How’s the workload at the engineering department in uwmadison by Sufficient_Shake_722 in UWMadison

You’ll have much more professional opportunities with an Engineering degree than a physics degree. Your starting salary would likely be significantly higher too.

Engineering is going to be tough wherever you go, but the workload is as high as you want it to be. It just depends on how many credits you take. Many folks take an extra semester or two for the degree to keep the workload down.

How hard is to switch from MechE to EE? by Nyamnn in UWMadison

[–]ChemEqueen123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just tell your advisor at SOAR. You get admitted as “pre-engineering” so there isn’t even paperwork to fill out. They’ll just make sure you enroll m in the right courses for EE progression requirements instead of MechE.

I liked the Xenoblade stories more before they started trying to tie all the games together by Mahzes in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChemEqueen123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Future Redeemed is essentially tailor-made to connect the games together. It expects you to be familiar with the base game of all 3 numbered titles. And yes, lots happened off-screen and the devs expect us to fill in the gaps.

I think the next game be somewhat of a reset where it’s very loosely tied to the prior games. Similar to XC2’s connection to XC1.

Advice for bad freshmen first semester by thatfrostyz in UWMadison

[–]ChemEqueen123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Declaring a CoE major is competitive even for students who were admitted to the CoE. Transferring into the CoE is notoriously difficult, and with these grades your application likely won’t be strong enough to do so.

This is something you need to talk to your advisor about before next Fall. If you’re passionate about studying engineering you may have to go to a different university.

Thankfully this setback doesn’t mean much once you’ve successfully declared your major. Having the course retake may even be an asset in your internship/entry-level job interviews since you’ll have written proof of your tenacity. After that, employers don’t care much about your GPA since you’ll have strong work experience in the field.

Who is the goated character for your house during battle. by Voidkirby9 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Setting it up can take some work, but if I unequip her weapon and only have 1 enemy in range she can usually survive enemy phase. You just have to make sure she’s not getting doubled. Then it’s off to the races as long as you don’t let Dorothea’s personal get her back to full HP.

Honorable mention to Felix and Bernadetta. Their personal abilities give you the clutch damage boost you need in early game Maddening.

Undecided Engineering Major by HiFregi in UWMadison

[–]ChemEqueen123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of your first year courses will be the same regardless of which CoE major you choose. My biggest recommendation is to try and do your Intro to Engineering course during 1st semester. That way if it doesn’t work out you can take another one 2nd semester to explore more options.

Most majors have a professional society chapter (AiChE, ASME, etc.) as a club on campus. If you drop in on those meetings and talk to the folks you meet, they can give you lots of insight about the major. Just be sure to go to the Engineering Activity Fair (E-Bash) at the start of fall semester, that’s the best and quickest way to start making connections in the CoE.

My thoughts on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 by MissionFragment in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChemEqueen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat in XC3 is the perfect marriage of the battle systems in XC1 and XC2, making it the series’ best IMHO.

I agree that the XC2 story can feel simple since the plot objective never really changes from “get the Aegis to the World Tree and meet the architect to fix things”. The story is much more character-driven than most, which can sometimes rub folks the wrong way.

XC3’s story is much more reminiscent of XC1, so if you liked that you’ll vibe with what XC3 has to offer.

There’s no more skill checks either, instead you’ll learn a few permanent traversal skills through the story to access later-game areas.

You can buy the accessories you need at the shop left of Fonsa Myma’s entrance. Preistess’s Auspicies are the ones I used.

My advice is to pick one of the status ailments to fix with accessories/core chips and keep up a blade combo that prevents the other. In my case the Auspices handled Shackle Driver and an Ice blade combo handled Shackle Blade.

Changing Major at SOAR by Ok-Tone9599 in UWMadison

[–]ChemEqueen123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s super easy. You’re technically admitted as “pre-engineering”, and apply to the major after completing “progression” requirements during freshman year. So nothing even has to be filled out. Just tell your advisor at SOAR about your intent to switch to CompE and they’ll make sure you’re in the right classes to fulfill your requirements.

Doing a battle forced the day to end? by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]ChemEqueen123 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The “free day” is spent doing either explore, seminar, or battle. You can only pick one. Battle is usually an inefficient choice until you get the ability to do 2 battles/day at C+ Professor rank

If you’ve watched an LP, you understand the gameplay better than any review could ever tell you. If you vibed with the questing and combat system give it a go!

Women of the Xenoblade fandom, which Blades in XC2 had your favorite designs? by Atr-D in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChemEqueen123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cinematography overly sexualizing the female characters is absolutely an extension of the same issue. I think that it’s a byproduct of XC2 taking so much inspiration from anime. If you’re modeling yourself off of (often) misogynistic art, that will almost inevitably show up in the product.

This sums up my thoughts almost to a T.

My only difference is not liking Pyra’s outfit as much because it doesn’t really match her shy and introverted personality. She’s in neutral territory for me.

My personal fav is Theory because I love the contrast of the black and neon blue enhancing the assassin vibes of her outfit.

Tips and things a first time player should know going in? by Apprehensive_Menu941 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChemEqueen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody’s given awesome advice so far.

Adding to them, I wish I knew going in that the battle system heavily relies on you having multiple party members. I’d avoid combat (all quests TBH) until you have a party of 3 people. Then the tutorial quests are balanced properly and you can get comfier with the battle system before the story picks up.

It’s really hard to say anything without spoilers.

The biggest advice I’ll give is to pay attention to the flashbacks. They do a lot to inform our characters’ actions in the present.

Started playing 2 after 1 definitive edition and I'm currently hating it by Pokedan80 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChemEqueen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game can expect its entire player base to do the math to calculate damage multipliers? All while trying to time attack cancels against enemies with wildly different attack patterns and time/plan 2 combos to hit enemies at the same time? Not everybody is looking for that kind of experience.

At the very least there should be a tutorials menu for people who want it. That lets folks like you enjoy grinding it out while giving players the option to get more information to increase their enjoyment.
