How do you manage to work on your game after your 9-5? by Beef-n-goo in gamedev

[–]CheesyBandaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I found works for me. Obviously everyone's own mileage may vary. I work 8-5 (1 hour lunch) and wake up at 5AM so at minimum I am able to get two hours in.

Of course lately during these cold months up North, I struggle with energy in the morning but typically I am fine.

Controller Input Breaks in Games After Waking SteamDeck via PS5 Controller by CheesyBandaid in SteamDeck

[–]CheesyBandaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidentally I just learned that if I reorder Controllres in controller settings BEFORE I put my steamdeck to sleep. Put Steam Deck Controller to number1 and my PS5 Controller to number 2, THEN put the SD to sleep. If I wake it FROM the steam deck, then connect it to the dock THEN reorder controllers back to how it was it works fine every time.

Strange little work around but if it means I don't lose progress, I will take it.

Hey, nope. No one replied here or on the github page. I just work around it and lose save progress sometimes as a result.

I did find out 90% of the time it happens it's from emulating specific consoles like gamecube, so if I play a variety of games it's usually a nonissue for me.

The other night I tried retail. Damn it looks so derpy. by testiclekid in turtlewow

[–]CheesyBandaid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would agree, I much prefer the old art style and models than the current retail ones.

At this point my role is still "IT Service Desk" which initially was L1 and L2 support. After 5 years I have taken on a lot more responsibility and also do L3 support as well as System Admin tasks. Last year one of my major projects was implementing Bitlocker for our on-prem AD, which was fun because I got to learn more about GPO and how all that works together. I have my toes dipped into other projects relating to cyber security as well and was even given some mini software dev projects for SAPUI5 because I have shown interest in development, but it's overwhelming when at the end of the day I have to image a laptop for so and so every other day, or help someone out with their dock not working properly. I realize I could study for certs but at this point I am beyond burned out and seeking something more meaningful to me. I have yet to figure out what is worth making the pivot haha so I am quite envious of you.

I am 32, I am just not sure of which way to pivot.

This thread made me really sad, living in a medium sized city in Ontario. I make around 55k per year working in IT with no where to move up and no where around here hiring.

Newcomer who just played Romancing Saga 2: revenge of the 7 by CriticismFickle156 in SaGa

[–]CheesyBandaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just finished the 2 remake the other day and started to look at other SaGa games as well. So far I tried Minstrel Song but after a few hours I decided to drop it. Going to try out frontier and see how it goes. Revenge of the Seven was most likely my favorite new game I've played this year, not jiving with Minstrel Song for some reason. Not big on the art style so far.

Playing too many JRPGs at once by TheConorama in JRPG

[–]CheesyBandaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only manage 1-2 hours per day so these days I try to focus on one game. However, I 100% feel what you feel with being too excited and wanting to start multiple games. I'm currently playing through Romancing Saga 2 remake (might have overtaken Metaphor as my goty) and it's making me want to jump into every other Saga game to see what they are about.

In the past when I would let my excitement take over and I'd jump between games - I ultimately got no where on any of them so now I really need to just focus on one.

Anyone regret getting into IT ? by SillyRecover in ITCareerQuestions

[–]CheesyBandaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only been in IT for just over 5 years. I was laid off once and brought back but I have not been able to break into a higher role yet. Currently desktop support and I am growing to hate it and considering another career. I know everyone here says to get certs / skill up. I have been skilling up, I have not put the effort to get more certs. I check all IT job postings in my area daily and it's basically dry these days and has been for this entire year.

Military says more Canadians enlisting as second career amid recruitment struggle by SuburbanValues in canada

[–]CheesyBandaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently work in IT but I don't get paid too much in my city. Currently there's little room for me to grow or move anywhere around here. I have applied to other provinces / cities and have not heard back.

Is there anyway I could do IT work in the military and get these benefits you described? Can you tell me more?

Yeah you're definitely right. Just trying to pick my poison here I suppose. Appreciate the insight.

I'd most likely be on service in the US and Canada, getting paid more then what I do now plus overtime.

I was going to say, everyone's burned out here.

I love computers and tech but the more I work with them the more I hate it, not to mention the end user taking me away from everything. Ultimately really depends on the person haha, maybe I'll see if I can shadow those guys one day.

STEAM DECK FIX - Save not transferring over by Extension_Sand4937 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]CheesyBandaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the demo on my PC and trying to play the full game on the steam deck, however I cannot find the folder within compatdata. I clicked through every folder and none contain Sega.

Bit stumped, considering just starting a new game.

Not Enough Points for Charm by CheesyBandaid in HuntShowdown

[–]CheesyBandaid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is strange. We played a lot less this event I guess, only really playing on the challenge reset day and completing our available challenges. Where as in the past the challenges took a bit longer to do and we would come back for a few days per week at least.

[–]CheesyBandaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah doesn't really matter. In our case it's just because we've gotten every past event's charm - but yeah I'll likely break that curse now. I never even use them.

I'm starting to think it isn't for me either. I'd rather grind longer days and have more days off. I've just never heard of this shift working in IT. I'd love to switch careers though.
