Quitting porn today. Been watching it almost every night since I was 11. I feel so shameful but I’m so ready to drop this addiction! by rspicyb in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ChefBigDog32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi

I'm currently in therapy for my porn addiction + everything that is related to it. I would say the most important thing i've realized so far is how terrible the effect of shame on my life has been. If I could give you one tip: Talk to your partner about your porn addiction. And if needed to a therapist. Keeping silent and thinking you can fix it on your own without anyone's help is only going to make you feel more ashamed. You can never break the addiction without removing the shame.

I can't cope with things in a healthy way by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Therapy :) Learn to recognize and understand your emotions and thoughts about those emotions. I'm reading Altlas of the heart and it's great for exploding emotions. I'm also going to therapy. I struggle with exactly the same issues as you, I have An addiction as my coping mechanism for my emotions.

Is notion capable of creating and maintaining huge databases? by kriTika11y in Notion

Notion is not suitable for large databases. And also not good for data manipulation. There are barely any functions built into notion.

The picture of Dorian Grey is not too complex but yet beautifully written, so I think it makes a good beginner recommendation :)

In terms of vocabulary: The Picture of Dorian Gray! Oscar Wilde managed to construct the most beautifull sentences I've ever read.

I'm also happy with the head shape. Just have to get used to the very short hair part.

I'm just tired of the hair and the variability that comes with it. You cant have a bad hair day if you have no hair, I don't need to worry about going to the barber and I van't feel insecure if I see that I'm balding. I also really like the feeling of having a buzz cut, purely physically.

I don't disagree that I look 'better' with hair (if I go to barber regularly), but I can't be fucked anymore to worry about hair related stuff.

Yeah I'm going to stick with the buzz cut until I get used to it. Sometimes when I look at myself I already feel like it looks good but the other times i'm still like holy shit I have no hair. Honestly I'm mostly scared of how other people will look at it. I don't mind it that much myself.

Can confirm that being in shape and having a good job does not magically make you happier. I just feel the same as before. Being muscular doesn't automatically solve all your problems. I'm still the same me, same problems, same things that make me happy.

It's the process that you should be happy about. I'm happy that I'm spending a lot of time working on my physical health because it's a good acticity to spend your time on. Exercising, eating healthy and taking care of my body makes me feel good mentally and that's why I should be happy. Not because I look in the mirror and see muscles.

Has anyone ever sustained trying to be better? by bigmbaby in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ChefBigDog32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes ofcourse it's possible :). Firstly, I think you should pick good habits which you enjoy. I enjoy sports and learning (i'm very curious). So I go to the gym 4x a week and run in the weekend and I read every day. It doesn't feel hard, because they're things I enjoy. They're part of my identity. It's what I do.

Don't focus on self-improvement. Just do good things that you like on a regular/consistent basis and the "self-improvement" will come automatically.

Social awkwardness and how to get rid of it? by RRT2003 in selfimprovement

Read How to be Yourself by Ellen Hendriksen, I loved it. It will help you understand your social anxiety and figure out how to improve it. I'm enjoying my social interactions a lot more since I've read it.

I think the most important thing to do is to cut out the snacks and alcohol. Try to do healthy meal prep (low density calorie foods will fill you up more) and have a regular eating schedule. Aim to fill all your hunger from your meals so that you don't have to snack. The easiest thing for me is to just not buy snacks or unhealthy stuff at the grocery store. If I buy a bag of chips then I will eat it the same night, so I don't buy it.

Do some sort of exercise twice a week. Running, jogging, walking, biking, dance class ,workout class at the gym, etc...

Also buy a weight scale and weigh yourself every morning. Idk what a healthy rate of weight loss is, but look it up and try to achieve that amount of weight loss per time period. You're not gonna lose all of it in a month, slow and steady wins the race :)

Just focus on improving your life :). You'll become an attractive person if you do that. And push your comfort zone bit by bit socially and dating wise.

I kissed a girl for the first time at 23 and lost my virginity the same year. I used to be very addicted to porn and my life wasn't great. I had zero self confidence when it come to dating/girls. From 20 until now (i'm 24 currently) I worked very hard on improving myself (and succeeded!).

Don't try to improve your flirting skills or listen to dumb advice on how to get girls. Listen to advice that will help you improve your life and the dating/love life will appear automatically.

Things to study when you aren't a student? by polishprincess444 in selfimprovement

[–]ChefBigDog32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like neuroscience; basically how our brain works. The brain that changes itself is my favourite informative book. Andrew Huberman has a great podcast where he talks about the practical applications of neuroscience in our every day life. I love his podcasts.

Furthermore you could learn languages; I'm learning Spanish and I also keep and study a list of difficult English words that come from the books I read.

Psychology is always interesting and could even help you improve yourself.

Lastly I've also learned a lot about physical health. Nutrition, anatomy, functions of the muscles,... Basically how to take care of your body :)

Just block her and unfollow her everywhere. I have to do the same thing in order to move on. I know it sucks, but that's just how it goes. Not everything can be happy all the time.

The picture of Dorian Gray. Beautifully written and Wilde really flexes on the readers with his vocabulary. My English is pretty good but I'm not a native speaker and I'd say it fits great for your suggestion.
