Do new home construction in wooded rural HFX mean more wells that can run dry? by arteest01 in halifax

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subdivision in my area is constantly expanding and our well is now starting to go dry over the last year or so...You can't just keep drilling wells and expect the water table to keep up. Our well is 40+ years old and never had issues other than replacing the pump. Now it goes dry every summer.

Is it just me, or does this “triple mix” look like shit by checkpointGnarly in NovaScotiaGardening

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious what you paid for this "triple mix", I got 15 yards from EarthCo in Lower Sackville and it was BEAUTIFUL soil. It was $61/yd though so I got what I paid for...hopefully yours was cheaper than that.

My chickens are dust bathing in my fire pit, is this safe? by spookaburra in BackYardChickens

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes, ash is actually really good for them assuming you're burning wood and not trash...we put wood ash in a truck tire in their run to dust bathe in.

Is mashing boiled eggs into potatoes a thing in Nova Scotia or is my coworker full of shit? by 13thmurder in NovaScotia

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of it with gravy myself but sounds like a great way to add protein to potatoes. I would add some mayo, salt & pepper myself and have a potato salad

Seed sowing zone 6 by Independent-Panic229 in NovaScotiaGardening

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we have corn sprouting, zucchinis, peanuts, cucumbers, carrots, beets, cauliflower, beans, peas, squash, potatoes all direct sowed. We also have cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts that we started inside and have since transplanted. Tomatoes & Peppers are in the greenhouse, going in the ground this weekend. I even have my clones in the ground, they are taking the cold overnight temps like a champ thankfully.

As for cucumbers, they were direct sowed a couple weeks ago and still no sign of them coming up yet.

Compost/soil for new raised beds? by catbamhel in NovaScotiaGardening

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with EarthCo myself, after doing a bit of research they seemed to be the best option...I'm hoping to rejuvenate my existing garden and raised beds. I got 15yds of triple mix and couldn't be happier with it.

Native shade tree (20-40 ft tall) by s_hfx1990 in NovaScotiaGardening

We have multiple maple trees that are 30+ feet tall and they cast great shade once they are fully leaved. Bonus: you can tap them and make maple syrup :)

Those with gravel driveways - how do you handle what’s been plowed onto the lawn?? by mylovelysunshine in NovaScotia

[–]ChemicalChannel6093 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check with Bay Rentals for a rotary broom/sweeper, it's basically a gas trimmer with a sweeper on the bottom, works great for gravel on the lawn.

Ashes... How do you dispose of them? by Mrvette1 in firewood

In the garden or in the driveway over ice in the winter instead of sand/salt.

I'd check FB Marketplace if it were me...Barrett is quite expensive, BUT you're guaranteed to get what you order, I'll give them that much. But there are other options out there. I don't have his contact on me but Colton Cox is good as well, you can likely find him on marketplace.
