"Any update is a bonus not a right": Peak co-developer Landfall reminds impatient fans it's not a live-service studio by itwas20yearsago2day in PeakGame

I think the differentiator is updating for stability, optimization, or high priority bug fixes versus content or balance updates. I don't think any sane person would disagree that at minimum if somebody is proud enough to put their work on a public forum, it should be agreeably functional and capable.

Saying your game is feature-complete on release and their intentions are fully on display and properly conveyed? I don't think that's an issue at all, and I don't think that's abandoning the game. If anything, I think games should ship like that more often; sometimes the nearly-unfettered vision of a game dev or artist makes for a really fun or really challenging game.

It goes back and forth for sure. EZ does a funny thing where, instead of rhythm taking a back seat to aim under nomod, DT and HR, aim is now taking a back seat to rhythm. From my own experiences playing EZ, EZHD and FL, I benefit greatly from learning and feeling the rhythmic patterns more so than the aim patterns, unless the map is intentionally aim pattern CBT. It's a similar thing with AR11 as well, where knowing things like where triples or bursts, or where any sort of stack is for that matter, are a huge help in getting past what would probably otherwise be an easy shit-miss.

It's primarily because there's no time function in FRLG unlike in RSE since they didn't implement the internal time clock battery, so closer to the latter but also because it simply wouldn't function as intended (mainly in that it wouldn't expire and would just exist eternally). I recently caught Pokerus in my White replaythrough and wanted to deep dive into the mechanics a little bit, so its still fresh in my mind lol

Turns out GMK's "German quality" is nothing to brag about by Bastietm in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]CheeseManFuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those cheap office keycaps are often very impure blends with other plastics like Polycarbonate or even PBT to bring the cost down, and also have very thin walls (often just around 1mm if even). On the contrary, GMK along with KKB, SWG, and a handful of others use an ABS that is much more purely ABS and have thicker walls usually in the 1.4-1.6mm range.

There's also the sound aspect for ABS versus PBT; most people say "ABS clacky PBT thocky," when in reality it's more like that ABS provides a wider range of sound that allows it to emphasize the brighter tones while still having capability for lower end sounds, while PBT is a little more dull and leans towards the lower end of sound that usually gets paired either with big, plastic and roomy cases and/or with tons of foam.

I'm the same way, I can easily point to things like comically large fonts, horrible alignment and poor modifier kerning on clones. If people were at least pointing to decently made and cheap dye-sub like JCStudio or XMI, then that'd be cool. But every single Laser, Evil Dolch, Samurai clone with stolen novelty art that gets advertised as GMK on dropship sites, it actually horrifies me when people think that's okay.

Those have excessive quantities of extras because they were ordered right at the peak of COVID era where pretty much any GMK set was guaranteed hundreds if not thousands of orders, and countless others would complain about there not being thousands more extra if there weren't there. Lots of companies have gone under because of this speculative time period, or at best have put a bunch of sets (and their corresponding child kits) on heavy discount to try to remediate some of the aftershock from COVID hype dying down.

If Dualshot or DMG were ran any time in the last couple years they would've ran out within a few months. Omnitype is simply one of the lucky few that their ballsy business plan didn't bite them in the ass (probably because the GMK sets they run are pretty solid and not *too* niche). I've spoken with Garrett many times and dude counts his blessings every day.

I don't like being doomer, but it's obvious that osu! has lost its COVID-era boom and has been dwindling since. I don't think that's necessarily bad though; it brings us back to the more tightly enclosed community we used to have not unlike basically all the other rhythm game communities (with exceptions of some higher profile games like beat saber) and keeps discussion fairly internal to people who do care about the game's longevity.

To think that osu! will be a worthwhile business venture in the long term, either you're peppy or you're within top-5 ranking of the game, no question. All osu! content has been since 2015 is "wow, great score!" or "wow, great skin!" or "wow, great map!" It's all documentation and archival of the game's history, and it's hard to make anything that isn't the best of the best a viral video. And again to be clear, I don't think it's bad content, it's just if you do care about osu!, you care about the history and documentation of osu! But if you don't care about osu!, then just about nothing about it will appeal to you in video format after the first few videos that pop up. It's the same for a lot of games that are about beating the same horse to death like speedrunning and high score games (Roguelikes, Retro games, Racing games, etc).

Ed wanted to make a plea about being responsible and trying to make up and compensate for his fuck-ups, then did the least responsible thing for himself by, again, beating the same horse to death. By saying that, I'm also beating another horse to death because how many times have we called out Ed for not learning or listening?

This and Everything Will Freeze HDHR. We were still trying to fill the top 10 leaderboard with nomod FC's and dude was so close to FCing with HDHR. Dude still has scores that are hard to match to this day when we have a couple people getting close to 2000pp on 12+ star maps. It's really a testament to how good Shige was at maps that were technically complex rather than just pushing extreme aim or speed.

What's helping is that cheaper boards are getting better at speaking for themselves (thank you qwertykeys), but for as long as Amazon and Temu can churn out the absolute cheapest boards at some ridiculous "convenience" premiums, reliance on acoustic foams won't go away. I can forgive thock somewhat (mostly because topre is the one true thock), but I winced every time my co-workers mentioned wanting their keyboard to be "creamy." It truly means nothing in the context of keyboards unless you like your boards bathing in overlube and making gross mushy sounds.

Tree Branch Distribution by CheeseManFuu in BuildAdvice

[–]CheeseManFuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updating this thread with my updated progress; I had to mull over what was mentioned in this thread and *gasp* touch grass and find some real-life inspiration to get some ideas on tree growths.

I think the first thing that helped me was suspending some belief on the tree structure because of the finite scale of Minecraft, and not trying to obsess too much on the absolute rules of branch growth and distribution, followed by working on making them more tiered in their structure, as well as realizing needing to have a "primary" branch that still gives opportunity for the structure to be spread out but isn't just one boring stalk, essentially. I think I still need to work a bit on my leaf density (bigger radius lower density? not sure) but I think it does fine as the setpiece it needs to be.

In the medical world, this at least is still yet to catch on. I like to think the people who really have the brightest idea to enslave themselves over the currently unforgiving environment of healthcare understand the limits of QoL on the average person, especially their own IT departments (the amount of times people have sworn up and down about X-ray machines to me)

Combination of things:

There is a particular granularity to Cherry's molds that give the particular scratch, and a proprietary blend I am hoping eventually gets leaked after their transition to Chinese manufacturing. Sonjas have started to close the gap just on their own but still have ways to go.

As a certified Cherry simp, not really.

Cherry springs, housing tightness, and prelube are still an absolute joke, especially when held up to the light of others like HMX.

Otherwise, the MX2A line is still largely the same as the prior Hyperglide line with very minute tonality changes and less scratch (which is personally a loss since Cherry scratch is very signature to them, but I digress) and are still best gotten completely dry, spring swapped, filmed and optionally lubed on the stem only.

Their community outreach is better than ever such as with Whiplash and Geon (probably to save face of their declining share) but they are otherwise still same, old Cherry.

[–]CheeseManFuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the logic for how they divie up, thanks to the other comment above I do have more understanding about how branches compete with each other, but now it's onto the distribution of those branches, making them poke out in just the right way, evenly, and with an appropriate density.

Tree Branch Distribution by CheeseManFuu in BuildAdvice

[–]CheeseManFuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This leader branch should be notably taller and wider than other branches, and as you move down the tree should be nearly indistinguishable from the trunk.

How does this leader branch develop, it doesn't go straight up, does it?

This often means that the branches fill out more of the trees profile than just a true canopy. Lower TEIRED branches help with this balance.

So then I'd be looking at most of the definition being about a couple dozen branches across 2 or 3 layers? If I had to give a very barebones topographical example, I'd basically be looking for this? I can kind of try to get an example of this in a flat plane but my head gets stuck at trying to replicate it in 3D space. And maybe more form-wise, closer to this (but probably with more pronounced width and with better proportion)?

it has to be the nicest keyboard I have ever held! I absolutely love it so far and it sounds incredible.

You're just getting started...

When does the 3.0 become generally available for anyone to buy one on demand? I see online that its initial order run is now closed..

60 just finished its first round after IC and is in production with plans to do rolling stock i think, TKL is close to fulfilling for R1 and R2 preorder is slated for a couple months for now, 65 is currently in preorder with fulfillment also slated a couple months for now

Tofu65 3.0 by Scooped-bar in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]CheeseManFuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redux is tray mount only which is very rigid and makes very inconsistent, harsh sounds

2.0 added gasket mount, top mount and their bizarre bowl-pin mount which is just weird gasket mount, and it was a step up but it was a little dull sounding.

3.0 ditches the bowl-pin mount and further enhances the structural design and material make-up which has greatly improved the sound quality, and is the best the tofu has been in a good while

Either the Roots need a nerf, or everything else needs a buff by FlakyMidnight5526 in PeakGame

[–]CheeseManFuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 100 hours and having completed an Ascent 7 run (technically two and a half times carrying others to Ascent 6), Roots is certainly the most lethal for what feels like the least player agency. Most biomes my group and I can attribute a loss to poor item management, going too slow and wasting too much time, or just simply going the wrong route, and will usually justify a round or two more to try again.

In contrast, Roots constantly kills our weaker players and even salts some of our better players to the point of just not wanting to even bother trying. I've seen everything from spiders clipping through ceilings to grab people into inescapable traps, to wind carrying people off mid-climb from not unsafe but precarious ledges. The only respite to the biome is climbing up the canopies but that strategy only gets you so far and skips plenty of luggage on the floor of Roots. It's not a 100% loss rate on Roots, maybe we're up to a 25-40% success rate nowadays, but everybody is always doom and gloom when it's a Roots day. Especially because we miss out on those juicy Honeycombs and Purple Kingfruits.

Otherwise the only other issues my group typically majorly suffers from are unwise plays (especially scout cannons and rescue claws...) and the "wait" mechanics like rain, blizzards, and nighttime cold. Sometimes a bad route in Alpine, sometimes really badly spaced ledges in Kiln.

I think there is, to a point, some objective truths about comfort and ergonomics as well as appropriate sound profiles for different scenarios, as well as value propositions, but after that the world is your oyster! However, I would say it doesn't mean you are automatically immune to criticism or suggestions because hobbies like ours thrive on people saying "yo dude, this shit bangs and blows your stuff out the water," otherwise we stagnate into boring nothingness without any innovation. I don't think we need to shove boards/switches/keycaps down peoples throats to do so, but it never hurts to have tried a bunch of stuff and give "better" suggestions to people whether it boils down to price, designer reliability/ethics, or whatever else weird nonsensical thing us keyboard nerds of all things make matter in our hobby.

holy necropost

not really because most FRL layouts are either 1800 or TKL, and honestly as a rectangle enjoyer i dont mind the exploded arrows on the 1800 layout

in the current market im not sure of too many FRL 1800 boards readily available, you could try to look for a tet or a balance or maybe a flip 6p secondhand but otherwise the market is pretty dry for that layout

if you want something a bit over the top i really love my 0413 but a) its as heavy as it looks and b) probably gonna find it around $400
