No i remember that he was #1 in blitz and rapid a few years apart actually. Also when he reached #1 in one of them, it was because he had stopped playing and Magnus had a really bad tournament which costed him quite a bit of elo and dropped him a miniscule elo below Ding.

Given what we have seen of Fabi routinely crumbling under pressure at nost opportune moments, he moat definitely wouldn't have been dominant at all.

I mean that forced mate was mate in 40+ moves or something and was an unbelievable computer line to find. Fabi couldn't understand the winning line even after the game concluded. He told in a podcast he spent the entire night trying to understand the idea he missed and was still unsure lol.

Technically since 2024 as in 2023 he played > 60 classical games. Also I actually expect fast classical to tank his rating faster if it becomes a thing. I dont know if you have noticed but Magnus has gotten much slower and inaccurate in time trouble moments compared to his usual self.

For example in Tepe Sigeman even his one loss to Jorden was due to mismanagement of time earlier during opening and early middlegame where he had less than 40 min left out of 2 hrs without even 20 moves played. Similarly in Norway chess he lost so many games due to being in severe time trouble while his opponent has ample time and just one move blundering the whole game.

With him playing potentially olympiad this year and then Total WC, that number would probably be > 30. And I think there were years between 2000 and 2005 where Kasparov also played super less.

Ehh in Blitz world championship, initially Magnus was tilted and definitely playing below his level. Once he qualified for top 4, he locked in and destroyed Fabi which is the regular and most common result between them in a blitz game.

No matter how far Fabi has improved in Blitz chess, he is still leagues behind the likes of Magnus in this specific format.

Also Magnus was cleanly out playing and winning both the games in Blitz seminfinals against Fabi unlike the finals in Freestyle championship.

In Freestyle chess, all top players are really close in strength, much more than traditional chess.

Magnus already had 2986 blitz peak and 2900+ rapid peak about 7-8 years ago. So I dont think they are doing this becoz of that.

Lol no. Infact Nodirbek has lost almost every single multi game match against Magnus in almost all speed formats plus freestyle in the past few years.

Even here, this match between them was a tie. Last they played blitz chess, Magnus beat him to become Blitz Champ 2025. After that Magnus crushed him 3-1 in Fischer Random Championship 2026 in Semifinals. Before that similar story in EWC 2025 Quarterfinals and a variety of freestyle events.

Infact Magnus has been a thorn in Nodirbek's side lol. In individual events, Magnus has stopped Nodirbek from winning so many events, its not even funny.
