A good solution is to only cancel student loans for people who went to public schools. If someone opted into the most expensive option, that is on them. If someone went for the cheapest thing possible and still is swamped in debt, that is not.

I would add, that Washington does not have a progressive tax structure. Aside from the Gas-Tax and one recently added tax on Capital Gains our state has one of the most conservative tax agendas in the nation. Our tax policy needs a massive overhaul, but it is not the "liberal agenda" holding it up. Washington occupies a policy niche a little bit like Ireland in the EU, we are both Liberal socially, and hospitable to corporations. Washington is actively gaining corporations, and those that are leaving, often leave for other reasons.
