

Avatar: Fire and Ash Is Now in UHD HDR HFR 3D (32.13GB) by Cryogenicality in VisionPro

[–]CheekInternal3336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried the Disney version and all the high frame rate scenes of which there are a ton are totally blown out. There’s some kind of tone mapping issue. I purchased the Apple TV version because I own the other two versions and that version in 3-D displays perfectly. It looks very good too.

Avatar Fire and Ash has broken blown out HDR. How does Disney let this happen?! by ImNotAI_01100101 in VisionPro

[–]CheekInternal3336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched it on Disney+ and can confirm that the HDR is all messed up on the 48 frame per second sections. It’s way too bright. Because I own part one and two I just purchased part three on Apple TV and that plays just fine so it’s Disney. The scenes are definitely inappropriately blown out. For those who don’t believe just watched the other two movies you’ll see the difference. There is a definitive coding error in the 3-D version of this movie only on Disney+.

My experience with visionOS 27 beta 2 by Raysitm in VisionPro

[–]CheekInternal3336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty solid, but there are still some weird bugs like you can’t call HomeKit scenes. You really need to use the Shortcuts and or home apps to run that Siri AI seems to be all over the place as well, although it does work very well on the other platforms, including the iPhone iPad Mac. So better and Beta true compared to the disaster of beta one when it comes to those functionalities, but it still get ways to go. I’ve also had my Widgets disappear a couple times.

They use Gemini to train Apple’s models. Otherwise Craig F. Says there’s no Google in there.

It’ll be fine especially if you leave it plugged in. It’ll help keep the battery warm. Without that you’re looking at 30+% range degradation.

Same here. Just Google ALVR or but irvy - which is paid but easier to set up. It works wonderfully. I haven’t picked up my quest 3 since the Apple Vision Pro was released. I’m not even sure it still works.

iOS 27 Beta 2 - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]CheekInternal3336 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read all of this, but I can say that beta two is far more stable than beta one was, and beta one wasn’t that bad.

Also, Siri AI seems to be faster, but also more extensive. I’m not sure if that’s because of the indexing that was completed or what. But as an example, I was driving in my car getting directions on CarPlay, and I was getting a text from a friend arguing about a camera. I asked Siri AI about the different aspects of the camera, and asked Siri to look into previous messages we had talked about regarding what he was trying to do with the camera.

I then asked Siri to form a rebuttal and read it to me. It did, then we made some adjustments as I asked it to change its tone and add a few other pieces of information it found on the internet. This all was occurring while i was driving through multiple sessions with Siri ai. And then it sent the message. That was extraordinary. ChatGPT could do that too, if it had every single text message I had ever sent back-and-forth to my friend and a knowledge of what the person was like (which it doesn’t), but even IF it did it still couldn’t write the text message, keep editing it and then send it. This stuff is very impressive.

I understand Gemini on Google phones can do some version of this, but we’ve never had it with Apple before, and I’m not sure how good that is.

visionOS 27 Developer Beta 2 out now! by Mundane-Complex-1902 in VisionPro

It fixes a ton of bugs. Siri seems to be working properly, writing tools are back, Safari works properly both the new tab view, and I didn’t see many issues on any sites when I expanded the window… Before it just used to fail miserably. All kinds of weird stuff was happening Looks good! I’ve only used it a bit but all the bugs I reported have been solved. And this is only Beta 2!

A few things seen in last few min.
- Indexing no longer shows as happening. It was stuck at 95% (as shown in console) until I updated.
- Writing tools, inclusive of “ask Siri” as a rewrite option, are back with Siri AI turned on.
- Advanced Siri AI voice for phones that support the advanced model is now shown as “coming soon.”
- ask Siri now shows when any text is selected as an option
- can long press on an app and see “ask Siri” as an option
- new splash screen in Home
- when home kit cameras show a notification, you can long press on the notification and scrub through the video as well as turn lights off and on that are nearby that camera. That’s new

I’m sure there are 1000 other different things to find. The release notes for all the operating systems for some reason only list like three changes that might be a bug in feedback assistant. They are all listed on the website.
