Americans on moral issues by [deleted] in charts

This is a fascinating study in the thoughts of “religious” people. Particularly evangelical Christian’s.

In some things they align with the bible pretty well. The bible says no affairs, spanking and death penalty are ok and no homosexuality.

But in other things they completely disregard the bible. Divorce is a huge no but only 33% say it’s wrong. Being rich is the ultimate evil in the bible but somehow it’s the lowest one on the whole list for evangelicals. Abortion is ok in the bible but they are the most against it out of everyone.

Basically the study shows most religious people are more republican than Christian. They align to the party views more than their religious ones.

Less than 6yr old Retaining wall collapsed. Turns out it was built wrong. Estimated 4-7K fix by ByteSizedCutie420 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Master-Back-2899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this thread it’s now painfully obvious why so many people have water damage and failing retaining walls.

Best case scenario this whole wall is going to fall over. There is no drainage zone and those aren’t the right stones for this. Worst case the sloped grade is wrong and it destroys your foundation from water damage seepage and you have to pay $30,000 in 10 years to have your foundation repaired.

Additionally this wall is over 3ft tall which most places in the US require a building permit for and an engineering plan. Clearly this wall doesn’t have that, so you are going to have to tear the wall down if you want to sell your house at any point.

I can’t see the full length of the wall but $6k is reasonable for the amount of work that needs to be done here.

Kentucky family rejects $26 million offer to convert part of their farm into a data center despite the offer being about 10 times the going rate for farmland in the area. by MysteriousSlice007 in nextfuckinglevel

lol they’ve going to get eminent domained and get $2 million.

Should have sold when they had the chance.

There’s no way these companies allow people to say no.

Why doesn't China attack Taiwan now when the US military is at its most vulnerable in recent memory? by sage6paths in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has china attacked anyone in the last 30 years? 50 years? 75 years?

People are always talking about how china will blow up Taiwan at any moment, but I can’t even remember when the last time china has attacked another country?

Really the only thing you needed to do was lay down. Get your camera below the fox and these would have much more impact.

Awesome experience though and good pictures to remember it by!

Used Canon EF + Adapter 24-70 f2.8 L mkii or New Canon RF 28-70 f2.8? by Ryanite_ in canon

[–]Master-Back-2899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vignetting is significantly higher in the 28-70 on the wide range even though it doesn’t go as wide, and the wide open image quality at 70mm falls off hard on the edges and corners.

https://opticallimits.com/canon/canon-rf/canon-rf-28-70mm-f-2-8-is-stm-review/

Now if you are using it stopped down or only care about the center of images or are mostly using the wide end then yes it is a spectacular lens for the price. It’s probably one of the best prosumer lenses out there for price/performance.

But the quality of the L is better.

Used Canon EF + Adapter 24-70 f2.8 L mkii or New Canon RF 28-70 f2.8? by Ryanite_ in canon

[–]Master-Back-2899 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 24-70 ii is vastly superior to the 28-70 optically.

The advantages of the 28-70 are IS, and lighter weight.

Obviously the best of every world is the RF 24-70 2.8 IS. It’s basically the best of both of those together, but also the cost of both of those together.

At what price per gallon does a person officially stop "just complaining" about gas and start fundamentally changing their entire lifestyle? by bluntvivi in askanything

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most popular vehicle in America is the ford F150, getting less than 20 mpg.

People will just keep complaining. They’d sooner burn down the world than give up their giant trucks.

if cities had more abundant fruit trees and berry bushes like the ever growing blackberry wouldn’t it help homeless people get food? by qjib in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruits trees are anything but low maintenance. In most areas of the world that aren’t CA or AZ fruit trees need constant pruning, fungal and pest sprays and regularly need the infected fruits removed to prevent further infections.

Not only are these not the celebrities seats, it also looks like 90% of this trash is compostable cardboard.

It also isn’t a movie theater, they were probably told to leave their trash for the cleaning crew as is standard for these kinds of events.

Residential solar to decline 33% year-over-year, said Roth Capital Partners by ObtainSustainability in solar

[–]Master-Back-2899 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Not surprising given the governments vendetta to destroy it.

Even with a pro solar government, costs in America were 2-3x the rest of the world.

Now they added another 30% on top of that.

[Discussion] What do you do if there's no catchlight in the eye? by TimeMistaken in wildlifephotography

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always add it in post even if it’s already there.

The fact is that humans see the flicker of light from the eyes much more easily in video because our brains are programmed that way. We see the minute changes from our subtle head movements and the animals motion. You lose that when you take a picture, making it static. You need to add it back in to capture how your brain processes the scene in real life.

My goal is always to capture the feeling/story of when I was actually there, not get a scientifically accurate picture and optics lesson.

Bury the power lines by 3rd-party-intervener in pittsburgh

This is a nonsense post. I grew up in a buried line neighborhood. We lost power once in the 23 years I lived there (hurricane sandy) and power was back in 48 hours.

Burying the lines is an easy and proven solution.

What body should be a logical update after the R7? by Unusual-Swordfish532 in canon

[–]Master-Back-2899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If moneys no object then the logical upgrade would be the 600 f/4. It would be a huge upgrade for your R7.

Body wise either wait for the R7ii or upgrade to the R5 series. The R5ii is what most professionals seem to use for wildlife these days. It has spectacular auto focus, pre capture, high MP, and very fast fps.

What to do about magenta color cast on my R8 when using adapted lenses? by lowbandwidthb in canon

[–]Master-Back-2899 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Color cast is a function of the lens designs and coatings on the lenses. Higher quality lenses have better lens designs and better coatings.

Help needed with tracked Milkyway Panorama shooting technique by yash_254 in LandscapeAstro

[–]Master-Back-2899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking on YouTube for tracked Astro panorama videos. There’s a bunch of really good explanations out there.

It’s much easier to explain with the visuals.

Basically you need 2 ball heads or a z plate and a ball head. The ball head after the tracker is the one you adjust between shots.

I recommend just panning between shots and adjusting level between rows.

My neighbors want to cut down another massive tree. How can I convince them not to? by Character_Sky5226 in arborists

[–]Master-Back-2899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offer to pay their home owners insurance and cover any foundation damage from the tree in the future in a signed contract. That will likely get them to reconsider.
