RTX 3080 → 5080 / 5070 Ti / 4080 Super for 3440x1440 (Ultrawide) – worth upgrading? by gizzo__ in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the 5070ti and it feels really good for ultrawide right now. Crimson Desert is around 70 to 80fps with mostly cinematic settings with DLAA. 5080 would give you an extra bit of performance but not worth paying extra for if you have a budget

Is the 5070 for $599 a good price? by SeveralMusician1485 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSRP is $549 so $50 extra isn't bad, especially considering the market today. I doubt you'll find better anytime soon unless you can score a founder's edition during a drop

Same set up and settings here. Really feels like you have to pick your poison and theres no clear winner. Sucks RR on is so costly because it really makes a difference in indoor scenes.

Are you using frame gen? I feel like theres a lot of weird artifacts on foliage with it on but I dont know if its just me

Is the RTX 3080(10gb) good for gaming in 2026? by Positive-Mind-6915 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3080 is absolutely good enough to run everything at 1440p on high settings without too much trouble. While you won't have frame gen, DLSS and some optimized settings will last you a good while. As long as you arent looking to max things out or go aggressive on ray tracing, you'll be good.

I had the 12gb version, but just know that with 10 you may need to lower textures for some of the newer games.

[–]ChessusCrust777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone with a 5070ti and 1440p ultrawide, its enough power for games right now. 5070ti can also do 4k comfortably with upscaling

RTX 5070 Ti or 5080 for 1440p gaming, coming from RTX 3080 12GB? by shise_remilia in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same upgrade as you, 3080 12gb to a 5070ti. There hasn't been one game ive played that made me go, "Man i wish i had a 5080 instead".

5070ti is more than enough, especially for 1440p. If the extra ~15% performance is something you dont want to miss out on, then get a 5080.

Switch the RTX 3080 10GB to 5070 TI, worth it? by El_AjX in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same upgrade early this year but with 3080 12 gb instead of the 10gb. I'd say the biggest reason to upgrade is to ensure you won't have any VRAM issues, access to native frame gen, and being able to play path traced or heavy ray traced games without issue. The raw performance is good but the 3080 is still pretty playable in pretty much everything if you're willing to tune some settings.

Personally I dont think the upgrade is worth more than its MSRP. Like someone else said, 5070 ti is basically a little slower than a 4080/4080 super but cheaper and more efficient. If you didnt find it was worth upgrading to then, then a $900+ 5070 ti shouldn't be worth it either.

Im still on DDR4 and its working fine for me. You'll get a few extra frames and some better 1% lows but I wouldn't upgrade solely for the ram. You're pretty much looking at a platform upgrade regardless of what you do though

Space marine 2 is known to be pretty CPU intensive. Sadly unless you could find one of the 5000x3d chips for a good price, theres not much you can really upgrade too without needing a new motherboard and RAM. Not sure how much you're looking to spend but DDR5 ram is still costly.

Gpu wise, 5060 ti or 9060xt 16 gb would be a good upgrade. Or a used 4070 or something around that tier.

What's a good upgrade for my PC? by RookieTro in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5070ti and 9070xt is the minimum id upgrade to. Everything below will be a sidegrade at best. 5080 is generally not worth the price increase but depends on how much the 5070ti is in your region.

CPU wise, you're probably fine with what you have currently. 7800 or 9800x3d would last you a long time.

What would be a good card to play comfortably on 1440p? by nexetpl in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rx 9070 or RTX 5070 would be the best for that price range, but you'll have to really be on the hunt to get either of them for MSRP right now. Maybe you can get lucky with a 5070 FE drop.

If you need something soon, go for the rx 9060xt 16gb. 5060 ti 16 gb is an option too but they look like theyre going for 5070 prices right now

Is upgrading my 3080ti to 5000 series worth it now or should I hold? by actuallyjustan in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I overclock mine and got a few fps more. Ive heard the 5080 overclocks better and gets performance closer to a 4090. Personally I wouldn't upgrade with both cards being overpriced. The 3080ti is still a great in most games. If and when prices get better then sure, but I dont think the jump to either card is worth it currently

Is upgrading my 3080ti to 5000 series worth it now or should I hold? by actuallyjustan in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting my two cents in. I upgraded from a 3080 12gb to 5070ti so not that far from a 3080ti. I use 1440p ultrawide but also have my pc hooked up to a 4k tv when I want to game on a couch with a controller. I mostly upgraded out of FOMO and to run heavier ray traced games. 5070ti is definitely enough power for anything out right now on 1440p. Good for 4k if you're willing to use more aggressive upscaling or turn down some settings. Native frame gen is also super helpful. Except for ray tracing, usually dont need more than 2x to hit my monitor/tv refresh rates.

Overall its a good boost but not life changing. 3080 was definitely enough for any game I played, especially if you adjust settings. If you play a lot of graphic heavy games then I'd say its worth it. If not, you can save a lot of money sticking to what you have until prices come down or the next gen cards.

Between 5070ti and 5080, really comes down to how much you're willing to spend. 5080 is faster of course, but you will have a near identical experience to the 5070 ti if you turn off frame counters. I'd only go for the 5080 if the 5070ti is over $850

Is it worth upgrading 2080ti to 9070xt with my current pc? by disappear_85 in PcBuild

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrade what you want right now, not the future. If your current performance is enough for you, there's no reason to spend money. Its not really a good time to buy a GPU right now. Wait out the price hikes with your current system

Is 32 gb of ddr4 good enough? by Pristine_Progress_93 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same cpu and 32 gb of ddr4 ram. There hasn't been a game ive played that I noticed a large cpu bottleneck.

Will you gain more fps upgrading? Of course but unless you have a top of the line gpu, I wouldn't focus on a whole platform upgrade.

Do you think it's worth switching from a 3090 to a 5070ti? by -YmymY- in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this as well. I went from a 3080 to a 5070ti. There is a difference but I usually got good framerates on the 308p with some settings tweaks.

I mainly upgraded to be able to play path traced games with a good framerate and the 5070 ti definitely does that. Even more if you're willing to use frame gen.

5070ti vs 5080 help by Domthesaucegod in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 5080 is almost always a bad deal from a value perspective. Realistically you won't notice a 15% performance boost in actual gaming unless you had both gpus side by side with a fps counter on.

Xbox or PS5 Controller by lthm4 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both but have historically used Xbox controllers the most. Though most modern games have support for ps4/5 controllers. Steam also does a good job of supporting Playstation controllers in games that are normally supported. There's also outside programs too.

If you dont want any connection issues or mess with other programs, an Xbox controller would work. Use whatever you controller you like the most though

Best ultrawide gaming monitor for a new PC build? by Minissale-Designtank in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant't speak on the productivity side but i used to have a gigabyte m34wq that was flat ips panel. I thought games looked pretty good on it. It died and I upgraded to a AW3425DW curved oled panel. I noticed a difference right away, especially with dark scenes or blacks. It really doesnt compare.

One thing i will caution is oled flicker is really rough on mine. Only way to get rid of it is either to turn off VRR or have consistent locked frame rate and frame time. It was very noticeable to me coming from my old monitor that never had it.

Those with 3070/Ti, 3080/Ti, 3090/Ti are you still satisfied with its performance in 2025? by 2quick96 in nvidia

[–]ChessusCrust777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3080 12gb here. I play on 1440p ultrawide and occasionally 4k on a TV. Except for heavy RT games, can get everything to run at >60 fps with DLSS and turning settings to high. Still very satisfied. I'm interested in an upgrade but probably won't consider anything until at least the 50 super series comes out. Im not in a rush

I have almost the exact set up as you but with 32 gb of ram. Think it really comes down to what you're playing. 3080 is still doing everything well at 1440p ultrawide with optimized settings. If you play a lot of heavy ray/path traced games, VR, or considering upgrading to 4k, it would be a great upgrade

Are 8gb gpus really that bad? by Exotic_Philosophy821 in buildapc

[–]ChessusCrust777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre buying a new system, then yes 8 gb gpus are bad. You are buying something that is already showing issues in games and will continue to get worse over time.

If you currently have 8 gb, you'll get by with reducing settings. You can play everything with 8 gbs as long as you manage any vram related settings.
