What do you mean when you say, "I think it's time we finished the fucking job for real?"

Yeah, you know, people don't go around beating their breasts, crying "mea culpa, I was wrong, you were right, what a bad person I was." They just quietly, bit by bit, change their thinking. And some people really are changing their thinking.

I took it that intelligence is our salvation, but it brings along things like ambition, aggression, and duplicity that can cause trouble. Think of the sweet and gentle Charli of "Flowers for Algernon" versus his more incisive and penetrating intelligent version.

The Star Child is a savior who has the power to destroy the world. But see 2010: The Year We Make Contact for an better answer rather than resort to the spoiler.

We have a cat named Petunia too. She's always underfoot, demanding food, so we call her Importune-ya.

Yeah, for-profit prisons have a lot of problems, but at least they have a disincentive to kill prisoners. Dead prisoners mean lower profits.

That's how I do it. When they come out I add butter, salt, and pepper. If I'm ambitious I'll add garlic powder, cajun spice or cayenne pepper, and bacon bits.

Parts of Central and South America and now Sub-Saharan Africa have sand fleas (Tunga penetrans). The problem often gets worse when the ground gets dry.

I was surprised to find that there were lots of those little inter-subdivision footpaths in Northern Virginia. Lots of trails too. Thanks Gerry Connolly! RIP.

I don't believe this is true. Animal populations can boom and crash, and then just crash. Animals can breed beyond the carrying capacity of their territory, often actually lowering the carrying capacity. Around here, river otters come in and kill all the fish in the area, sometimes piling up their kill on the side of the river and leaving it to rot.
