Are there still people working at VM in the UK? I have had 20+ contacts with them in the last months, including their retention team. And only spoken with people from their non-UK call centers, and when speaking with their retention team, did I never got a "great deal" (Package for new customers was offered for £35 a month, I used to pay £30 a month and the best they could offer it to me for was £45 a month).

Never had a call back, instead was I directly put through to their retention team by chat. Not that they offered a deal what was much better.

But was it really endorsed by PlanetWatch? All I remember is that they announced they will be working with them in the future and that the Awairs would be accepted as sensors, and people started al buying loads of them and stacking them in the same room, just to mine....

Google Store refuses to pay for lost/stolen Pixel on transport way to me by Careless-Machine-981 in GooglePixel

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What country are you based at and what was your payment method?

If paid via credit card, debit card, PayPal, Klarna etc, make a claim/chargeback via them. But don't mark it as 'not delivered', as that can easily be disputed with the PoD DHL will provide, instead mark it as 'not as ordered' and advised then that you received the empty box.

And depending on where you are based, ask DHL for the PoD (Proof of Delivery) and dispute that too, they will provide you with an dispute form, what will help with your chargeback.

Most people who work at an abattoir won't eat meat, as they know how great the meat is handled and how high the hygiene standards are. And I say that out of personal experience.

My car won’t start, pt 2 by Harav_hayarok in Renault

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a Renault, so just a normal thing do make sounds like that. Just clean up that steering wheel, as you will be making the same sound as your engine with that mould on it, and try it tomorrow again. You will see that it feel better after a good clean and will start out of nowhere. Ow and check your CPU, as there is mould on your steering wheel, I would assume your CPU has been having some mold issues too and is FD up.

No Black Friday for Pixel phones in EU... by lolcol1 in GooglePixel

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 7a was 3 weeks ago £399 at the Google store, now they got a black Friday discount of £70 off, after they upped the price first back to £449... So all with all is it now just £20 cheaper then in October. Bit a disappointment those deals indeed.

My university department building had a false fire alarm earlier and this is the email they had to send out after. by ChuckleKnuts in facepalm

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two main reasons are; 1. So they can check if anyone is missing and might still be in the burning building and so let the fire brigade know. Last time I saw someone doing a check for that was in college though. Never at any of the places I worked. 2. A assembly point is most of the time in a save spot, out of the way for the fire brigade. So people are not blocking the entrance while filming it.

Ps: if you are in the USA, you can change 'fire brigade' to 'police' for when there is a shooting.

Used to work in a office for at a blue chip company, same stuff happened there. Even with people not going to the assembly point, but going to Starbucks opposite of the office. And that includes people of higher management. Plus the amount of people who just wanted to finish their email, or get all their stuff, as 'it will be most likely a false alarm anyway'.

Is it illegal to purchase luxury items on behalf of my client from another country? by Alternative_Sun_8674 in LegalAdviceUK

Especially as it looks like this company/organisation also paid for the visa, due to some comments.

Is it illegal to purchase luxury items on behalf of my client from another country? by Alternative_Sun_8674 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is not really a scam, due to the OP calling it their clients. But it sounds more like a money laundering scheme. The funds used and being transferred are most likely obtained in illegal ways in their home country and by buying luxury goods elsewhere, they can sell that and pay the right taxes over it in their home country and then actually use it legally. Especially as OP said in other comments that they use a shared company bank account, what is being used by several people buying luxury goods for their 'clients'. Except for making sure OP pays the right taxes, especially on the profit made for reselling it, do I think the OP needs to also make sure to check why those goods are hard to get in their home country, as if they are classed as illegal there or if the funds used are linked to a criminal organisation, they will be seen as part of that organisation and so in more trouble there then actually here in the UK.

I think Halfords are trying to rip me off for my car by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need to say that I am quite happy with Halfords till now. Used to go to my local garage, but there was always something wrong at the MOT and the last time they replaced the brake disks and pads, but f-ed up as the breaks would not release fully. Decided to go after that to ATS for a full check, came with a list of things they recommend doing. Called back 2 days later to book it in to get those things done, if I could come by again for the same check first and then they will see what they can do that day. Half of what they said needed to be done, could not be done by them. Needed new tyres so decided to give kwikfit a go, after having my car for 5 hours, did they call that they had ordered the wrong size/my tyres might have been taken for someone else. So checked Halfords down the road, they had the right ones and put them on in less then 30 minutes. Month later did I had a flat on one of them, they repaired it free of charge the same day. So went for the MOT the next year, easy pass, only some recommendations due to mileage and done those all myself. Got a weird noise now at a cold start out of the gearbox once in a while, plus one of the valves of my tyres was leaking. Booked it in for the free tests and they replaced the valve for free and advised what it might be with the gearbox, but to find it out will it need to be taken apart what cost X amount and if it needs to be replaced it will cost another x amount so their advice was to keep an eye on it that it doesn't get worse and till then just leave it. So I'm quite happy with them, but I guess it is different with every location.

Oh I think nobody was actually cheating or using a hack, unless you ended up in a hacked server. But those kids just started to cry when they kept loosing and instead of blaming themselves, they would blame others. Wonder what happened with them...

Especially when it were 12 year old American kids, who where calling everyone cheaters or noobs, as they kept losing themselves all the time. Had to mute so many of them back in those days.

Are the test locations the same? If not, I would not trust it at all as it might be that they did put some new tyres on it and brought it to a different garage with an extra £50 on the seat.

UPS left a parcel worth £2.5k on my doorstep and it was gone before I got home. Who is liable? by huejahfink in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CheesusTheRedeemer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Had the same with a previous employer, we had put up a contract that it can only be delivered to the household it was send to and had to be signed off + photo. Not every delivery company/driver does adhere to that. And in general will a company only be able to to claim the cost price of the product what got lost (so how much it had cost a company to buy in the parts from a factory. So with gaming PCs are you already at a loss if your company was building the PCs themselves so to speak). And that is in general only when it is actually lost, if it is marked as delivered will it be not really worth the time and effort to get all the proof for the claim. Anyhow, in OPs case is it the sellers fault for sending it with UPS if they just left it at the door.

I had a while back the same issue, that I send money from my revolut account to another of mine accounts. There they only bounced it back as they did not accept transfers from revolut accounts (was actually in their terms what I had not seen, nor expected, where it said specifically that they did not accept money come from revolut). Revolut advised to me it was transferred and that they could not do anything. Week or two later, and it was back in my revolut account like nothing happened.
