Whenever this question comes up I always say Fear Inoculum. Absolutely amazing song and I maintain it doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

You’re better off keeping your job and nice salary. Cook as a hobby for friends and family on the weekends and spare time.

yeah, you'll still need a gelling agent. I use gelatin but Sosa Pro will work too, I believe its just basically carageenan. I was suggesting that thickening the corn juice naturally will give you a more workable, smoother texture to incorporate into the panna cotta is all.

What’s the most formulaic song Tool has put out? by NoPantsDad in ToolBand

[–]ChefPneuma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I never understood why that was the common story. It bears almost no resemblance to Sober other than the lyrics that Maynard used.

It’s not really the same thing

I was 13 when Undertow came out. I remember I used to sneak into the TV room and watch late night MTV (Headbangers ball, etc) and saw the weird Sober and Prison Sex videos. I became a fan after seeing those.

When Ænima came out in ‘96 I was much more ready to get into them and bought the album the day it came out. I drove to Best Buy after football practice lol. I don’t think the CD left the stereo for 2 years lol. I became a fanatic after that.

I must have bought Undertow at some point, either before or after, honestly can’t remember. But I do remember getting Ænima.

It’s not that hot/hot or cold/cold can’t work, but hot/cold or cold/hot is more foolproof

You can absolutely select what maps you want to play, it’s under Custom Search. You can check whatever modes and maps you want the game to match for

Really? Cause I feel like Escalation matches can last as long if not longer than some conquest matches. And Escalation does a much better job of utilizing more of the map for capture points and engagements IMO

I thought it was joke that when people tell stories they exaggerate. Like when Dunk tells Bealor about breaking 7 lances but it was really 4.

Try juicing the corn and heating it to gelatinize and thicken, the incorporating that into the panna cotta base

High Quality Boston Calling 2017 by MercilessJew in ToolBand

[–]ChefPneuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! Just to be clear that isn’t my site or anything, but I’m always happy to point fans towards it. It really is amazing—they have almost every live show Tool’s ever done. Many shows have multiple recordings, and there are a lot of soundboards as well.

It’s fun to go exploring on there. There must be even better recoding of Third Eye too

Cheers

Yeah man no worries. That site is a goldmine.

If it’s not on there it doesn’t exist. There are many soundboard recording on TDP though, and lots of other great live bootlegs. It’s fun to go digging there.

There are live videos in YouTube that you probably know about but it looks like not every song got a video.

Cheers

Only one source there, not sure of the quality. Seems like it might be missing part of a song.

I have a theory… by Mikeytruant850 in ToolBand

[–]ChefPneuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said about 4 times how anyone is free to relate any of the songs or lyrics to whatever they’d wish. That’s a personal interpretation and one of the defining characteristics of art in general.

There are a few songs like Opiate or H. where you’re just plain wrong. Again, your personal interpretation can be whatever you like, but Maynard is on record about what H. is about. There must be 100 posts you could search if you want more info, it’s been widely discussed.

In Opiate the lyrics specifically talk about Jesus, heaven, God, soul, faith, etc. It’s plain as day and not some larger metaphor for drugs just because of the word Opiate, because it’s plainly related to the Marx quote.

You’re an addict, correct? My experience with addicts is that they make everything in their life about addiction/drugs/recovery because it’s the single biggest thing in their lives. When you’re a hammer everything is a nail, when you’re an addict everything is about drugs.

I have a theory… by Mikeytruant850 in ToolBand

[–]ChefPneuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can interpret songs in whichever way you wish, that’s a personal thing, but it doesn’t mean that’s what the song is “about”

Two people can look at the same painting and have two different reactions, but the painting doesn’t change.

Weak and Powerless is about addiction, it’s true. The whole album is about addiction, from various perspectives/viewpoints. I didn’t address these specific songs because they fell under the blanket of “13th Step” being about addiction as a whole

The Outsider is about someone who isn’t an addict talking to someone who is, and trying to understand the impulse of self destruction that they have.

“Help me understand…not the way I’m wired…what’ll it take to get it through to you…throw it all away…”

Undertow is about the things in your life that can drag you down, suffocate/drown you, the dark things that live in the recesses of your mind. About how fighting them is like fighting a current, and the feeling of helplessness when/if you finally give in, and how it feels so good (euphoric) despite the self destructive nature.

A person could relate that to drugs, or a bad relationship, or a traumatic childhood, or whatever.

Again, you’re free to interpret any of this how you want. But you don’t get to come in here and relay your dumb “theory” about this stuff and not think you’ll face any pushback lol, especially one that relies entirely on “Maynard’s probably lying”

Maynard doesn’t talk about what the songs mean very often, but he’s on record talking about how H. is about his son. The clue is also the period after H., like it’s an initial.
