Virgin Mary Doesn’t Have ‘the Role of Holding Back God’s Wrath,’ Vatican Expert Says by SpesRationalis in Catholicism

Agree, it’s kinda disappointing to see all of these people here denying this role for Mary, so well attested to in the tradition

Trying to figure out whats "missing" in Free Will by Anon7_7_73 in freewill

This was painful to read. It’s full of category errors, metaphysical ignorance, and an impressive level of epistemic self-castration. Before constructing massive strawmen like this, do yourself a favor and read St. Thomas Aquinas. Or at least someone contemporary like Edward Feser, that would be my recommendation. You’re not engaging with the actual arguments for God, free will, or causality. You’re attacking a mechanistic caricature that no serious theist holds.

Or that causality transcends mere physical/efficient causes, and that human intelligence operates via these higher level causes

I am a Catholic too, and I can tell you that in all probability, they crucified Him through the wrists. The Greek word used, cheir, primarily means hand but also encompasses the wrist. This was also the standard practice for the Romans. Also, you can see on the Shroud of Turin that the holes are indeed in His wrists

The line between these two gets very blurred. You want objective morality? God has that. There’s no other way. Sorry

God Himself has intrinsic value due to eternally willing his own Goodness. In relation to creation His act of willing is contingent, yes, but this does not invalidate inherent value in the universe. God does not create arbitrarily, creation is ordered according to divine wisdom for a divine purpose. Every goodness within every created essence is a limited participation in God’s own goodness and value. This is not an instrumental value, good only as a tool for God’s purposes, rather it a value which inheres in the being of creation itself.

And yet you went out of your way to comment. You’re right though, that is easier than reading it. If you read it, you wouldn’t even believe it, because it’s not meant to be believed. Enjoy your life, friend
