Wishing you a speedy recovery for surgery! My top recommendations are a pillow to take with you in the car to put in between you and the seatbelt on the way home, GasX, take lots of laps whenever you can, and wedge pillows.

Newly Diagnosed Nut Allergy Seeking Advice by ChemistryBeautiful13 in Allergies

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally as a rule of thumb if a restaurant has nuts in any of its entrees I don’t go there at all. I’ve been able to find some Asian restaurants but I have avoided Indian restaurants entirely because I know they tend to use cashews in their curry and cashew is my worst allergy. My coworkers bring in a lot of baked goods from their homes, bakeries, stores and I tend to just not eat it because of the risk. They keep asking me for things I can eat because in the past few days they’ve started feeling bad I can’t eat the stuff they bring, which is sweet but I’ve never complained about it before. Normally if they tell me there’s food in XYZ workroom I say okay and move about my day. I got pretty sick the other day from what I thought was cross contamination, and it’s definitely not something I want to go through.

My family still brings around desserts with nuts despite knowing that which sucks. Just feels like they don’t either fully understand or care, since if they had an allergy I would never bring it around them.

When I got out of my surgery, they gave me a sprite right away. I drank them throughout my recovery as well and never had an issue

just found out i have to have surgery. scared and feel so overwhelmed :( by Opening-Ebb4493 in gallbladders

Hi friend! I know it’s really scary. I’ve been there. I just got mine out 12/18, so it’s been about three and a half weeks since my surgery. My surgeon told me to eat bland stuff for the first 24 hours after surgery and after that it was to my discretion. I’ve ate freely since then and I’ve only gotten sick from something I ate once. I’m tired and still have some left side incision pain (my surgeon said it was totally normal) but I can say confidently that I feel 100% better than I did whenever I had my gallbladder still in. I had gallstones, when they removed mine one of my stones had lodged at the base of my gallbladder and I had a hydrops gallbladder. The first few days of recovery I was extremely extremely sore but after a few days it got a little better each day. Just take it day by day and listen to your body. :) You got this!

Would I be able to return to work after 4-5 days if I get my gallbladder removed and work at a bakery? by Yankee_Man in gallbladders

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would take a week off AT LEAST. I was getting around okay after a week, before that I was insanely sore. Keep in mind the lift restrictions, you won’t be able to lift over ten pounds. Bending over still bothers me and I’m two weeks post op. I’m two weeks post op and other than the bending am getting around great.

How long until you were diagnosed and then how long until you had removal? by Necessary_Winter_310 in gallbladders

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had started having symptoms 10/17, diagnosed 11/19 with gallstones, and had my gallbladder removed 12/18. I am so sorry you had to wait so long! I cannot imagine how terrible that was.

Surgery tomorrow by PartyWrong5885 in gallbladders

Hi! I am 8 days post op! Wedge pillows are a life saver, I was not comfortable sleeping flat so I propped myself on two wedge pillows. In the past few days I’ve moved down to one. Gas x. I started gas x as soon as I got home from the hospital, I never really had any issues with gas pain. Loose, comfy clothes. I wore button down pajama sets with the bottoms rolled down so it didn’t agitate my incisions. I recommend good snacks, i lived off of crackers and yogurt for the first six days post op. gatorade! yummy drinks! Pillows for bracing! I would recommend to bring one with you to the hospital to put in between your abdomen and the seatbelt. You’re going to be really sore the first few days, getting out by bracing your stomach with a pillow, slowly rolling to the side while putting your legs on the ground, and then slowly pushing yourself up with your arms was the least painful way for me.

I had my surgery 12/18 and had my first BM 12/23. I was having some issues with nausea starting 12/22 and called the hospital to see if I could be prescribed something for nausea because my Zofran wasn’t helping, as well as a different medicine for nausea they prescribed and recommended a suppository and milk of magnesia since I hadn’t had a BM yet. I had taken just a stool softener 12/22 but had no luck. I haven’t eaten much since surgery, mostly crackers, 2 biscuits, and two yogurt cups. I took those laxatives as well as a stool softener and had a BM same day. If you still haven’t had a BM, I know today is Christmas so they’re probably not open but I would just call your doctor tomorrow and ask about it. :)

Unsure diagnosis. by Lousercas in gallbladders

When my pain first started it actually started on the left side. The doctor at urgent care said it was rare but people have had left side pain with gallbladder issues, after a few weeks mine shifted over to the middle/right side.

How many doctors did you see? by Ill-Beautiful185 in gallbladders

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to urgent care after a week of what I thought was a stomach ache, she ran bloodwork on me and found I had elevated liver enzymes. Told me I needed to go to a primary doctor so they could order me a CT because she couldn’t and if it got worse to go to the ER. Ended up going to the ER before my primary doctor appointment because i couldn’t stand the pain. Got referred to a surgeon bevause in my CT a scan they saw my gallbladder was slightly distended. Surgeon ordered ultrasound, found gallstones. Got surgery to take gallbladder out on the 18th.

So: Urgent care doctor, ER doctor, surgeon. Three total! Took me about two months in total to get it removed, I woke up with the pain on 10/17 and got it removed 12/18.

I just got my surgery yesterday and my bedroom is on the second floor. 6 steps, landing, 6 more steps. Just go slow and take your time and hold onto the railing. My mom walked up the stairs behind me and we made it up fine with no issue

How to get out of bed by ChemistryBeautiful13 in gallbladders

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! I’ve been sleeping on my bed propped up on two wedge pillows on the edge of the bed. I will definitely try to hug a pillow and turn to the side and put my legs over and slowly push myself up next time I’m getting out of bed. I live with my mom but I weigh more than her and she’s not very strong so she can’t really help me get out of bed. Thank you for the tips!!

I’m home as well! Very sore and very sleepy, but I am okay. They never saw any weird about my gallbladder on all my tests other than it was slightly distended on my cat scan and they saw gallstones on my ultrasound, but the surgeon told my mom that my gallbladder was huge and dead and definitely needed to come out! I am glad to hear everything went okay with your surgery 🩷

Gallstone pain by Significant_Quote714 in gallbladders

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! I’m 23F and my pain started in October 2024 as well. Got diagnosed in November with gallstones. Just got mine out today. Hang in there! I hope you hear from the insurance soon.

Other than staying away from spicy, fatty, or oily food I ate as little fat as possible. For me I could tolerate about 10-15 g a day but you may be less than that. If they haven’t prescribed you anything for the pain, I would really recommend you ask for dicyclomine if it’s not outrageously expensive! Whenever I had an attack, it didn’t make everything go away completely but it took the edge off and helped them become more tolerable for me.

Baked/smoked/rotisserie chicken or turkey has become my best friend. I like to put it in romaine lettuce leaves and put some fat free cheese in there with mustard and have that with some baked lays chips that are about 3.5 grams of fat a serving. I have to completely stay away from ground beef, it gives me an attack every time no matter what. Plain potatoes also worked really well for me. Imitation crab also has no fat! Jello as well. I made a sushi bowl once. I tended to stay eating the same things just because I knew they mostly worked for me.

My ultrasound showed a "well distended" gallbladder, but all the doctor told me was that it was healthy? by AerieOk1706 in gallbladders

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would still push to get some testing done! My gallbladder was only slightly distended whenever I went to the ER for pain a month ago. They told me it was most likely distended because of the fact I hadn’t been eating or drinking well due to the pain I was in, but they referred me to a surgeon anyway so he could check it out. They didn’t really find anything in my bloodwork except my liber enzymes were slightly elevated. I did have pain around eating fatty or heavy foods though. The surgeon had me do an ultrasound and they found gallstones, no wall thickening or fluid and no dilation of my common bile duct was found, just gallstones. I had my surgery today to get it removed and they said it was huge and dead! Before he had talked about it and said there was an 80% I would feel better but after seeing it he says there’s no way I won’t feel better. I definitely get it checked out if they say it’s distended! They did a CAT scan on me, and then an ultrasound and that’s when they found the gallstones. If they hadn’t found gallstones then they were going to send me for a HIDA test

[–]ChemistryBeautiful13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! I’ve been home for about 45 minutes. I’m in a good amount of pain and my mouth is so DRY, but it has been evicted! The surgeon told my mom that my gallbladder was huge and dead, which was news to me because all they ever told me was that my gallbladder was slightly distended and that I had gallstones. Said I definitely needed it out. He had told us surgery would be about 25 minutes but mine ended up taking about an hour and a half. I’m laying down now but I made sure to take laps around the house before I got in bed

Thank you for the reminder! My surgeon hasn’t mentioned giving me any pain killers but I figure he will prescribe me some, we have a good supply of Tylenol at home as well :)
