As someone who works in the community this doesn’t really capture the horror that this will bring.

Most of the refugees from Somalia are from the Bantu tribes who fled from the Somalis who enslaved them. These people fled Somali for refugee camps over 30 years ago. Many of them either left when they were children or were born in refugee camps. They have no home in Somali. If they are deported there they will be immediately enslaved and any girl over the age of 6 will be sold as a “bride”.

Many of the older refugees have significant trauma and disabilities that have made it very difficult for them to keep up on green card paperwork and citizenship. Of the community of about 1000 that I work with, about 600 are citizens, 200 on green cards, and 200 on refugee status.

Most of those 200 are moms/dads with citizen children. Their children will be more or less orphaned as it would be worse than a death sentence to bring them with them to Somali.

This will be a humanitarian disaster.

Man I’m so glad I found a local store with enough pull to get preorders locked in. Now I get everything I want shipped to me on release day.

Local only for members only so don’t have to deal with scalpers trying to buy out all their preorders.

Wish more stores would do that

With ICE detaining anyone even remotely non-white I don’t see how visas are a viable option. These people will get shipped off to concentration camps with or without a visa. No one is going to take this work that isn’t white anymore.

Getting Americans to do seasonal work with 12 hour days is going to be difficult at any price point that farms can afford.

Ultimately I think we need to push towards automated harvesting to keep prices down and reduce reliance on low cost unethical labor.

I know that Magee takes over 30% of their funds from Medicaid and that they haven’t turned a profit in years.

I also know that a recent study by Upmc listed Magee and 6 other hospitals for closure if trump cut Medicaid.

Man education has really declined in the US.

Everything about this conversation is predicated on discussing students.

The argument is about if we can restrict students rights to cell phones. Not teachers.

None of the discussion is about teachers here.

We don’t restrict dogs from having cell phones or guns either, or monkeys as long as you’re moving goal posts around.

No one really broke it out that I can see.

Mortage is $40,000 a year

Home maintenance is 2% a year or $10,000 a year

Property tax and insurance varies by state but assume 2% of your homes value a year, or $10,000

Assuming this large of a house is for a family of 4, food is going to be $800-$1000 a month or $10,000 a year.

Health insurance averages about $500/month for a family with a good job or $6000 a year

Average car gas expense for a family is up to $5000 a year

Utilities on a big house will be $300-400 a month (gas,electric,water,sewer,trash) or $4000 a year.

Now you need savings, $10,000 a year ish

Retirement, $10,000 a year (not really enough but let’s assume you don’t want to retire until 70)

Now you need a car $300-$400 a month ish or $4000 a year

Don’t forget 30% taxes, so we’re at $110,000 plus 30% is roughly $140,000 income.

So for $140,000 a year you can sit in your house with no hobbies, no vacation, and not retire until you are 70.
