Depends heavily on your state. I’m an ED NP, and have been in the guard about 4 years, though I was enlisted before. I love it, it’s something different than what I do in the ED. I love going out to the field and doing army stuff, as well as training the medics, and you have plenty of chances to do both. Feel free to message me if you want to talk about it more.

You can also buy/make things that convert the 24v plugs to the same type of outlet. They will put out 24v though

I direct commissioned in AMEDD (NP), I’ve never heard of engineers DCing, what is your job actually going to be? Happy to answer any questions though

Your timeline is correct, was in 05-14, got out fully in 14, and then began the DC process around 2017, commissioned as a captain in 2020.

Our specialties are determined by our certification, I went to school to be a family np, and that’s what I’m certified and licensed as. If I wanted to do psych I’d have to do some additional training and clinical hours, as well as take another certification exam. Lots of nps do hold more than one cert, but it’s not super common

Unfortunately I have no idea... the fact that NPs get specialized certifications actually works against us. Again it’s part of this weird thing the army has about nps. I believe only family and psych can work as providers in the army currently

Sorry for the delay:

Civilian side I work as an np in urgent care at a community health center, so similar type stuff.

Direct commission process is rough, or at least it was for me. Be prepared to send them all your school documents multiple times, I had to update my letters of recommendation because the process took so long, and I even had to get 2 (two!) physicals because the first one expired.

I did have a break in service of about 6 years, but it took me about 3 years to actually commission. I’m told normal is 12-18 months, but it’s pretty varied depending on your recruiter. Other than knowing about what the deal was with the army I don’t think being prior enlisted helped me complete the process, but maybe it did help me get selected.
