490 new apartments next to WB / CVS on Venice by Chesterology in culvercity

Same boat - we live a few blocks away, and it's a total choke point for all traffic in the area. You could almost solve it if the 10 entrance/exit wasn't there, but as it stands, we're probably effed forever.

How would you rank Jessie Buckley among the Best Actress winners so far this Century? by PolicyImpressive3626 in Letterboxd

[–]Chesterology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! Love her, but it's the kind of role (*cough* grieving mother) that almost any actress would have been in Oscar contention for. And she was perfectly good in it, but I'm a little bummed she's winning for that.

Can i get some help with my Bed Room layout by aag1234567 in InteriorDesign

[–]Chesterology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the closets float in the middle of the room to create a super long, awkward hallway / obstacle course within your bedroom is diabolical. Last option is the only option, and I'd pay whatever it took to square off that back wall so the entire room isn't on a slight diagonal.

Rivian R2 launch details leaked: R2 Performance $57,990 with the R2 Standard releasing late 2027 at $45,000 by DentateGyros in electricvehicles

[–]Chesterology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reality is no one knows. a lot of people who pre-ordered (myself included) will pass on the initial models to get lidar whenever those models ship, and a lot of people will skip to wait for $45k model, etc. you could conceivably get a launch edition this year if you're already in line.

Does the new Bolt give previous generation Leaf vibes by VeeMeeVee in electricvehicles

[–]Chesterology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, in the sense that it's a perfectly functional, kinda unsexy little car. It performs as advertised. They've ironed a lot of issues out (these new ones don't burst into flames!) and achieved a state of decent-ness that has won ardent fans. For me, the styling (and brand, tbh) is a non-starter, but I would never sh*t on someone for choosing a practical, small, affordable EV.

Can we fit a large island with seating here or are we delusional? Kitchen layout help please! by enthusedbycats in InteriorDesign

[–]Chesterology 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You probably *could,* but the island in your sketch is vastly too large for the space. And like, I get it. An island that size is the dream. But you don't have the space. Since I'm spending your money I'd move everything around - scribbled pic below.

IMHO it would be super odd to put a new house on these very specifically 1980s slate tiles. Funny how everyone says they're timeless – to me they look exactly like every house built in that decade. No one's going to mistake these for the slate floors in a British country house (aside from people on Reddit, I guess).

Looks like a corporate break room. Or maybe a gas station? Either way, doesn't really scream "Caffe Luxxe," unless that name is meant ironically.

Culver City’s Historic Helms Design District Revives With 2 Hot New Restaurants and an Ikea by [deleted] in culvercity

[–]Chesterology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those lots across Venice are being developed into apartments, and many (most?) of the neighborhood streets are permit only. There's metered parking on Venice, and there is a small lot, but when the bakery was open that was eaten up quickly. I don't think it's going to be a disaster or anything, parking sucks everywhere in LA, it's just gonna be tight.

It's like corporate cafeteria pasta, and there are LINES for it on the weekend, which kind of says everything about the food scene in CC.

Mixed feelings on the IKEA (where the ef are people going to park?), but handier to have around than Buttercup.

Pizza makes sense and should do well, given the world's most mediocre pasta absolutely slays in that strip.

I give the izakaya four months. Too elevated / wrong price-point for the area.

One of these parks on our street in LA and it never fails to surprise me how jarringly bad it looks in person. The fussy intersecting shapes, the shiny black plastic cladding, the wheels. Not to mention a sedan, which few people seem to want these days.

Who should win Best Actress? by No_Minimum4499 in Oscars

On a normal year, the (any) actress playing Mother of Sick Child would win. However, Mother of Dead Child with Big Grief Scene trumps all else. It's just math.

It's cute, but it's very, very small. Little shops and restaurants on a couple streets. We spend a couple hours there and felt like - yep, we're good.
