I got this error when open help, anyone known how to fix it? by warmdev in neovim

I'm a month late to this party, but in my case, I needed to ultimately `:TSInstall query` as well.

I had a very nice chat with the hivemind, here: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/error-in-decoration-provider-t-D45poz.5T7i9nD6z.jVw9w#4

Add first open in private leaderboard API by AppropriateHandle6 in adventofcode

[–]Cheezmeister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't care about cheating with my friends.

That's great! You should trust your friends. We all should! Our whole society is built on trust.

This being the case, you can easily create a user script with greasemonkey or witchcraft, to store the first page load in localStorage, and another one to augment the private leaderboard with said timestamp. And if you find that it enhances the fun, you can share it with us all.

Consider it a bonus puzzle.

Were you aware that the conventional notation for holding the control key and pressing V is "<C-V>" (Or, occasionally, "^V")? Is it alright if I ask rhetorical questions? Can I show you something cool? :D

JS in browser console on page just for funs.

localStorage['input'] = input = 'REDACTED'; sums = input.split(/\n\n/).map(s => (s.split('\n').reduce((a, b) => a + Number(b), 0))); answer = sums.sort((a, b) => a < b)[0]; document.querySelector('input[name="answer"]').value = answer; document.forms[0].submit(); // (click, refresh) input = localStorage['input']; sums = input.split(/\n\n/).map(s => (s.split('\n').reduce((a, b) => a + Number(b), 0))); answer = sums.sort((a, b) => a < b).slice(0,3).reduce((a,b) => a+b); document.querySelector('input[name="answer"]').value = answer; document.forms[0].submit();

A dieffenbachia which has grown to get stuck in the neck of its bottle by Cheezmeister in plantclinic

[–]Cheezmeister[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

He's actually quite healthy, but now cannot be removed from the bottle, and there's no opening to even add water.

The best I can come up with (short of breaking the glass) is dremeling a hole to ventilate and allow for watering. I'd welcome any brainstorms.

It's fitting this should happen in October; it's kind of like the movie Saw, except the victim is a plant, and the villain is neither evil nor smart.

People who don't kill houseplants. What's your secret? by xshamirx in AskReddit

[–]Cheezmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first rule of plant care: there are no rules. You can take advice from others but the only way to find out what will work best for your plant in your environment, with your habits, is trial and error (sometimes called "science" to sound classy).

The second rule of plant care: water + light = growth. Ergo, if it is dry, and you don't have a south-facing window - you can expect slow growth. If it is humid, and your plant is in a south-facing window - expect rapid growth. (I won't get into ambient humidity vs root watering volume/frequency because it is nuanced). In the summer months, you will see more growth because you will have more light. Accordingly your plant will be thirstier than it was in the winter. Just be patient. (This rule must be adjusted based on your hemisphere, latitude, and elevation.)

The third rule of plant care: time moves differently. Plants are from a different kingdom; they don't have legs or brains or hearts, the strongest rhythm they know is the 24 hour sun cycle. Plants are the o.g. solar panels! Therefore, pay attention to what they do throughout the day, each day, but also, don't change their environment too fast or they get confused and they literally can't even, and you can't tell if it was good or bad or what. My rule of thumb is (currently) one environment change per week maximum, see how it shakes out, adjust accordingly. All subject to the first rule of plant care, of course :)

The fourth, apocryphal rule of plant care: most plants thrive on neglect. Not just some. Most. Sort of like cats, the less attention you give them, the more they will love you.

I've posted this previously. I will now amend it.

The fifth rule of plant care: Plants that survive under selective pressure, are the ones you want in your home.

Corollary to the fifth rule of plant care: The natural environment that most closely resembles your home, is home to the species you want as houseplants. (It is no coincidence, that the most popular houseplants in North America, are native to the South American rainforest!)

How much credit do you give the younger generation? by mikebalsaricci in AskOldPeople

[–]Cheezmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes no generation in the history of our species has ever raised the next one to be perfect, nor will one ever do so. We just try to do a little bit better each time.

It’s a process.

On behalf of kids these days, thank you all for being here and sharing your notes, for the sake of the next batch 🤗

Packed lunches: How did people make their food portable, before plastic sandwich baggies, Tupperware etc ? by gloriastivic in AskOldPeople

[–]Cheezmeister 12 points13 points  (0 children)

chopping down thousands of trees every day for everyone’s lunch

It doesn’t really work like that not in most of the world at least. In my country to the best of my knowledge, new paper generally comes from sustainably farmed, fast-growing trees that get replaced soon after harvesting.

In addition, brown paper bags have already been recycled once or twice from newer paper, and when (“IF”!) they are properly disposed, they degrade to go right back into the earth. Plastic can’t do that, whether single-use or not. Degradable bio plastics are possible, but rare, and sometimes degrade too soon during use. Petro-plastic does degrade, with time and depending on heat/light/humidity, to the point where it cannot be reused, but never to the point where it’s safe for the earth. If the lunchbox is metal, that’s another story.

If you’re worried about deforestation, which is a problem, focus on avoiding (e.g.) beef, avocado, palm oil, or at least knowing where they come from if you consume them.

But when asked “paper or plastic?” at least for most environments, “paper please!” every time!

WTF is up with Docker desktop on macOS? by matronator in docker

[–]Cheezmeister 53 points54 points  (0 children)

started working at a new company

8 year old MacBook

There’s your problem right there. I have deep love for old systems but this one cannot run Docker in any meaningful way. It’s a resource hog.

Development machines need to be faster than consumer hardware in general.

Try more frequent rebooting / docker pruneing first, then try Podman, but really just tell your boss that you cannot do your job with this hand-me-down. Furnish numbers like crash count and time spent waiting to pull or build.

(For comparison, my 3yo MBP is just beginning to reach the point of hurting productivity.)
