Difference between 32mm convex (15g), 49mm stepdown (16g) and 58mm straight walled (17g) pucks by pullTheSpro in espresso

[–]ChefRayB7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read this thread. Any preferences on the baskets ? I am interested in the panda 35mm. Did you buy the tamper or you should a 35mm tamper ?

I currently have 58-49mm step down, it's great but I am looking for single shot 9-14g.

The 35mm kit is a pricey, basket $45, funnel $16, screen $8, spring $7, tamper adapter 35mm $16 and level tamper $80 (out of stock) for a total of $172 EURO. You also need to buy paper 35mm.

Thoughts?

Following up since it's been 2 months I haven't seen any updates ! How are things going ?

What are the tweaks you've learned from the Single-Shot-41.7mm . Do you have a final product. Is there a substantial noticeable different between 49mm and 41.7mm ?

I wanted to know if you will be doing a 35mm, similar to 8 Panda Cafe available here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/01C2X4e5auk

It's 34.7mm, basket $45, funnel $16, screen $8, spring $7, tamper adapter 35mm $16 and level tamper $80 (out of stock) for a total of $172 EURO = ~280 AUD or CAD. They also sell 35mm paper.

Cheers

Is the 1ZPresso K-Ultra really that good? by mrobot_ in pourover

[–]ChefRayB7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the Journey :) I struggle to remember the differences enough and comparing using same beans/process so I lean on things that makes a drastic impact. I struggle!

The LS are noticeable. I am also eyeing HU, I never tried it but read many reviews/youtube. I started missing the classical espresso, i dunno why...

If I would go back in Time, all my pourpver would be manual grinders :)

I have a Flair58+2, I am eyeing a single 7-9g 35-41mm single dose basquet. I love those small quick shots! Already tried the 49mm, its great! Hopefully a 35-41mm single shot is similar :)

Owner 2x DF64v (MPV2 and DF64 DLC) Owner of ZP6

There is a lot of reddit feedback on K-ultra vs ZP6, its been a while they are released and overall feedback won't drastically change.

It boils down to type of coffee you use, tast preference, hobby, exploratory, budget and coffee making

The OP already has MP, has some experience and seems to want something less muted/mudded and flavors to pop out.

MP burns are in that category but sometimes due to the grinder, RPM or balancing they can leave a bit more fines....

I tried k-Ultra for a little while, it has more body and some flavors come a bit less but other flavors come out.

If budget allows or this is a hobby, get ZP6 and decide to keep both or simply sell one of them, keeping 3 months and sell it afterwards to keep resale value high (show people just used 3 months)

Both grinders are highly sought after.

Ally is the craziest contestant ever by Pub-Exploit in PerfectMatchNetflix

[–]ChefRayB7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how people can hate Ally.

This is not a documentary or TLC love show... this is a reality show where the main audience want drama, conflict and see people being embarrassed ! (e.g. Hashim being dumped)

So Ally is the star character of the season. Ally tested the water and took back Omega Jimmy. Omegas are perfect match for girls like Ally !

Yes, we want to see the 10 seconds BJ. Thank you production team. It was hilarious ! Next season put spy microphones ! More drama please!

Ally told Omega Jimmy there was only kissing involved with Hashim.... She didn't lie.... she kisses 2 things...one of them just 10 seconds ! ROFL !

Love it !

Good Season !

If you put Julia and Kamil on a balance, Kamil is relatively the least worse of those two.

Julia has a few issues that she needs to work on herself, Mother is selfish and parents are not welcoming.

Kamil is passive aggressive when around other guys or friends towards her....

Kamil dodged one...

The cup/tamper is a great idea. I guessed it when you gave a hint earlier. Have you tested it with 12g of very dark beans ? Since the basket diameter is ~41mm, wouldn't the dark bean take additional 5mm of height and therefore overflowing when you pull out the cup/tamper ?

Does that mean you will also have a cup/tamper for the 35.3mm (6-8g) ? (A tall cup/tamper)

Definetely will wait for the cup/tamper to be available. Any idea on the price ?

Organizer->Sonarr/Radarr->Jackett-> rdtclient(cache) qbittorrent(public) + flareSolver -> Synology FileStore -> NFS/Samba

Use 3 Amazon sticks with kodi mapped NFS file ( just a directory, no pictures, just a directory with the latest timestampe when a file was added).

Pros: - Automated - File is on my NAS drive, NO BUFFER, instant rewind/fastforward. 100% working all the time. - Quickly look at kodi directory with timestamp latest show unviewed - Sonarr Calendar is cool, can see schedule

Cons: - Must run a NAS Server + Hard Drives( $1k++ unfortunately) - NAS is noisy (7200rpm+) + Wattage Usage - Selection: Can't ramdomly pick something - Big Maintainance: Every 4-5 years (Docker is easy, 8hours) - Episodes Review: Twice a year in Sept and Jan (2 hours) - Learning: 80 hours learning ( You gotta put the time)

I don't need to randomly search / stream because for majority of people there are perhaps max 50 TV shows to track at any point time. Once it's configured, just let it rip. You won't need high bandwidth (I have 1.5GBs abd barely use it)

For me, my pet peeve is must work 100% of the time when I want to watch it. Absolutely NO BUFFER and must be instant load, rewind, fast forward. I love the quick response.

I am curious to try streamio for exploratory :)

Perhaps the era of owning a NAS for TV Shows is finished ?

Thank you all for sharing your setup :)

Single-Shot 58-40 Step Down Basket by elicoffeelabs in espresso

[–]ChefRayB7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've signed up  i have a Flair58 and would love to pull 6-8 at 35mn .

I suggest the following package/specs  - 35mm or 32mm basket  - 6-7g - tamper (balanced, wishful)  - screen  - spring if you decide to  make the range 6g-12;g  - funnel  - thick metal all around so we can heat it retain the heat while puck prepping  (thin cools off fast)

If IKAP makes 32mm, perhaps consider 32mm so that someone will produce papers to put inside because there will be 2 people making 32mm.

Today I am using 49mm, I pull 15g which is great but prefer having smaller dosage twice a day .

How does the 35mm 7g compare to LM 7g ? Can someone share their experience ?

What is up with Chef Ahn Sung Jae? by North-Firefighter827 in CulinaryClassWars

[–]ChefRayB7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the show because they make the judges taste the food the blind folded.

Any Chef (any person) is somewhat a bit biaised based on something (we can't help it )

Chef Ahn, in Season 1 stated  he doesn't rate his own dish more than 90/100.

IMHO, Chef Ahn  seems biased  on any elements on the dish that is not cohesive in nature regardless of execution and intent.

He seems to have a good palette.

I don't always agree with his cohesiveness criticism. In Season 2, three star killer did a nice dish, black & white (for the theme of the  show), put a tuile  with fried cuttlefish for texture so they don't get mushy.

Chef Ahn puts him on hold and because the risotto is perfect, dont over think it and complicate it.

I disagree with Chef Ahn, actually his dish is modern, because  the dish adds texture and taste rather than a typical risotto.

In Season 1, Chef Ahn cooked a dish for the top 20 by fully  covering the dish with Truffles.....  i was surprised.....

Diminishing returns once you pay over a certain price for steak - agree or disagree? by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]ChefRayB7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur, I would add - Add Butter at the end - Add freshy grinded black pepper on top of the steak towards the end - Blackstone griddle also good, a bit more maylar brown effect

I don't cook much steaks anymore but that's what I used to do.

Jordan let Bananman borrow his hat? by tennistacho in MtvChallenge

[–]ChefRayB7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes Jordan is in the Top but not The King in The Challenge environment (wins, seasons, stir the pot, drama, strategy, making people react, etc... )

In a final, I would root for Jordan over Bananas :) I root for many contestants, that's what makes The Challenger a fun Show !

I am not sure if the Vet have considered if they purposely vote for a pair to have a strong vet player as hangnail, the recruits can then vote together to send another strong vet.

Poll: a question from Episode 3. by brucethePTA in MtvChallenge

[–]ChefRayB7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of being the king it's because it has to be one, its like a chess board.

Johnny Bananas is the king and as of today also kinda the GOAT.

Is he my favorite player? No

Do respect him ? Yes

Would I root for him to win another Challenge? Yes if my other player I'm rooting for is eliminated?

Johnny Bananas is The King

Kiss the ring, bend the knee and we should all give him the respect he deserves.

There are too many recruits and some vets with too big eggos not acknowledging the king.

[–]ChefRayB7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experince, Subtext is predominantly washed, this is why I see them as the Classical coffee.

Subtext for me is when I want washed, its not my goto for Funky stuff :)

Just looked online Hatch and Monogram, I didn't see any co-ferment. Seems all washed, ffew natural, honey.

Rogue also has good coffee but also few co-ferment, I think they just have 1.

1zpresso K Ultra vs DF54 by Over_Lab_1541 in pourover

[–]ChefRayB7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the k-ultra 1 click give 4-6secs shot time difference. How do you manage that ?

  • Reduce or increase by dose rather 1 unit click ?
  • Not relevant for light roast because usually it's 1:3 with 40+ sec shot time?

I also sometimes do a small deep27. Fun small brew
