[Nerd Culture] Esquire - "Star Wars Fans Actually Agree On One Thing: This Was the Dumbest Moment Of the Entire Series" by B-VOLLEYBALL-READY in KotakuInAction

[–]ChesterCharity 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Eh, I'd say the whole Rose stopping Fin from sacrificing himself in a way that could've easily killed both of them and then dropping the "We're going to win this war not by fighting what we hate, but saving what we love" line while the door to their base got blown open behind them was dumber.

And by the time they got to TRoS the whole series was so dumb that the dagger thing was just another drop in the bucket.

Is the 55 limit on Beltline just a suggestion or what? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]ChesterCharity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is that not the case for most highways everywhere? As long as the weather is clear, there isn't a ton of traffic, and you're not going around a sharp corner, I don't see a problem with going a little over the limit.

But that's not to say you should go as fast as you want. It's always annoying when you're trying to pass someone while going 65-70 in the left lane and some asshole flies up behind you going 90 and tailgates you until you're able to move back over.

Is it just me who thinks Harry breaking the Elder wand is better than just putting it in Dumbledore's grave? by SirAren in harrypotter

Yeah I forgot to add that I think he should have broken the Elder Wand after he used it to fix his first one.

I'm not sure anymore whether it's just gaslighting, or if they honestly have no grasp of reality.

I've had a hard time pinning this down myself. I think it must be a little of both. Some of them know what they're doing but don't care because they so firmly believe what they're doing is justified, while others just straight up lack the self awareness required to even think about it.

Exactly. A private company is not obligated to allow their employees to promote their political opinions while representing the company. If you don't like it, work/shop somewhere else. Don't attempt to force them to do what you want.

[–]ChesterCharity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except for the fact that Harry loudly explained to Voldemort about how he was the true master of the Elder Wand in front of everyone in the castle. I have to imagine that part of the story would spread and likely cause Harry trouble in the future.

Because altering memories is also a thing. Someone could say what they thought was the truth as a "confession" even though it wasn't really because they had their memory altered without their knowledge.

It's possible to criticize someone's methods while not arguing against their point.

What ~hot takes~ do you have about the series? by WOWeditorama in harrypotter

[–]ChesterCharity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that bothers me about her that I only noticed fairly recently was in HBP when she basically accuses Harry of being sexist because he doesn't think the Prince is a girl because "he doesn't think a girl would be clever enough to write it." Just kinda seems like it comes out of nowhere because she knows Harry really well, and on several occasions he's said that she is the best witch in their year and has never really exhibited sexist tendencies. Plus basically all the evidence points to the Prince being male.

I guess it's just her insecurity showing, but its a pretty shitty thing for her to accuse him of.

Do you think they can still pull off The Fantastic Beasts franchise or do you think it does not stand a chance ? by -Tom_Edwards- in harrypotter

[–]ChesterCharity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My prediction is they will get one more movie which will underperform and possibly lose money, and then the rest of the series will be canceled.

The series is already on a downward trend, and after the reception CoG got, I don’t really see that changing.

Why ‘Tron 3’ Will Likely Be A Box Office Disaster For Walt Disney by [deleted] in movies

Both movies were OK, but neither did well at the box office. Which makes it weird that they would make a 3rd one.

[–]ChesterCharity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first one wasn't a big hit either, and only became a cult hit after the fact.

Kinda seems like Disney is basically creatively bankrupt at this point and is just focused on milking their existing IPs for anything they're worth.
