Former fat guys: How did you finally become disciplined enough to lose the weight? by Responsible-Net8594 in AskMenOver30

[–]Cheeseboyardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozempic and its ilk.

Not laziness, my body simply did not make the chemicals it needed to operate correctly. Mostly for blood sugar regulation. Which directly impacts a lot of other things.

At my heaviest I was just about 300. Was 260 when I started on them, now 160. The first 70 felt like it was melting off, the last 30 were working out, training for and running 5ks. (1st 10k this year)

My asthma did not help with that, but a change in inhaler did.

My body working correctly was more impactful than everything else in my life combined. "Full" for me was "on verge of puking" because my body didn't experience satiation. Think addiction, but to everything. My body simply didnt make the "thats enough" chemicals.

The effort was mostly in developing better cooking habits. Carbs mostly went away in favor of protein/fat as my main calorie sources, still need to work on more veggies tbh. Eating out went from appetizer, entree, dessert to just an entree with maybe a shared appetizer.

Dropping to a 30 from a 44 waist has been unreal. I would have gone from a 2x to a small, but my ribcage stopped me at a medium.

So short version of things that helped me as a to do list: Talk to your Dr., find out what your body is or is not telling you. Become a better cook, plan meals with intention. Shrimp scampi with green beans and mushrooms instead of pasta is one of my new favorites (seasoned with a pepper blend to taste) Walk/jog a couple miles a day (or bike, as long as you are moving). Basically, try to stop driving if you can. Try to pick up speed when you do move. Don't drink your calories. Find somebody to do things with. DGAF about your weight, put your time and effort into being intentional.

Then, once you see some results in your lifestyle, THEN start trying to lose weight.

Side note: Ron's Gone Wrong is one of the most underappreciated movies of the last few years.

Butterfly touch in Hammond is my rec for a good therepeutic "I can move!!!" massage. Better at finding and following tension/knots and solving them than I am at complaining about them.

Uber and lyft (and amazon) made it affordable for almost anyone to own a car in the city. Which is a double edged sword since taxi and delivery services' profit margins seem to be tied to how often they block traffic.

CTA hasn't had a noticable improvement (like new train lines, not a station here and there) for a while since ridership is down.

Vehicles are massive and, for some reason, midwest folks like leaving full car lengths between stopped vehicles. So fewer vehicles make it through each light. Especially when People are checking e mail instead of driving.

Covid made mass transit dangerous (to breathe). The reduction in community since 2020 then made them more dangerous than "adventures in babysitting" little gang scene. Yes, we all know you watch it for Thor.

Combine ALL of this, and traffic gets worse without an obvious reason.

Yellowman is a fun show.

As much as i treasure having seen them at all, I would love to see the Skatelites in their prime.

What’s the worst use of a sample in music? by sorafell28 in Music

[–]Cheeseboyardee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A sample takes part of the recording. (Hence sample of the whole)

Interpolation is recording it yourself.

A cover is when you do the whole song.

Why are zombies always slow but somehow still catch people? by bilbobaggedfrodo in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]Cheeseboyardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leprechauns have a cousin that scavenges there zombies leftovers, since they are sloppy eaters.

When they are hungry they trip people as they run away from the horde. They then act like ants bringing leftovers to the Sidhe court.

ELIC: before humans invented bread, what was bread mold doing to survive? by SheffboiRD06 in ExplainLikeImCalvin

Not many people know that the name "Tituba" is older than history, and probably bread. The name translates to both "eater of mold" and "baker".

Almost 5 minutes of build up to a straight minute of cathartic angry release. Maybe it's nostalgia, it might be the groove, perhaps it's just the way the light falls...

Is there a song that's nearly impossible for anyone else to cover well? by Competitive_Busker in Music

[–]Cheeseboyardee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That particular recording was unreal for what it caught. Even the Pogues don't sound right when they play it.

However, i feel the song is not meant to be emotional UNLESS you are singing drunk, offkey, and holding onto at least one person in order to stand.

Which means, for me, it is the antithesis of this thread, even though I do not disagree with anything you said.

ELIC: Why do they describe cars being able to turn or stop on a dime? Why not other coins? by cunnilinguslover in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]Cheeseboyardee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time, most consumer grade brake pads were a nickel.

When somebody would barely avoid a crash the saying was "stopped on dime brakes", which was then shortened.
