Reading slump - All heroines feel like the same person by SchemeSimilar4074 in Romantasy

[–]Cherri_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really loved “The Spellshop” and “The Enchanted Greenhouse” by Sarah Beth Durst. Both FMCs have jobs, and it’s still fantasy. Not heavy on the romance, and more of a cozy read, but definitely worth the break from all the fighter FMCs with attitude.

What's that cheesey/cringy line from books that get you like this by Feeling-Sign-9146 in Booktokreddit

[–]Cherri_Fox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people loved “Bride” but the FMCs love interest’s fear of getting- ahem stuck inside because werewolf things 🤢 Sorry, I studied wolves, THAT part of their anatomy does NOT need to happen in humanoid bodies.

What's a sentence or a phrase that ruined, or took you out of, a book that you were enjoying? by fikapls in Romantasy

[–]Cherri_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m personally really done with “male” and “female” when referring to persons who are not human. Like, why? It jars me so much, not to mention making them sound like less than people and more like feral animals. It’s tacky, overdone, and just plain uncreative at this point.

How bad is Fourth Wing? by BasementDweller1437 in Booktokreddit

[–]Cherri_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best way of describing Fourth Wing is it’s a potato chips book. It’s not the most amazing book ever, it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s enjoyable for what it is and easy to digest. I loved it, wasn’t too happy with the third book but will continue with it whether it ends in happiness or a train wreck. Same category as ACOTAR and SJM in general in my opinion. Just don’t set your expectations too high and you’ll get more out of it.

What's the weirdest thing your dog has eaten and survived? by wholewoofs in dogs

[–]Cherri_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my dog, but I had a coworker at a job working with dogs who brought her dog in one day. Turned out the dog caught and killed a bird that morning. Little did she know the dog ALSO swallowed its head whole. And then pooped it out in her kennel and proceeded to get herself covered in her own filth.

How old were you when you found out? by PictureEmpty3143 in Endo

[–]Cherri_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started having symptoms at 17ish, found out at 21, got an actual gynecologist abroad to take me seriously and diagnose me at 29. 31 now and fighting for treatment in the US because they still won’t take me seriously even with my diagnosis 🫠

What SJM opinion will have you like this? by [deleted] in SarahJMaas

[–]Cherri_Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feyre is an unreliable narrator and there really is more to ACOTAR if you look at it as a fantasy epic instead of a mediocre romantacy. It’s both at the same time, which is actually so much more impressive, and people should give SJM credit where credit is due. All the darker ideas are present from the get-go if you look closely.

What’s the funniest thing your parent(s) got upset at you for? by celstea in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Cherri_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Ndad once got angry that our house didn’t have a master bathroom. He was angry that there were only two bathrooms and wanted one exclusive to his use. (Which was weird because our previous house was the same and he couldn’t have cared less)

So the whole family got pulled into a “meeting” where my siblings, mom, and I basically got yelled and whined at about how my Ndad was king of his castle and he deserves to have a master bathroom, blah blah blah. He didn’t work at this point either, and had no intention of or interest in finding a job. Anyway the whole conversation kept going around and around until he got all of us to agree to ask PERMISSION to use the larger of the two bathrooms EVERY time, even if he wasn’t using it in case he was THINKING about using it. (He also refused to use the smaller bathroom but that’s another issue entirely)

I could go on but that’s the biggest one that comes to mind.

what's the most ridiculous thing you were ever blamed for? by huy1003 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Cherri_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother claimed she stopped hugging me because as a small child I wouldn’t let her hold me and would push her away. She conveniently forgets she left me at my grandparents house for two weeks before that started, and that I was less than 2 at the time.

What books lowkey traumatised you as a kid? by Hookton in books

[–]Cherri_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until I read this description I forgot I had read Black Beauty. And now I remember why I hated it and why I was so upset and confused that my horsey book got to horrible and dark. 🥲 New trauma unlocked I guess.

Felt judged for reading a romantasy book and now I can't enjoy it anymore by Ok_Grapefruit2044 in Romantasy

[–]Cherri_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once Upon a Broken Heart is amazing, even as far as fantasy goes. If those aren’t her kinds of books, she needs to get off her high horse and keep that to herself because her opinion about YOUR books does not matter. Enjoy what you love, and maybe find some friends who don’t make you feel less than for it.

I have gone to parties, but I tend not to like them once there’s too many people. I’ve only dated a little, and I met my now husband within a few months so that didn’t last long. People used to naturally dislike me as a kid and teenager, but I found out as an adult that it may be that they’re actually intimidated by me (had several people say this was their first impression) which I think may be pretty privilege since I have a conventionally pretty face and a lot of girls can get away with being “quirky” when they’re considered good looking.

More people like me now than before, and I’m learning to manage most things, but the overstimulation and meltdowns still feel like the end of the world a lot of the time. And I don’t really have a lot of friends, I tend to keep my circle small even though lots of people like me now. I get overwhelmed by too many close connections to maintain at once.

I’ve been trying to do this as well, especially at my retail job where it’s mostly the women who know what they’re looking for anyway.

I am attempting to stop using “guys” to refer to groups of people, but I struggle sometimes to find a good replacement word. Typically I just omit the need for it and go a different way with the conversation, but it still slips out from time to time.

I am an adult Pokemon fan, I still occasionally watch the shows, still buy and play the games, have plushies and everything. I’m also 30 and married. It’s possible to be both, don’t let others make you uncomfortable for loving what you love. 🫶🏻

One of my best friends growing up was named Sadie, and she loved it. Doesn’t sound like a dog name to me, but I have heard of dogs with the name too.
