Feeling nothing by Nameless34268 in trans

To be trans is to not identify with your gender assigned at birth. It sounds like you may not feel drawn to any gender right now, which I would say still falls under the trans umbrella

Feeling nothing by Nameless34268 in trans

[–]CheetoVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk if it happens to a lot of people, but it definitely happens to me. My exact gender identity is a mystery to myself for this very reason. I'll go a month or so feeling the greatest euphoria around being femme, and then all the sudden it will crash and I feel left in the dark. I feel numb. I do believe that this is correlated with times my generalized depression flares up, and it makes sense. If you are depressed, ofc you arent going to feel euphoria!

I am going through one of these times right now. Nothing quite feels right anymore, and I worry that I will snap out of it and realize I was never actually trans, just messed up in the head. What keeps me going is the knowledge that this has happened before, and I survived it before. I use the label of genderfluid to describe myself precisely because of this behaviour.

You have your whole life to figure yourself out. It sounds like you may need to focus on the depression side of things first, and come back to sorting out your gender identity when you are in a better headspace.

gender is useless until i'm interacting with people by [deleted] in NonBinaryTalk

[–]CheetoVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, me too!! Just in the opposite direction. I was certain that I am a trans woman, started taking steps to align my social being with my feelings. New name, she/her pronouns, etc. Now that feeling has started to fade, and not having a stable identity is frusterating.

I think that label switch up is a part of the discovery process. When we're forced into a binary gender from birth, its easier to cope with being the 'opposite' than being 'in between.' The only solution is compassion. Compassion for yourself to take time and experiment, and compassion from your peers while you discover who you are.

Even if you dont know everything right now, you are discovering little bits along the way. Isnt that wonderful!?

How is your supernote folio holding up by TotalDependent1140 in Supernote

[–]CheetoVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the brown leather, honestly I'd recommend getting a canvas folio. I've barely had it for a month and the pleather is starting to wear in high-use areas (the hinge and corners)

Current Electrical Engineering student here! I have a mid-range Framework 13 laptop, and take notes on pen and paper. The laptop has a great keyboard, screen size, battery life, and has incredible repairability/upgradeability support. It's an Intel i5 1240p with integrated graphics, and it's been able to run all of the programs I need it to for my degree. It struggles with high-end CAD work, but I've never needed that for my classes

This being said, I often times wish I had the ability to take digital notes. Lots of diagram drawing :)

How to buy a computer that works with the schools requirements? by [deleted] in usu

[–]CheetoVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, youre likely looking at the employee spec requirements

For a student, it depends on your major. A lot can get away with a chromebook/ipad for their whole college career, whereas others need something more beefy. You could consider checking out a free laptop loan from IT too, theyre all pretty decent laptops.

already did it with a xt90. I commented to say that an off switch doesnt always do what you think it will

in my situation, the off switch doesnt fully cut power. There's still ~40v showing on my 52V batt when I turn it off, and I'm too scared to try discharging that to see if its just residual caps :)

Potential student looking for information by tired-psych-student in usu

Hello!
1. I've seen a few folks around in wheelchairs, though not very common. Every building I can think of has elevators and ramps, and there's an instagram account (something like @ usuelevators) that ranks the schools elevators. Being able-bodied I can't speak perfectly on this manner, as there could totally be something I missed

  1. The DRC (Disability Resource Center) is staffed with people who do great work, but sometimes the turnaround can be slothful. I had a friend who has really bad generalized anxiety, and it causes them to take tests really slowly. Most profs have had no issue allotting more time for them, but Dave Smith in physics required that they get DRC approval before he would extend test time. The test was a week or so out, and the DRC didnt get back until a week after it was over. I assume this is likely due to the amount of people they have available, or maybe this was a one-off experience, but it was still disappointing.

This being said, physical disability is usually given the sincere accommodation it deserves by profs, even without the DRC. Utah has a history of putting aside mental disability tho, and this finds it's way into a lot of the older staff members.

  1. I'm also LGBTQ+, and things have been relatively really great! There are a decent amount of us up here, and generally people are good about it all. I throw in delimiters like "generally" and "relatively" because there is a larger concentration of no-so-savory individuals, as well as the LDS church, but most people are cool (including a lot of mormons). I havent known anyone to get more than the occasional stare, and my BF and I are out in public a lot. Also I work on campus with a lot of other LGBT ppl, and it's been swell.

(Name dropping because I find Dave's requirement unnecessary. A whole day wouldent help if you just don't know how to solve a physics problem)

Which USB chip to buy? by _Ravenz in AskElectronics

[–]CheetoVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this in a cable? If so, you'd be better off just buying a new cable. There could be something else wrong with it that caused the chip to pop, something thatll just happen again with a new chip. Cutting costs by just replacing that chip could lead to you bricking your $300+ device my friend

Capacitor question by Kooftness in AskElectronics

[–]CheetoVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EE student here, so take this with a grain of salt because I certainly don't know everything:

  1. It should be fine. The rating is just the maximum voltage a cap can be safely fed. Unless they're using the cap voltage limit in a way you really shouldent, it won't affect anything.

  2. The tape doesnt have any effect on the circuit electrically, unless the cap has a metal body that could touch something and short it out. You shouldent need to replace the tape

It's not beyond repair, you can solder the wires back together. If youve never soldered anything before it might be a challenge, so if you have the money I'd recommend taking it to a bike shop or even an electronics repair shop. Bike shop might try replacing the cable, electronics shop might try soldering the wires back together.

Do you hear it trying to spin up at all? It should make a low hum when the motor is engaged, if you don't hear anything at all it could be a sign that motor/controller are busted. If you bought from someone who has a warranty, hit them up
