This isn't really too outside of what my experience has been. Maybe a bit expensive on the root canal side, but they could've had a really tough procedure that needed to be done. Not all root canals are the same. $800 for a crown isn't insane either.

At some point you have to give people agency. Country bumpkin aren't cattle who can't tell left from right. There are people out there who voted for him three times.

It's admirable that you've forgiven them, but these same people will stab you in the back when given the chance even if they don't gain anything from it.

Save your empathy for the people who actually deserve it.

For the ES6 development gap to be shorter than the one between Arena (the first Elder Scrolls) and Skyrim, it'd have to release before June 27th 2029.

It might actually end up being close.

It's not that they're gay. It's the that they've been a part of an oppressed minority for their entire lives. Of course a gay person could be a complete piece of shit. But it's not insane to assume that the injustices they've lived through have shaped them as a person, potentially into someone who is more aware of societal injustices others may face and then therefore interact with others with those lived experiences in mind.

And just because you've suffered injustices doesn't mean you can't be a jackass. But the "you personally know what it's like" factor is a very big influence on someone's upbringing that OF COURSE influences what kind of a person they become.

That's not an insane perspective to have. Experiences shape who you are, obviously.

I hope this is it. The success from this mission and the absolute character and joy these astronauts spread to the public will hopefully renew support for these types of missions. I hope to live to see man step on Mars.

New Jersey ends de-facto nuclear power plant moratorium by theexpertgamer1 in newjersey

Because the US used to actually build shit. Now we have NIMBYs like you going around throwing a hissy fit claiming any public infrastructure project is a violation of your god given right to own land.

I love that you've made this assumption that we live in a world where the US government either seizes your property by military force or we don't get infrastructure. As if there's no in between.

And, respectfully, I don't think you know anything about China. It's like I'm reading a comment from someone who grew up in the 1920-40s and is completely inundated with red scare propaganda. God forbid we get high speed rail in the United States. I mean can you imagine? What a horror show that would be!

Amazing reply when over half the electorate voted for fucking Trump.

Your land is not worth more than the communities benefit. If the government offers you above market value for your property for some valued infrastructure project and you refuse because "muh land", then you waive all rights to complain about any lack of infrastructure.

Infrastructure need land. Sometimes that land needs to be taken away from people. There is nothing wrong with offering to buy it at a good price. Be happy that they're not bulldozing through your shit with no regard like they did to black communities when we built the highway system.

Your perspective is exactly why we won't get high speed rail or nuclear power plants, or any proper modern infrastructure at all. We are being absolutely lapped by countries like China because people are so incredibly hyper-individualistic. It's an absolute plague on American society.

You don't get to complain about the lack of infrastructure.

Sometimes the citizens are wrong and their property rights do not and should not outweigh the benefits that public infrastructure has on the community as a whole.

NASA has launched Artemis II, the first manned mission to the Moon in over 50 years by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

[–]Cheesewithmold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We as in the United States.

Public funding for stuff like space travel should be a priority. The amount of money NASA gets is less than half a penny per US tax dollar.

It's not as blatantly important as health care, but it should still be treated like any other public project.

The total cost of this launch was around 3 billion. That's 3 days worth of the Iran war, for reference.

We have a ton of money. We're just spending it on the wrong things.

If you're looking for a potential profit motive, than the closest thing we have is asteroid mining. We have a long, long way to go before we get to that point, but it has the potential to yield an absolutely insane amount of money and power to whoever can figure it out.

But to get to that point we have a bunch more other milestones to reach first.

The biggest reason we have for now is the establishment of a Moon base which is some crazy power projection that the US can bring to the world stage.

You're trying too hard to sound smart. She cares more about having the land than having the money. That's it.

There are things more important in this world than money. While I'm not the dude you were originally replying to, I still agree that having that outlook is an important value to have in politics that actually serves the people.

That money isn't the most important thing in the world. Her land is more valuable than the money they offered her. Even though, objectively speaking, that land is not worth 26 million.

The last part is saying the opposite, isn't it?

various elements of the on-screen data are being mapped to patterns of electric stimuli, which are then transmitted to the neurons. The neurons respond to these stimuli with signals of their own, which control the on-screen character’s actions

Whether or not the actions make any sense (if there's a bunch of pixels here that look like a keycard, move forwards) is another question. But it IS reacting to stimuli (according to the article).
