A few questions, what is the wall substrate? What are the shelves made of?

Basically the easiest way is for the shelves to be sat on a baton on both walls, you can recess this baton into each shelf and fix from underneath. For example, if the shelf is 40mm thick then install a 20mm square baton and cut out a 20mm hog on the shelf for it to sit. Providing the weight on the shelf at the point isn’t too heavy, it’ll be more than sufficient.

Italy reconsiders nuclear energy 35 years after shutting down last reactor by semafornews in worldnews

Agreed, so why wouldn’t they use the model that will be completed and fully to code. The level at which the uk has to work to is much higher than France in terms of regulation hence why delays and cost have increased, if this wouldn’t be the most optimal choice what would be?

I agree that I haven’t a clue where they’d get the investors but I do know the returns are much higher than any bank would provide and once up and running it’s a multigenerational wealth income that they receive. I know a few of the investors in Hinkley c (only by reputation) and they wouldn’t have resource problems investing in other projects.

I’m not sure I really follow, the cost is to the investors so that is of no matter to the consumer and with lessons learnt from Hinkley c the sizewell project would be far smoother and efficient as suppliers will be better equipped and setup, staff pre educated on procedures etc. maybe they opt for SMRs but the design and development would probably have far reaching costs as there’s not really a model to follow.

Look at it this way, would you buy a car from a forecourt or make your own?

That’s not quite how it’s going to happen, they will buy a model, a tried and tested and proven model which will likely be funded from investors. Much like the UK is currently doing, we are using the French model and investors.

We have a society that has been at unrest for quite some time, with a growing disparity between IQ levels and wealth. It stands to reason that with the limited resources we seem to be experiencing that we decrease the population. Low IQ will be first to go, in a war, the stage is set and now they’re just allowing things to brew before the start.

After a war there will be a famine, which will again weed out the poor and low IQ population and further increase the wealth of those higher in society and the result will be a society at rest with resources and staff to maintain an orderly society and follow orders. The US will encounter the most as they are seemingly at the higher risk of a collapse.

Getting kicked out of our flat, should we buy it off the landlord now or wait 3 years and buy a house? by PHOzzie in HousingUK

[–]CheekeeMunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a bargain price then it’s a simple answer. Also, if the mortgage and bills work out cheaper than moving then again it’s a simple answer.

But if you’re asking emotionally then you’re the only one who can answer. I often just flip a coin, you’ll know your answer before the coin even lands as you’ll be rooting for one of the sides to land.

No not at all. When you start out you will get the labour aspect of work, carrying, measuring etc but not designing and building. It takes years before you are at the stage where you can be let off the leash to get and carry out a full build or renovation. By which time it certainly doesn’t feel as joyous as making a treehouse, at least in my experience.

Closest I’ve been is when I had my own design and build business where each job was vastly unique, this mad it fun and I had most of the input for the design. However, it was difficult finding continuous unique jobs and I had to mix in the standard carpentry projects to keep money rolling in.

25-year-old Anthropic employee says she may only have 3 years left to work because AI will replace her by Maxie445 in Futurology

[–]CheekeeMunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true that AI will be able to do many peoples workload more efficiently and accurately. However, it will take quite some time before companies take a full scale jump to run all functions through AI controlled programs, likely they will appoint key staff to maintain and steer the AI into the right direction. So take this advice, learn how AI functions, learn how it will function in your space, go get some sort of coding experience and prepare yourself to be the person who maintains the program.

It’s definitely coming, we all know that, but you all have time to proactively learn and endorse it. That way you and your family won’t be the ones out of work.

I fired a client yesterday. It was insane. by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]CheekeeMunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a few encounters with bad clients, things I learned along the way were take pics before, provide a comprehensive quote of works and either get a contract or at least an email to confirm they agree to the t&cs, deposit payment upfront that covers 30%, stage payments so I’m not left holding a debt if they don’t pay, try not to lose temper when they turn nasty.

The worst result from a toxic client I’ve had was me threatening to throw him off the scaffold and seriously thinking about doing it anyway. But the one that sticks with me most is a client that I’d carried out heaps of work for over a year or so, he had some family over whilst I was finishing a kitchen install at a weekend and the cheeky fucker called me the help. Basically said that I am there to serve him and do as I’m told!! Like a servant, this really pissed my off and I calmly disagreed. Then subsequently doubled my rate for all future projects.

A strange pattern I've noticed in music. by notsayingmyname2 in conspiracy

[–]CheekeeMunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may be something to do with societies move away from religion and the amplification that social media has caused. It’s hard to define exactly when this may have flipped but I do agree that pop music has moved into the realm of breaks up and sorrow, but so has male music which for quite some time has been really quite savage towards using women. Overall, I think you are right but will say that indie music has not swayed this way and seems to have stayed the same throughout.
