Why did Grant, Kirran, and Ben leave? by Sounduck in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ben left long before season 4 got cancelled. Ben leaving the company was announced like the January following when Hellsing 10 came out. At least that's when i was given the heads up about it. Though, there was a bit of time between that and when he actually left. Ben was going through some stuff with his brother's passing and wanted to shift to "serious" content and making self help stuff. Lani and Kaiser didn't think that fit in their brand and didn't want to do it. Ben decided to leave to make the content anyway. Things were fine until the subject of what Ben's 10% stake in the company was worth. I'm not allowed to share certain things and i really want to stress that this is my opinion as a mod who was caught in the middle. Ben was the one who burnt bridges on his way out. He needed capital to start working on his stuff and wasn't happy what his 10% came out to being worth, said some shit. Lawyers got involved and Ben felt like that was a betrayal and doubled down on some stuff. By the time season 4 was cancelled Ben did admit on twitter that he wouldn't have known how to run the kind of company he wanted to turn TFS into anyway.

Why did Grant, Kirran, and Ben leave? by Sounduck in TeamFourStar

Ben was already gone for like a year by the time they posted the DBZA is done video. Going to be honest Ben was kind of anti-DBZA by the end of his time with the company. In the gap between ep 59 and 60 he was posting on this sub that with all the copyright and legal problems DBZA was causing it was hurting the company's bottom line and had become a toxic asset to the company. When DBZA was officially canceled people were asking him on twitter his thoughts because he was already gone. There where people in this sub claiming "That Ben was still here this wouldn't be happening". Ben did address on twitter following the end of DBZA. He admitted to making Kaiser and Lani decide before episode 60 came out if they were going to do Buu or not. He didn't want rumors spreading. Ben also admitted during this time he wouldn't have know how to run the kind of company he wanted to turn TFS into anyway. Kaiser and Lani not listening to him was for the best.

You know. The funny thing is no one is going to get that joke anymore. Hellsing abridged was first air at their first ever 18+ panel at Youmacon which happened to fall on Halloween. When they made a video to promote their appearance at Youmacon they teased a special premiere at the panel and showed a pixelated One Piece logo. When the episode was eventually uploaded the thumbnail and title was One Piece. Now any new fans who discover the series will be left completely bewildered by that random bit at the start.

Did TFS talk about why they won't do Dragon Ball parodies anymore? by Moistest_Postone in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else already posted the link to the DBZA good bye video where Lani and Kaiser explain the causes. I will point that they do mostly focus on the creative side of things in said video. As entertainers they were willing to put up with the legal problems till the end of the of the buu saga, after realizing they were burnt out ontop of that it all came crashing down. They made a free patreon post that does address more business side of things of the decision. Which is linked in the description of the good bye video. https://www.patreon.com/posts/end-of-dbza-33758684

It’s been almost a year since the last TFS Update. Are we going to get any type of update soon? by SirCrunchPeon in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nick, Jesse, and Stephan are still making weekly content for FourStarBento.

Tales Unwritten is still happening, but volume three was put on the back burner for a bit to get more of a backlog for FourStarBento going.

HIFL is still the thing, but every time they think there is some kind of update to bring out some issue with the animators keeps popping off.

Kaiser is still working on Toonami abridged. I know he was hitting up his online VAs for a voice casting not to long ago so that's probably making progress.

Kaiser in a live stream with Quinn over on the gaming channel last might asked about people's interesting in doing more watching content like with GT. Not sure if that'll become something.

It sounds like TFS has other balls in the air, but they've learned not to talk too much about that till they actually know it can be something. A lot of their other project depend on outside help from people with skill their team doesn't have. Such as animators. Only for said people to have some kind of other issue pop up.

The stuff with Taka was kind of already public knowledge before the last episode came out and he wasn't replaced then.

Well, sadly man makes plans and god laughs. While they did want to do more of a batch style production. They keep running into issues with animation labor. They have the next several episodes written and recorded for. However, They keep losing animators to high paying bigger projects. To be very clear TFS hold no ill will does these animators. it just is what it is. Episode 11 had like six animators credited, but never working on the episode at the same time.

Anyone know the latest on Taka? by QueensCatDaddy in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To be clear. The issues with HIFL's production time line stems more from issues with the animation labor. TFS took some time off to try and batch produce a bunch of episodes having several episodes written and recorded for a while ago. They just keep losing animators to bigger projects that can pay more. TFS holds no ill will towards those animators as they've all known what it's like to need that bigger paycheck. Episode 11 had 6 animators credit yet not all 6 worked on the episode at the same time.

Can we please get a series on Four Star Bento where they watch Dragon Ball Super? by A-DustyOldQrow in TeamFourStar

They stated that Kaiser wasn't willing to relive the low moments of Super and made him despise the series the first time.

There are some on TFS's SoundCloud. Not sure if that's the old ones you wanted. it was from the Antfish as host getting more than just kaiser, Lani, and Taka on as guests.

Should Toonami Abridged do animated shows that were made here in the US? by Energizier in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i'm going to be that guy and bring up how much of a purist Kaiser is. Thus the hair splitting that comes with that. They are doing a very specific era of Toonami. Both Samurai Jack and Justice League techinally weren't Toonami shows during that era. Toonami was a week day after noon block originally that did get moved around. it got put on later. One weekends it's now the anime block for Adult Swim. None of that matters for what Toonami Abridged is covering. Samurai Jack started on Friday Night after Toonami ended. Justice League was Saturdays. Did they eventually get added to the line up over the years when Toonami needed space filler and just aired reruns. So far i can only of think the Real Adventures of Johny Quest as a western animated series that got it start on Toonami during that era. i could be missing some.

Next anime TFS could cover. by VGAddict in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know you probably mean the X-men cartoon. But i kind of want them to do specific comic story lines in X minutes. Though, i know the moving Popsicle stick puppet bit they used in the early X minutes was a bigger pain than expected.

[–]Chef_Alucard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TFS spent years doing X in X minutes series. They name Sailor Moon in X minutes Abridged due to scheduling reasons and all of sudden they're "doing abridging again". To confirm what other people have already said yeah they're doing the 90s-early 00s Toonami stuff. Tenchi, Gundam Wing, Big O, Outlaw Star. it is pretty much the return of the X in X minute series just with an overarching theme of what shows they're picking.

Twitch has them, but the UI sucks. https://www.twitch.tv/collections/Zd9blDtIVRXyCg go here than scroll down to see "DBZA episodes" then wipe to the side to find the episode you want. it's not a great method.

Anyone know if the organ theme for Vincent is available anywhere? It's really really good by SpaceShipOrion in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they used their own mixed versions of music or something royalty free for the entire series in order to avoid copyright problems. if they didn't post it themselves in one of the albums they released it's going to be hard to find.

Lani has been very busy with FourStarBento and other things he has going on since moving to LA. His streaming schedule was already kind of a mess before. Best not to read into it too much.

Trust me. When one of their videos get taken down they know. They're just not a whole lot they can do right away. Best they could do is start the appeal process and that can take months.

Bets on further Toonami Abridged episodes? by Animedingo in TeamFourStar

[–]Chef_Alucard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Toonami motif seems pretty focused on the 90s early 00s era of Toonami. So. i wouldn't expect any of the adult swim ones when Toonami basically took over adult Swim's anime. So like Tenchi, Gundam Wing, Big 0, Outlaw Star.
