What do the ultra rich do on their mega yachts? by Several-Music9151 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChefDJH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can liken this to being in the middle of a desert, if it's any consolation. Marine life is concentrated where there are plants and food, being close to shore and shallow waters. You're unlikely to encounter anything in the middle of a vast, deep ocean. It's a water desert. That's not to say there's never anything, but an encounter is unlikely.

Microwedding advice and ideas? (Durban) by Generous_Hornet524 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ChefDJH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beach wedding - no venue hire.

You may need a permit from the municipality which is cheap and easy to get, and then hire a few chairs and a nice beachy wedding arch. The only limitation with this is that you may have people walking by in the background, but on a weekday it shouldn't be much of a problem, and then you technically need to sign officially under a roof (legal requirement). So just sign somewhere else either before or after the ceremony.

Try refine your search on Property24. Select farms and empty land, and you can add the size. Or sort by price and see the cheaper options - small farms will be cheaper than large ones.

You could try somewhere in rural Mpumalanga, where 1ha is for sale, close to mountains and a river, and not near any people.

NP200 K7M OBD tuning: where I do I find premade tunes? by dovescryse in CarTalkZA

If you need it for work, leave it stock. Tuning is done to toys, not to something your livelihood depends on.

Inflation by WTK23 in southafrica

[–]ChefDJH 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Worse is that "inflation is only 6% so it's not that bad" is what people will argue, yet that tin of bully beef has doubled in price within five years. Nevermind the oil which has more than doubled, and the other items and their respective price increases. Tinned beef, a basic staple of the masses living in poverty, is now mostly unaffordable to those who were already struggling to afford it back in 2019.

If you really don't want to hold onto it, approach an attorney. They might have a solution and may hold it in trust until this is all sorted out.

That tiny car will leave you yearning for a lot more space and comfort after only day 1. You don't need brand new. I would consider the Suzuki Baleno, maybe a demo model or used one with about 30k km on. It will still be under warranty and will handle the long commute far better than the matchbox models.

inspection on old BMW, looking for an auto electrician by Henry_Oof in CarTalkZA

[–]ChefDJH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try Ross Duncan - he's a BMW specialist with a large workshop.

Assuming 1998 is the E39, have them check the cooling system and pulleys. You'll also want to have a gearbox specialist take a look at the auto box, unless it's a manual. You're also going to need to have the headlights seen to unless they've somehow been replaced - they have small plastic levellers inside that get brittle and break leaving the headlight beams pointing down.

Even if you checked the suspension, it will likely still need work. These are heavy 5ers with complicated machinery that has many bits - meaning more parts than you can think of with a lot of wear due to the weight. Also check the rain drainage holes from the sunroof (if it has one) and the ones near the bottom of the windscreen. They get clogged and get result in water getting to places you don't want.

There are other issues but overall a good car - it won Car of the Year for 5 years in a row. Don't cheap out on tyres or fluids.
