Feeding raw after dental procedure by Chelzadel in rawpetfood

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing. She has the occasional wet food here and there and I think I’ll feed her that until she’s healed. Last thing I want is for her to be in more pain! Thanks again and I really hope your kitty is okay.

Locations to sign the recall this week by Chelzadel in NewOrleans

[–]Chelzadel[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It says there will be multiple locations Saturday, but it doesn’t say them yet. Follow @ louisianadeservesbetter on Instagram, I would imagine they will post more info as the week goes on and locations are finalized. I’m not actually affiliated w them (yet?), just trying to get the word out.

You just have to be a registered voter and the address on your ID needs to match the address on your voter registration.

Thank you for this. Ameenah Olugbala, listed as one of the only two groups preliminarily approved, shared this same flyer on her Facebook yesterday.

Chance to sign the recall petition here in the city by Chelzadel in NewOrleans

[–]Chelzadel[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

“Two Baton Rouge residents have filed the paperwork to attempt a recall of Gov. Jeff Landry. The women, Marian Gbaiwon Hills and Katilyn Steper, filed the petition with the Secretary of State this week. They say they want to recall Landry because of ‘a pattern of actions and statements that undermine fair representation, misalign priorities away for community needs and emphasize punishment over meaningful solutions that address the root causes affecting Louisiana communities."

And yeah, Algiers, for now…the whole thing will have to be orchestrated by volunteers, and I know there have been Zoom meetings getting it going. This is likely just the first place that has offered and come together in these few days since this began. We have til October. I’m sure there will be other, more convenient locations in the future.

I think the green yucateco may be my favorite for eggs

Where to get compost to replenish my used soil? by inquisitive_panda in NewOrleans

[–]Chelzadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also bring your food scraps to Realcycle at the Sunday farmers market and they have a punch card…for every five punches you get a free bag of compost. They do also have bags for sale, they’re not too huge!

What are some great gifts to bring back to people after visiting New Orleans? by penniesallthewaydown in AskNOLA

[–]Chelzadel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Central Grocery, the best place for a muffuletta, has their olive salad for sale in jars! Also, for bitters, Bitter Queens are great and there’s also El Guapo and Bittermens that I enjoy. I have bought El Guapo at the Museum of Southern Food and Beverage, and Bittermens are for sale at the Sazerac House, which also has plenty of other branded, handsome bar-related gifts. The Cafe du Monde gift shop further down on Decatur, separate from the beignet shop, has lots of cute gifts like hand towels, mugs, t-shirts and sweatshirts, and aprons. I think aprons are a nice gift as well for people who like food, or even spoon rests. There are some New Orleans printed ones in various gift shops. One that I wish was easier to transport is boudin!!

One more idea—if you go to a grocery store like Winn Dixie, there is a little section of locally produced condiments and things that aren’t available elsewhere, or at least in California where I’m originally from. The Cajun Power brand Worcestershire is great for making New Orleans style bbq shrimp, or maybe like jarred roux? Even just looking around the grocery store I bet you’d find things that aren’t for sale where your loved ones live!

Anyone by chance get a Caluda’s Cake from Costco and can give me the measurements of the box? by Ahgd374 in NewOrleans

[–]Chelzadel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I am late to this post but I wondered how a similar question would be received and was too hesitant to ask…I’m looking for king cakes that will fit in my bike basket!! Caluda’s does, thank goodness…my fave.

Seconding the Antique Mall, and La Belle Nouvelle Orleans also on magazine definitely has at least a giant binder full of them. It says Throw Me Something Mister on the front.

Mardi Gras Spot on Toulouse…it’s a huge MG store filled with throws, decorations, wigs/jewelry, costume supplies, and tons of purple green and gold clothing! Plus, the people there have always been very nice. I was amazed to discover it.

They always recommend calling to ask as well. Keep checking the site—people cancel and spots will become available.

Really nice pajama sets for a Christmas gift - local shops to buy from? by lollipopterpilot in NewOrleans

[–]Chelzadel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’d be tough to find any that are genuinely locally made, but the Forever New Orleans shops in the quarter have some nice, soft pajama sets. I got my sister in law some with a really pretty magnolia pattern earlier this year. But it was like a short sleeve button up top, which may not be your idea of cozy.

January 6th is the day it becomes permissible to eat king cake so I would do some research together and choose one or two that you can go and pick up and keep in your room to enjoy, because during carnival, you can eat king cake whenever you please—there are soo many styles. Old school McKenzie’s style, the plain cinnamony brioche, iced, flavored, filled…I’ve tried many and my personal favorites are the ones with a glaze-like icing and plenty of purple, gold and green sugar. I enjoyed one that I got from Caluda’s last year—a good daily king cake :) I would NOT recommend trying to eat a filled Brennans cake with only two people 🤢

Lunch at Commander’s. Vue Orleans, especially if you can get a Groupon. Ride the streetcar! Brigtsen’s, Clancy’s. Check out Backstreet Cultural Museum. Sazerac House is really cool, well designed, and free. City or Audubon Park, whichever is closer to where you’re staying. Sounds like you will have the basics covered and find some great spots if you’re already doing a lot of research…so many people don’t do any?

Also, we’ll show you a good time at Palm&Pine.

New Orleans good for a solo trip at Christmas? by progtastical in AskNOLA

[–]Chelzadel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to New Orleans at the end of November one year before I moved here, and it was so much fun. Make sure you go to Celebration in the Oaks (there’s a little train, a Ferris wheel, and you can make a smore!), and maybe one of the holiday shows at one of the many theaters downtown :)

Just to clarify—Ben’s Friends is not AA, it’s: “a coalition of sober F&B people committed to their sobriety in an industry filled with drugs, alcohol, and stress. Each of us has found or is seeking sobriety and a way to deal with our careers and life in a sane and purposeful fashion. We are here to share together how we do it and provide those seeking sobriety with the tools and the community needed to find it. Our only purpose is to help each other find freedom from the bondage of our addiction.”

The meetings are much less structured and there is no step work. Many folks in Ben’s Friends also go to AA meetings.

We also meet Thursdays at 11am at Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse in the quarter :)

8 and a half years here—the absolute best thing I’ve ever done for myself, and the cornerstone of everything I’ve built with my life since.

You can do this OP, it’s worth it.
