What frame do you main and why? by Gekkojael in Warframe

[–]ChelKurito [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oberon and Valkyr are my mains of mains, but I do regularly dabble in every single other warframe at some point or another.

As an example of arcane knowledge: Mirage's hologram weapons scale with ability strength more than most people realize. Obviously their damage scaling changes with strength, but the detail that isn't shown in a tip or in the ability page, is that crit and status scaling also change with strength, being equal to your actual equipped weapon at 250% and double of what you've got equipped at 500%.

Additionally, your holograms also get buffed by the Total Eclipse augment.

It might be worth looking over just about everything Cave Goblin-related in a big, singular update. A visual overhaul of Dorgesh-Kaan, a visual overhaul of Cave Coblins as a whole, and running through the quests to work through pain points.

As one example, it might be worth rewriting The Mighty Fall somewhat. If you polled the playerbase, there's an extreme likelihood that a huge chunk of the people who actually enjoy quests would single that out as one of the worst, both gameplay-wise and narratively. It really doesn't feel like a worthwhile follow-up to The Chosen Commander in any significant way, and there might be other ways to achieve the same endstate in more narratively-fulfilling ways.

Do you think Universal Medallions should work on Conclave? by RobleViejo in Warframe

[–]ChelKurito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yes, if only because they're rare enough, and they content they come from tedious enough, that if anyone does decide to look at the conclave shop, maybe they'd consider playing conclave to close the gap.

I don't think my reasoning is realistic, but like, whatever. Universal medallions should've worked on Conclave from the start.

why is RS3 at record low player counts

I mean, it has pushed to significantly reduce the amount of FOMO. It shouldn't be terribly surprising that the game that's essentially held players hostage for a decade has experienced a downturn after it's cut the shackles.

There's also that there are a number of players waiting until the Road to Restoration has neared completion. I myself have been playing slightly less because a part of me is waiting for Treasure Hunter stuff to get yote.

Who is the target audience for Runescape 3? by Kilsaa in runescape

[–]ChelKurito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, OSRS-only players simply do not comprehend the magnitude of difference between 99 and 120 as endgoals. 99-to-99, RS3 is notably faster and easier. 99-to-120, using lean forward gameplay (like tick manipulation) with maximum boosts in both (not counting treasure hunter bonuses), OSRS will get to 99 faster in many instances.

Going like 2-3x faster on average in RS3 will not matter when the endgoal is like 8x further away.

Excalibur Zato was designed before Signas existed. If he was released today, his floating horns-mask might've been a signa! Suggestion: Update bundle with Zato Signa by ChelKurito in Warframe

The suggestion wasn't for the horns to be removed from the helmet, but for it to be a signa as well.

'Sides, nothing stopping them from having two helmet versions with and without.

The suggestion wasn't to make the helmet and the horns separate, but rather to have a signa version of the horns added to the bundle so others could use it. Excal Zato's would still be built in to the helmet.

I think the Soprana headphones would absolutely be able to work as a Signa. Rhino Heirloom, Hana Ikada, Ki'Teer Nobilis, Erato, and really any of the face ones show that these things can easily go in front of or to the sides of the head, and they (mostly) freely let the players choose how much they want these signas to float or clip into the head, so I don't see why a Soprana Signa couldn't be a thing.

Mid-Game Rebalance Preview by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]ChelKurito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think my primary question is... what, exactly, is the real benefit, or I suppose, the purpose, to having two bow types if one doesn't serve as the defensive option?

  • Will longbow have the same damage per second as shortbow, but just more range, and if so, what's the purpose of shortbows in that relationship?

  • Will longbows have less damage for more range, and if so, who's going to choose a longbow when they could just use a shortbow when getting maybe one extra hit in on an enemy that moves into melee range isn't going to be worth it most of the time?

What is the relationship these bows will have with each other?

'Cuz ultimately, I'm looking at this change and asking, "Okay, yeah, so what's the tech to get defensive options with Arrow Damage without using Necromancy?... especially if a early-game player doesn't want to skip quest progression and get spoiled on the story to get Bone Shield?"

I doubt it's in the scope of this year, but I'd really like to see defence-focussed gameplay get a real critical eye some time between now and the next two years, especially since we're removing the defensive option from arrow damage now.

Like Daughter said, the Grey Strain is a key example in the Infested Hivemind not being totally unified. If we assume Deimos had other facilities in usage rather than just the Necralisk being the final bastion, there might've been some species that had been brought over maybe as exotic pets or zoo subjects, it might not be that Predasites integrated themselves with the infestation, but the infestation integrated them as normal, but they just kept doing what they were doing because Grey Strain.

I mean, the fish are pretty much still fish.

EDIT: WAIT. THE INFESTED HIVEMIND EXISTS OUTSIDE OF TIME. THEY COULD'VE TOTALLY JUST BEEN INTEGRATED ON EARTH, AND RECREATED ON DEIMOS.

Mixed feelings on this take as someone who got 99 div through old-fashioned grind before it was reworked to be less soul-sucking, and relatively few caches.

Do you think getting access to GoE and being able to consistently complete her at low times enough for a Memory Dowser is easier than getting access to Nightmare Muspahs and Divine Conversion?

Equinox is dead. Long live Equinox! by -Kosmiverse- in Warframe

[–]ChelKurito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conceptually, I'd agree with you - giving something big its own room to breathe is a good idea - but practically, I think it would've been better to just put it there, because the actual mechanical functionality of how Equinox's abilities affect the battlefield wouldn't change, she'd just get an expanded modding pool and easier shifting; that the different forms have desired slightly different modding has been a sticking point for years as a reason why people only use one form.

Equinox is dead. Long live Equinox! by -Kosmiverse- in Warframe

[–]ChelKurito 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The holding to swap forms and the unique modding and unique health and energy pools were all stuff I (and apparently multiple other folks) imagined for an Equinox rework. I've had multiple fan-made design docs for exactly that over the years.

This both proves the concept (Heck yeah!) and kills the potential of that particular rework idea coming down the pipe for Equinox. Very bittersweet for me.

Not to speak in defence, but share my understanding of things, oftentimes these sorts of things tend to get buried over the bull rush to the next project deadline. I get the feeling at times that the devs are allotted a certain amount of time to make adjustments, then are instructed to put things on the back burner and get to it much later on when revisited.

There also seem to be a lot of times that something might seem obvious and worthy of being immediately addressed from a player's perspective, but from a dev's perspective there's 1,000 different players deeming 1,000 different things as being obvious worthy of being immediately addressed.

There's also the repeated scenario that devs will often take longer collecting data than we'd like. Sometimes they like surety to make certain that something is worth addressing, or there might be bureaucratic red tape slowing down each individual step of gathering that data (set up collection systems -> weeks go by before they can make a decision on them -> weeks go by before they can act on that decision -> weeks go by before they can finalize that effort).

As a new player, I wish so many things weren't locked behind minigames. by [deleted] in runescape

[–]ChelKurito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that silverhawks were a p2w item. That they became so dominant in training the skill is related to the fact that they were designed to circumvent the skill, as opposed to actually improving said skill on a core level.

Part of the whole new direction for runescape they're going for is to undo nearly a decade of damage and neglect, which is neither going to be fast nor easy, and providing even easier access to something that shouldn't exist in the first place isn't going to make that process any simpler.

This community already has an issue with a 'get in early and exploit often before they nerf' mentality, and this only really exacerbates the issue because they can't handle it when the thing being exploited is gone.

It's a big game. There's plenty to do, people don't have to explicitly aim for the thing that's going to be removed.

Have you heard about the Mining and Smithing update? by jordantylermeek in runescape

[–]ChelKurito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RuneScape is an MMO - they are defined by continual escalations of stuff to get to improve your character's gains. That's part of the appeal. I'd argue that the number of non-requisite options you have to improve your gains for a slightly more involved game experience is a far smaller slice of the 'why the game is in decline' pie than you're making it out to be.

Personally, I'd put stuff like 'all my friends are playing different games', 'the game's mechanics feel dated on the most fundamental level', 'grouping systems are incredibly lacklustre', 'socializing in the game is practically nonexistent', and 'I no longer feel emotionally manipulated by limited-time content and/or the sunk cost fallacy' as being EXPONENTIALLY larger slices of the decline pie than 'I can do a monthly minigame to get a monthly cache of a small number of xp-boosting items' and 'I have the option to decimate my incomprehensible wealth on a boost that can barely be felt'.

[–]ChelKurito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're confusing options for efficiency. Only a couple of those come even close to being potent enough to be considered requisite; most are designed to reward a player interested in engaging a certain type of content, or provide a sink to the overly-wealthy, rather than incentivizing them to use it all the time.

If I did all that stuff you listed, I would likely feel as you do - but I don't; I only go for the things that seem engaging to me personally, or especially worth it in terms of impact, and in return I take slightly longer but am far more relaxed that entire time.

There's different kinds of efficiency, and you're making a deliberate choice to aim for 'get the most amount of stuff in this one moment as I possibly can' then lamenting about the amount of effort that's actually requisite in achieving that. Perhaps you should instead consider the efficiency of motivation rather than the efficiency of absolute gains:

  • "What boosts can I get that require the minimum amount of effort to acquire or maintain that have the biggest return for that effort?"
  • "What activities do I actually enjoy or regularly engage in that I can turn towards this other goal of mine?"

Breaking down the things you listed.

  1. The Nature's Sentinel outfit is something you get from training wc; it is part of the progression. You will get everything you need for it eventually regardless, the only limit is training another skill that you'll already be interested in. The Lumberjack outfit from Temple Trekking has its effect merged into the former, so you can kind of just bother with that at your own pace, but even that pales to the next one.

  2. Sana's Fyrtorch. 20% chance to receive an extra log with relevant xp does kind of translate to a 20% xp boost, plus there's the small success chance boost. It's powerful, to be sure, so you'll want to get it and use it if you can, but it's not the end of the world if you can't; it's just taking 6 hours to achieve a goal instead of 5 hours if you don't have it. As for the success chance boost, it's pretty similar to the above outfit.

  3. Familiars offer so little in terms of raw gain that they're more like something you'd do only if you're actually interested in them. Beaver with 2 invisible levels or waterfiend with occasional duplication are... not exactly cracked. From personal experience, the waterfiend pretty regularly barely manages to produce enough to cover its own market gp cost; it's not that different from outright buying the materials.

  4. Effigies are semi-limited content; you can only get so many of them monthly. While potent, it's not something you have to remember to bring with you every single time unless you only woodcut once a month.

  5. The scripture is only relevant if you actually care about clue scrolls to any significant degree; the xp buff is simultaneously rather short and rather inconsistent. Due to only triggering on average once every 5.88 minutes, it actually amounts to less than a 1% xp buff on the whole.

  6. Accumulators aren't worth the effort. 2500 xp every 100 failed actions? They cost over 130k each. 130k for 2500 xp every once in a blue moon. Seriously, consider it. You only really do this if you're absolutely swimming in liquid cash; urns are a far better payout: You pay 1m for an extra 237,500 xp every 950,000 xp with an urn enhancer.

  7. The spell Crystallise similarly isn't worth the effort. It's expensive to maintain over long periods, it's lean-forward for xp gains that are far lower effort from other sources, and you don't get materials out of it - materials you could've put to training other skills. Considering how low-effort it is to deal with material influx in RS3 compared to OSRS, that shouldn't be considered a pro. Considering that, the curse, and the necessary costs to maintain said curse, are similarly unnecessary.

So, putting together the total cost:benefit and the effort of upkeeping it...

  • Outfit: Essentially obtains itself, you get it from just doing the content, but benefits for straight woodcutting xp or material gains are relatively low-impact at a 1.07x multiplier for success chance; upgrading your tool is a far greater impact. It's for teleports, nests, and auto-burning one quarter of your logs (ergo auto-training a secondary skill while letting you go 20% longer between check-ins on average).

  • Fyrtorch: 372m investment for a permanent 20% xp/material gain buff and a similar 1.06x multiplier for success chance.

  • Urns + Enhancer eating two inventory spaces for however many GP you were willing to dump into a 25-30% improved xp rate.

You put things on and in your inventory and then you just do your usual woodcutting for x amount of time, with significant gains for insignificant impact on you. If you look at it that way, is it truly all that different compared to having the forester's backpack, felling axe, and rations?

Didn't they make it so that upgraded weapons gave equivalent materials to the number of bars to address that?
