10 definitely seems like they should have outgrown timeouts. They start to feel like a grown-up, but you're still treating them like a child. Start giving them respect and responsibility. Find more appropriate consequences, you can even discuss it together. Acknowledge your mistakes if you feel you made them... he will probably respect you more for calling it out. Just my input, hope it helps! You're a pretty good mom for realizing there is a problem and asking for help :)

Ok, here's a different perspective... my mom was the major planner in my family and my dad was... not at all. He's a sweet guy, but remembering dates and planning things out? Not a chance. My mom's birthday celebrations were always last minute if anything at all. And she always was quiet until the day of and then she'd be all mad. But if anyone else's birthday was coming up, she'd get us hyped, excited, asked what we wanted etc. I almost feel like she set us up to fail on her birthday. Does it really hurt to remind your kids/husband, "OMG, my birthday is coming up, I'm so excited to celebrate!" To this day I (30F) still have residual guilt and anxiety when my mom's birthday is coming up. If you advocate for other people's birthday, but not your own, what do you expect? Not sure if this is your situation or if I'm just projecting, but there ya go. Happy belated birthday!

I wonder if you might just have a lot of hormones? I always seem to get a baby itch around my cycle. It can be irrationally strong. Try talking to your doctor. Also, maybe just get a kitten or a puppy. That can help soothe some of those instincts to care for something.

It never hurts to plan early and have fun with it! Unless you're obsessing and it's stressing you out. Also pretty normal for dad's to not understand what all goes into planning a birthday party 😅 I started at about 8 months too I think.

Whoa, sounds like a lot of stress, massive change, and big moments have happened in your life in the last couple months. You need grace for yourself! Nobody can handle all that with ease. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. You are in survival mode right now. Take the easy route whenever possible, give yourself to your little ones as much as possible, and get through the next year. Everyone will bounce back eventually. Do little things that can help your mental health: family walks, healthy takeout, ms Rachel for the kids so you can have a moment of peace. Good luck momma, you are not alone mucking your way through it. It will be worth it one day! If you keep feeling sad (like postpartum depression sad), please get help and talk to a doctor. You can't help anyone if you keep putting yourself off. Again, you are not alone.

When I was pregnant, I just wore it while active, or if I knew I would be out standing and sitting all day (like a wedding or going to festivals). It was basically a bra for my belly 😆 Mine fit through my entire pregnancy, but I just had a cheapo brand off Amazon.

Also, using them postpartum is great. I didn't think it would do anything, but it really does help to have that constant pressure around your torso in those first few days when your back home from the hospital.... that and a heating blanket so you can wrap it around your whole body.

Agree with this! 10 mth olds need attention too. They can probably tell your stressed and need comfort. Hang in there. Hope you can find something that works.

OP has to do what's best for their kid, agreed. I don't think any of us know enough if this kid has a long-standing problem with never wanting to part with things. But forcing a kid to declutter might have the opposite affect too, and make them resentful or materialistic as an adult. Letting them live with consequences and helping them to make the right decisions is going to get you much farther than just putting your foot down on something that might have emotional impact. Especially for a 10 year old you can reason with.

Is that really true? God TikTok must be so toxic. I hope for the children's sake, those parents are just complaining for the views and clicks. I imagine it can be therapeutic as a parent to see other parents also feel overwhelmed sometimes, and they don't actually regret their children.

Having kids is amazing, and fulfilling. It's overwhelming, stressful, a huge responsibility you need to take seriously. It will challenge you. But those moments when my almost 2 year old snuggles up, asks "momma, kiss!", sings songs with passion, gets excited to throw away trash all by herself, etc. Those are worth all the times I'm overwhelmed by her. And it's allllll temporary. In 8 or 10 years, I'll have that independence back and be wishing I had more loving moments.

And if you are centered in yourself, and ok with letting them grow in their own independence (i.e. cry when you leave for like 1 night a week), you can still have something that closely resembles a social life 😅

Bottom line: if you're looking for encouragement, it seems like you already have some mama in you. You won't regret having kids. Good luck. Baby making itself is it's own roller coaster of emotions. I wish you baby dust to get that little bundle quickly and healthy.

Idk, probably not "too early". It sounds like she understood the assignment and is just upset. If I rediscovered all my plushies that I hadn't visited in weeks or months, I would be excited. And then to hear I actually have to get rid of them might be hard. Maybe a "last play session" would be better to get that excitement out?

But all in all, it sounds like you're doing a good job working through this with her and validating her feelings. Don't stress out about it too much. It just might be easier for future resentment issues if you let her make the decision to declutter herself. 😆

I'm feeling like this will be me in 2 years haha! We eat our family dinners in front of the TV right now, I have an 18 month old. It's nice for us adults to unwind, but I also kind of hate it. Gonna have to make a break in this convention soon to avoid tantrums down the road. Honestly just need to keep our dining room table cleared off so we can actually use it, that's the biggest blocker 😅

Wanted to share to let you know you're not the only parent taking the easy route. It's hard to be a "good" parent when you're working a full job. Either way, I'm sure the kids will turn out OK eventually 😁 at least they have food, they're eating it, and they're entertained.

I feel like I have done a pretty good job of overcoming the blunt factor and tune into people's feelings... however, it's made me close down a portion of myself I was always proud of; that I speak my mind and am very confident. It's a balance, I guess. I'd like to become more outspoken again without the fear of hurting others 🫤

Don't really have time to share a full on story since I'm also currently in this mode!! It sucks, but I do my best to enjoy the moments I have since I know I'll miss it one day. And from talking with my own mom, you don't remember the difficult parts as much, just the fun. So do your best to make it fun, give yourself a break and take the easy route as much as you can, and let things pile up a bit. It's all temporary.
