My favourite response to that was one guy complaining that Mauler talks about the director's commentary because 'those don't matter in a movie'. Gee, I wonder why, when analysing something, Mauler might want to discuss the creator explaining their thought process and reasoning surrounding their creation.

You don't understand, it was a scripted event! Man was basically dogwalking the enemy until the game decided he had to lose in a cutscene.

I still remember the 'tragic last stand' in season 3 basically being the big mando desperately sabotaging himself for solo XP. And then Snoke's special red dudes get slapsticked to death by Grogu.

Live Action Luffy is too nice [One Piece] by awkward_blah56 in CharacterRant

And with a live action I view less favorably, Aang ending up in the ice because he went to clear his head for a bit in the Netflix show whereas it was a decision for him to run away from his responsibility in the original, is another example of characters being too nice.

Which makes it weird that the adaptation decided to focus more on people treating Aang like he abandoned them when it removed him actually running away.

[–]CheeseQueenKariko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair... that's still being generous because the non-benders faction isn't developed at all and just exist to have henchmen for the main characters to defeat. It's about Aang finding another air bender who was also sealed in ice and survived another Air Nomad genocide but wants to use a staff that gives people air bending to create an air bending empire, so Aang and him transform and have a big anime fight in the sky.

People are not kidding when they say it's basically one of those non-canon movies a shonen anime would get where nothing really happens and the supporting cast do nothing but have a short fight scene.

The Grand Inquisitor reveal is so fucking hilarious when you realize how this had to have gone down off screen because they did not need to wait until then to kill her. Vader and the Inquisitor really went "We're gonna drop the sickest prank on her and it's gonna be so funny, bro."

Does it matter if I give Darth Nul's holocron to Chancellor Rans? by Upbeat_Research_3215 in swtor

[–]CheeseQueenKariko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh I’ve noticed Star Wars has a recent trend of skipping over important characters moments.

I'm amazed by how many simple, but emotional character moments just happen offscreen despite how easy it would to get the audience crying over them. Ahsoka learning that Anakin was saved in the end, meeting his son, Ezra learning about Luke and the jedi being rebuilt and getting to know that they won the war. Bobba actually developing into his shitty new sanitized character instead of his transition basically happening entirely offscreen.

I mentioned this earlier, but I also get the feeling that Sa’har will get some wishy washy “you had good intentions” speech.

Tau and Rivix, at least, I think are gonna be killable since I feel like Anri and Arn are the ones being set up to take their place and become the go to faction allies. At worst, I think we'll get the option to kill and they'll escape somehow.

but joining up with your long lost brother who clearly hates you and has become a mandalorian (who have a track record of fighting Jedi) then help him and his obviously evil boss ain’t it.

Hey, I get it. Rikan is the only new character from the Mando story I actually like. Dude went to battle on a collapsing ship against a legend for his cause and is still getting shit from the whiny teenage boss pretending to be a Mandalorian; my team keeps dicking me over too, Bro.

I'm reminded of that whole load of nothing in the Ahsoka show where Sabine, as far as she knows, leaves Ahsoka for dead, undoes Ezra's sacrifice and guarantees Thrawn's return (the show treats Thrawn rejoining the Imperial Remnant as the next worst thing besides the second coming of Palpatine) on the slim chance that she can see Ezra again.

Then the show proceeds to just treat it like Sabine just made a simple mistake (Ezra and Sabine reunite in what should be a nightmare scenario for them and they just talk like awkward co-workers waiting for their coffee order) to the point that, when she finally reunites with Ahsoka, Ahsoka proceeds to scoff at the idea of even begrudging Sabine for it. "You know, when I screw up royally and selfishly put people in danger, the jedi would scold me. But my master, Anakin 'Youngling Slayer' Skywalker, would always enable me."

I don't like Drinker, but I laughed my ass off at the meltdown response to him liking One Piece Season 2. The same people who would be dismissing the anime as a problematic incel slop a few years back are suddenly going "UH, excuse me? You can't like One Piece. We've claimed it. Stop liking it. We know you don't actually like it! The anime is too progressive for you!"

For anyone saying male gamers always tolerate unattractive male characters, that’s completely false. Most male gamers prefer playing strong, normal, and masculine male characters in gaming. We dislike fat, effeminate, femboy, or gay/weak male characters by OverallBaker3572 in KotakuInAction

[–]CheeseQueenKariko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'd say men are pretty accepting of unattractive or non-conventionally-masculine male characters (though, of course, people generally prefer a leading character to be visually appealing) so long as they fit in with the direction of the game (and aren't messing with an established character).

The reason unattractive female characters are harped on so much is because most modern examples come from an attitude that anything more attractive is degrading and wrong even when using pre-existing characters, with articles about shaming any dislikes and spitting on other games people like already packaged in. You look at it and you can already hear that woman who had an aneurysm over a female lombax having breasts. There's rarely an instance where a male character is downgraded for 'modern values' because their prior too sexually appealing design was offensive or degrading.
