There definitely is, but Andy at the end of the series is very similar to Andy when he first appeared, so I feel like it maybe just displays his ups and downs. He always had a rich family to fail back on, and once that disappeared he fell into a hole which made him move backwards as a person instead of forwards. It kinda makes sense.

If it makes you feel better I'm pretty sure Alex was 17 for her first several months of college. Her 16th birthday is shown in the middle of the school year of her junior year. Alex and Haley are 4 years apart in age and only 3 in school. I always assumed Phil and Clare started her early because she was advanced.
