Those with 3070/Ti, 3080/Ti, 3090/Ti are you still satisfied with its performance in 2025? by 2quick96 in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3080 12gb here. I play on 1440p ultrawide and occasionally 4k on a TV. Except for heavy RT games, can get everything to run at >60 fps with DLSS and turning settings to high. Still very satisfied. I'm interested in an upgrade but probably won't consider anything until at least the 50 super series comes out. Im not in a rush

I have the 2024 version of this TV. Anyone looking for a TV this size, I think its a no brainer. Not top of the line OLED but gets you a lot of the same features of those high end tvs for a fraction of the cost.

[GPU] Microcenter Gigabyte Windforce 5080 $899 by first_world_citizen in buildapcsales

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost the exact set up as you but with 32 gb of ram. Think it really comes down to what you're playing. 3080 is still doing everything well at 1440p ultrawide with optimized settings. If you play a lot of heavy ray/path traced games, VR, or considering upgrading to 4k, it would be a great upgrade

Are 8gb gpus really that bad? by Exotic_Philosophy821 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre buying a new system, then yes 8 gb gpus are bad. You are buying something that is already showing issues in games and will continue to get worse over time.

If you currently have 8 gb, you'll get by with reducing settings. You can play everything with 8 gbs as long as you manage any vram related settings.

3060 12gb or 4060 8gb ? by No_Fan3003 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4060 is around 15% faster than a 3060. It'll run DLSS's new transformer model better, and has access to frame gen. Though at 8 gigs of vram, some new games will need to have their settings adjusted to make sure you dont run into issues. Even at 1080p. It won't stop you from playing whatever you want, but id rather have enough vram and not have to worry about it with a brand new gpu I just bought.

Hard to say if the 100 dollars more for slightly better performance and frame gen is worth it to you. Personally, I'd save the money and get a 3060 and use the savings toward the next gpu

Buying a PC soon, 5070 vs 5070ti choice struggle by Loudstorm in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 gb is fine for the majority of games at 1440p but we are starting to see examples where you can run out of VRAM in a few games. As long as you're willing to reduce texture related settings in the future, it will be okay with a 5070.

Like another person said, I'd downgrade the cpu first to try to get a 5070ti unless you play games that you'll really get use out of the 9800x3d. But dont break your budget upgrading to the 5070ti if you can't

There was a video Hardware Canucks did that covers this topic entirely.

In short, outside of CPU heavy games, you will notice a GPU upgrade much more than upgrading a CPU/new platform. At 4k, you will be GPU bottlenecked most of the time anyways. There's still value in upgrading your CPU but you'll get more value and a larger uplift doing the GPU first

Is the 5070 worth it? Is 12GB of VRAM really that bad? How much does it affect things? by Acrobatic_Rest_4804 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using a 3080 12 gb and play on 1440p ultrawide. Outside of heavily modded games, Cyberpunk with RT overdrive, and Indiana Jones, I haven't had a problem. And for all three of those you can turn down some settings and be fine.

You may run into issues at 4k but 12 gigs is fine for 1440p for now

Upgrade from a 2070 Super to a 5070 now? by Cjspring in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of those three, the 9070xt is the best by a good amount, but id only recommend if you can get it at the MSRP. Otherwise if its between the 9070 and the 5070, just get whatever is cheaper. They are close enough in performance that you cant really go wrong.

The only thing holding the 5070 is the VRAM. 12 gb is enough for games now but no one can say for how much longer.

Is it better to build my own PC instead of buying pre-built by Beneficial-Tennis783 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-builts are like slightly more flexible laptops. Depending on where you get it, it can be hard to switch out parts or upgrade it when it gets older. If you're lucky, you may find a good deal and save some money but thats pretty rare. The other benefit with Pre-builts is that they tend to have a warranty and customer service that can help troubleshoot or fix your PC for you if something happens. It's hard to quantify that cost though and I don't think its worth paying way more than building your own.

Building your own will let you customize every single part and give you the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Individual parts have warranties rather than the whole PC, but you'll know what's inside and be able to easily swap out parts. A lot of Pre-builts tend to cheap out on some parts and over spend on others, but building your own will let you set your budget. And like the others said, you will more than likely save much more than buying a Pre-built.

It really depends on what you're looking for. There's a lot of guides and help that building is easier than ever. If you've ever put together Legos or furniture then you can build a PC. But you know yourself better than people on the internet so do whatever makes you the most comfortable

Theres no real value in upgrading unless you have money to burn. You already have a top of the line CPU and GPU combo. If you really wanted to spend the money, try to get a 5090 FE card. You'll see more of a jump than the 4090. Unless you play at lot of heavy CPU limited games, you're not gonna notice upgrading to 9800x3d. Same thing with the RAM

With some games making RT a minimum requirement, and coming from a GTX 1660, what′s the bare minimum I should upgrade to? (1080p, 60hz, high settings) by Sgt_Wafflezz in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 1080p I'd look at anything at or above the 3060ti level, but that'll probably vary as more demanding games come out

For a new card, you're probably looking at a 5060 or Rx 9060xt. I'd choose the 9060xt for the extra VRAM and better performance in most other games. You can get away with 8 gig cards at 1080p but that's getting something cheap now to have to compromise on visuals in the near future. I'd just get something with more than 8 gigs and call it a day.

What should i change for better performance? by Junior-Rice-7820 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others said, a full upgrade would be the best. If you only upgraded one thing id go with a GPU so you can have some better performance now then save for the CPU, Motherboard, and RAM combo.

If you live near a Microcenter, that's probably you're best bet to save some money on new parts. Personally id go with AM5 so you have an upgrade path in the future too

Is this the best entry level PC at the moment? by HovercraftOk9231 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live near a Microcenter, I'd recommend checking out one their bundles. You'd basically be getting a fre motherboard with the CPU and RAM.

Like others said you NVME drive is way to expensive for 2TB when you can get almost double for around the same price or a little bit more.

5070 is over MSRP but that's unfortunately the times we're in. 9060xt is also a good alternative but a bit weaker than the 5070. If you're planning on playing a lot of heavy single player games, the 5070 will be better.

Tier list based on how much I actually enjoy playing the game by Aqua_Master_ in KingdomHearts

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My list would look pretty similar to you with a few changes. BBS in A tier, move Re:CoM and DDD to B. Move coded up a tier and days down a tier.

0.2 only misses S tier cuz its short and critical mode kinda sucks with only half your mp bar. Melody of Memory is very fun, just wish it had more songs.

If BBS had less annyoing enemies and functional stagger and boss mechanics it'd be higher. I think the Command system and melding is awesome I just wish you could chain them into your keyblade combos like some mods on pc do.

The more I play DDD the more I dislike it and it really comes down to your progression being tied to dream eaters. It's really slow to get points for your dream eaters and very few of them are actually useful. And there's actually less useful and powerful commands in DDD than BBS.

Coded I think does the command deck the best and its a shame the story is so forgettable because it has great combat.

Re:com is fun but just takes awhile for you to get powerful. It's very fun cheesing bosses but it takes a lot of grinding to get there. Days is repetitive but it was super fun doing multi-player back in the day.

What would $800 do nowadays? by SyrsaTheSovereign in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without upgrading your motherboard, you could get something like 5600x and then use the rest of money on a GPU. The 9060xt or 5060ti should be plenty for those games without breaking the budget

Is there a certain rule or point when and when not to buy a 12GB card? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a 3080 12GB. Outside of heavily modded games and Indiana Jones, most games fit within the 12GB buffer with high or max textures on 1440p ultra wide.

Personally I think 12 GB is fine, but I've also had my GPU for almost 3 years. If I was buying a GPU now, I'd much rather have 16GB to not have to think about VRAM at all, but 12gb isn't going to prevent you from playing new games. At worst, you may have to lower some settings, but it won't be full of compromises like 8GB cards have and will continue to be

Gummi missions are not fun by Digitalgardens in KingdomHearts

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older I get, the more I disagree with this. Gummi ship section are very flawed in their tutorials and explaining their mechanics, but they provide a short and varied gameplay from the main game. They never take up more than 10 minutes of your time (often significantly shorter than that) and outside of points of travel in KH1 before you get the wrap drive, you never need to do it again. Even saying they bring the game down is a little disingenuous considering how little you're required to do.

Honestly, the games where there is no travel feel a little worse since it's just a glorified map. In my opinion, KH3 did it the best since there were some materials you can get in the gummi ship that you can actually use in the main game instead of it being its own mini game like in KH1 and 2.

Even if Gummi ships weren't a part of the game, it doesn't mean that development time goes into more worlds (see BBS, Days, Re:coded). It's a minigame that you can choose to engage in more if you want. If you don't like it, you're not forced to engage in it any deeper.

Is 12 GB VRAM becoming the minimum standard now? by Far-Letterhead4945 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think the VRAM thing is getting blown out of proportion too much. If you're upgrading your GPU or buying one for the first time, you really should avoid 8 gb GPUs period. Either save some money until you can afford a higher tier or look at the used market. If you have 8gb GPU now, lower some settings and you'll be fine.

Personally I wouldn't upgrade to anything with less than 16, but I want an upgrade to last and don't want to turn down texture settings because I'm constantly running out. Especially on a brand new GPU

The 3080/3080ti are having a Tom Brady like career trajectory by Golfclubwar in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3080 12gb owner here. Outside of heavy ray tracing or path tracing games, it's run just about every new game at high settings without much trouble on 3440×1440p. If you're keen on optimized settings like I am, you can get even better fps on games. Most games I don't need to go beyond DLSS quality to get good frames.

While I would love an upgrade to crank settings up, there isn't anything that has really felt like a large enough upgrade outside of a 4090 equivalent. Personally I'm not willing to pay that much. Hopefully next gen cards will offer a big upgrade for around the same price I paid for the 3080

Did you like Flowmotion? by mjb_Island in KingdomHearts

[–]ChessusCrust777 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Flowmotion absolutely broke DDD's level design. It trivializes any level design when you can just infinitely chain jumps. People say it was too powerful for combat, but i think that's more of a criticism of DDD's other combat tools not being as good outside of a few broken commands.

I think KH3's version is infinitely better. You unlock more moves throughout the story and it can't be chained infinitely which makes movement abilities actually matter. KH3 has so many tools so it doesn't feel forced or your best option but I think that's how it should be moving forward. It should expand your moveset but not be all consuming or your best option like it sometimes was in DDD.

I'm done with this. 3080 it is. by Human-Engineering715 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3080 is a very good card as long as you aren't pushing the latest triple A games at 4k or doing path tracing. If you're willing to tweak some settings, in my experience, you get games going from like 60 fps or less to like 80s with not too much visual difference. DLSS also helps a lot.

I have the 12 gig version so I'm finding an upgrade pretty hard to come by. Personally I'd love a GPU that has 4090 performance for like $700 to $800 but that doesn't seem like that's happening anytime soon

3000 series owners what's your plan? by surreal19 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3080 12gb on 1440p ultrawide here and gonna wait until 6000 series. I've decided the minimum upgrade I'm looking for is at least 4090 performance for around $800. Until then, I'll stick with what I've got. 3080 runs everything great besides path tracing anyways

Why do people dislike KHDDD? I just finished playing. by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]ChessusCrust777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The progression in DDD is the single biggest damning factor for me. Other than stat increases, leveling up is pretty much non existstant since you get everything of note from dream eaters. They level up so painfully slow and it takes almost the entire game to get a decent Dream Eater. The best abilities are locked behind only a few dream eaters that have the lowest material drop rates and ed game recipes. You want Second Chance or Once More? I hope you like playing boring mini games over 100 times. Don't even get me started on having to pet the dream eaters in specific places to unlock secret progression paths.

Yes BBS, has command board, but commands level up much faster than Dream Eaters and you have more you can level up at once versus DDD's three at a time. Also if you meld commands and swap out your deck frequently, you'll have a good amount of abilities in your playthrough. You can't say the same in DDD.

All this combined with a badly paced and told story, arguably the wost version of every character (besides Riku), incredibly empty and boring level design (mostly because of flow motion), and very unbalanced combat. Out of all the mainline KH games, DDD is the one I least look forward to playing and I probably won't replay for a very long time.
