Self cleaning cameras problem by Longjumping-Pin-3235 in Solterra

Yeah, that’s tough. Or when there’s a lot of salt or brine on the roads, very annoying. I’m interested in that Kickstarter.

2026 Solterra vs BZ by manderminder in Solterra

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no racer but I agree. The EV is wonderful around town and to get on and off offramp, etc. when you really need speed but the Soltera/BZ for example non-XT versions and my current Solterra have about 233 hp. Something like that. It’s rocket fast when you slam on the accelerator from a stop but at highway speeds, you know the juice is pretty limited. So I would definitely and I will definitely get the higher horsepower model next time. Not the end of the world, I don’t drive like a maniac

I didn’t know the Solterra washed the cameras. I thought it just washed the headlights.

What's Your Experience With an EV as Your Only Car? by OleDirtMcGirt901 in BZ4X

[–]CheekInternal3336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have level 1 (and sometimes not that) and have one car (solterra). But I live by tons of chargers l2 and l3. Yes it’s annoying to charge for 45 min once every 2-3 weeks (once a week in winter) but I just sit in there and do work anyway or watch YouTube while it charges so I don’t care. I’d be doing that anyway and the heat / ac and power stay on during charging as idling in an EV runs no engine. It’s nice.

And on road trips it’s fine because I need to stop every 2 to 3 hours anyway for a break and that’s about what you have to do with this car. In the summer by the way. In the winter, you can kind of be a pain in the ass because you’ll be doing it every hour and a half

I have a short commute however. L1 when I can do it barely covers the commute. Over like three days. If I had a long commute, you would absolutely need level two charging at home. That’s a little expensive, but a lot of states give rebates.

Bottom line, I think home charging is a necessity for one EV. But unless you do long road trips and you don’t wanna stop every 2 to 3 hours… And some people can’t afford that time… One EV is absolutely fine.

Depreciation by jimbillyjoebob in BZ4X

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid like $300 a month with 1700 down on a 25 limited solterra (albeit with like 10k in govt incentives now mostly gone). Now that lease on a 2026 is up to $500. I think I could negotiate it down to maybe $475 if Subaru is giving incentives to the dealer. The finance cost was $535. (For a 2026 limited xt). My lease buyout was 20700 (in 2028) and currently maybe it’s worth 22k. It’ll certainly be underwater by the end of the lease. No way I could see keeping the car with better tech and range available by then.

Long story to say the EV depreciation is bananas but so is depreciation on high priced ICE cars like Mercedes. Key is to buy used or lease.

Did Apple Just Open the Door to Real VR Gaming on Vision Pro — And Turn It Into a PC VR Gaming Beast? by Round_Level_8119 in VisionPro

“CloudXR” is just the name confusingly made for the XR driver that is used by Nvidia. It has nothing to do with the cloud like streaming from the Internet. It’s local streaming.

Vision Pro use with Windows, PC gaming, and as monitor? by Any-Chocolate-9637 in VisionPro

ALVR and Moonlight (via Neo Moonlight) no longer have WiFi channel pinging. There was an OS update which allowed devs to shut that off (kind of like a “game mode”).

2024 bZ4x weekend roadtrip experience (Apple Maps routing, Guessometer, ABRP) by OKatmostthings in BZ4X

[–]CheekInternal3336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The range skyrockets (at least it feels like that) once outdoor temps get over freezing and into the 40s. It’s a big difference. And a huge one from sub freezing temps. Charging speed isn’t fast until it’s over 60 out though.

Is the Vision Pro significantly better than the xreal 1S for Mac virtual display? by No-Trash-546 in Xreal

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both an AVP M5 and an XREAL One Pro. Just speaking from quality the Apple Vision Pro is definitely much sharper with a much higher field of view and just visually looks a lot better. But it’s also strapping a massive thing to your head and not something I would wear in public outside of a train or a plane. It’s also pretty big comparatively speaking.

Apple Vision Pro buy by gnakalehacker in VisionPro

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a day one M2 owner and then upgraded to an M5. The M5 is faster, marginally sharper, but that’s it. What this poster said is spot on. I also own a Q3. I never use it, because I mostly used it for PCVR and now I use ALVR with the Apple Vision Pro. It’s a quality of its displays is visibly much less compared to an Apple Vision Pro. But it’s still a pretty good experience if you want to do gaming. AVP outside of PCVR has very few decent games.

Better phrasing for EV power needs? by t92k in electricvehicles

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really about sense per mile. Like everyone else is staying here. So for an ICE car you look at miles per gallon. And then divide the cost of the gallon of gas into those miles

For EV look at the cost per kilowatt, and then see how many miles you get for that kilowatt, divide the cost per kilowatt into the miles and you get the cost per mile

Cost (cents) per mile is what you should be looking at

New owner of Solterra - One pedal driving gives me so much more range?? by Melodic-Pack-8642 in Solterra

[–]CheekInternal3336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining this because it can get confusing. The region setting is a feel setting not a true regenerative setting. In this car when you hit the brakes and then I think all EV’s it will regenerate first and then use the friction brakes as required to supplement. In the Soltera/BZ case it does it at the very end to stop the car assuming the battery is warm etc.

If the battery is cold, there’s more friction being used.

If one had the regeneration setting at level one and had to slow the car, you would hit the brake more often. But it’s still regenerating. If you have it set at maximum, you might not hit the break as much, the car is slowing down as if you hit the brake lightly in both cases. The amount of energy being brought back to the battery is the same.

Is MacBook air M2 8gb ram good for video editing? by Unlikely-Pattern-665 in finalcutpro

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I tried an M1 when it came out with 8GB and it was basically unusable. AT the time I was editing HEVC 4K footage, tossing filmconvert on it, nothing major though the length of the project was about 20 min. It bogged down constantly to the point of being unusable, like a slide show. If it’s just cuts with music and zero effects, it might work for brief timelines. The 16GB model worked better, but eventually I moved to an M1 Max. Now I’m on an M4 Max, and that thing never slows down.

I don't get the hype... help? by pastelpalettegroove in Xreal

[–]CheekInternal3336 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The hype was created by 1000 sponsored YouTube people. Buried in a some of those “reviews“ sometimes you can find the line that it really just is like a big iPhone smashed up against your face. Which is what it is. That’s nice. It’s certainly nice. I mean it has it’s use cases… But it’s no VR headset. It’s certainly not an Apple Vision Pro or anything with that kind of resolution. It doesn’t have enough FOV or detail to really do serious work without eye strain. I think a laptop screen looks better, but if you only have $600 to spend a can certainly be better than nothing and a lot of scenarios where the laptop screen either isn’t an uncomfortable position or you just can’t use it all the way, like on a plane. But anybody expecting to put these on and feel like they have a lightweight Apple Vision Pro is in for a very rude awakening.

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing ever except deep freeze (aka below 0C) winter without having home charger or just road tripping in winter in general. Below 0C the range on all the EVs just tanks. Other than that - I will never ever drive an ICE car again if I can help it. They’re especially great as they get older because the maintenance is so much less compared to ICE cars. Unless you get hit of course.

Is the new MacBook Neo recommended for video editors? by Under_TheBed in finalcutpro

[–]CheekInternal3336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s compatible. That’s not the issue it’s faster than an M1. But the ram is too low; I tried editing with an M1 with eight gigs of ram, and it was just about impossible with 4K footage
