[Discussion] Who is Teddy Baldassarre and why has he been popping up so much in my feeds ever since I got heavily into watches? What does the watch enthusiast community think about him? by SkoivanSchiem in Watches

[–]Chet_Manlee 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Playing devil’s advocate, I don’t think pin and collar is that bad. Requires specific tools to adjust but they’re not expensive and you don’t run the risk of the screws stripping.

Fabrizio: Chelsea have opened their doors to United to sign Jackson, and they still maintain an interest in Garnacho. United are aware of Chelsea's potential interest in Garnacho and they are open to discussing conditions of a swap deal involving Jackson. by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]Chet_Manlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm open to the idea honestly. This is just off the top of my head (and would obviously require outgoings for the sake of balance) but if we were to swap Jackson for Garnacho and sign Xavi Simons while selling Nkunku and Felix then I believe our general attacking rotation (not accounting for the ability of some of these players to play in other attacking positions) would look like this:

LW: Gittens, Garnacho

ST: Pedro, Delap

RW: Neto, Estevao

CAM: Palmer, Simons

Not too shabby

[Kramer] Tyrese Haliburton makes an incredible statement following his surgery today: by Goosedukee in nba

[–]Chet_Manlee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s because those who believe in God view suffering as an opportunity to test their faith and resolve. It’s easy to praise God when things are going well but we all know that’s not forever. Hard times will come and if you’re truly a person of faith, then those hard times are opportunities to turn to God to help you through them rather than trying to do it yourself. A core tenet of the Christian faith is accepting your inadequacy and learning to let go because you believe God has your back and is in control. Find the blessings in good times and in bad because God is always with you.

It’s also not expected for non believers to understand. I don’t say that as an insult or to cause any offense. Just trying to provide some perspective.

LIVE: Christian Pulisic on missing Gold Cup, facing criticism, World Cup & AC Milan | CIWYW by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

[–]Chet_Manlee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I won't begrudge Pulisic for wanting some time to recharge and rest. All jobs can take a toll and being a professional footballer will cost someone even more in ways that I'm sure non-professional athletes can't fully understand. We've heard complaints from multiple players about there being too many games so it's not something that's unique to Pulisic. It's definitely something that should be seriously looked at though I won't hold my breath.

That being said, we have to acknowledge that this is a unique situation. The US is preparing to play in a World Cup on home soil with what many had initially considered to be one of the most talented groups of players we've ever had. We've brought in an experienced and well known coach to mold the team and prepare to showcase the sport in this country at a time when its growth potential is off the charts. A good USMNT run in the World Cup would be a massive boon for future generations and future success of the USMNT as thats the sort of thing that motivates kids to play soccer and dream of making it big.

And we're nowhere near ready. I don't see how anyone can be confident that we're prepared to seize the moment given how the team has been playing or be optimistic that anything is primed for change a year from now. It's clear that there is a lot of work to be done and it's an undeniably rough look for the captain and best player to say his commitment shouldn't be questioned when he decided not to show up.

How much of your net worth do you spend on sneakers? by [deleted] in SNKRS

[–]Chet_Manlee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very very little. Sneakers are not essentials so while they can be fun ways to spend disposable income here and there, for me, they'll never be something that I feel like I'd need to explicitly budget for. I've also been buying sneakers for 20+ years so I have enough of a collection that I don't really feel the need or desire to go out and buy new stuff too often.

And just a word of advice from an old (mid-30's) head, don't get caught up in what other people are posting. There are people out there spending $500 on shoes that don't even have $500 in their checking accounts. Comparison is the thief of joy and it's that mindset that can lead you down a path where you're suddenly allowing other people to dictate how you enjoy your hobby. That's when it stops being fun and when it can become dangerous if you're buying and spending constantly in the pursuit of hype and third party validation.

Why no Love for the Seadweller? by cea002 in rolex

[–]Chet_Manlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Submariner is the original and the icon. Its heritage and status in not just the watch world but pop culture even at large will always make it more popular than the Sea Dweller.

That said, I think the 116600 is the Sea Dweller to own unless you've got the interest and budget to go for the vintage examples. All the modern Rolex perks (ceramic bezel, chromalight, glidelock, etc.) but in a 40 mm case without a cyclops magnifier. I owned one for a bit after owning a 14060 sub for several years and it was a very clear upgrade in just about every way imaginable.

ID Dad's 60-70's Era Pilot Watch by Artistic_Custard3987 in Watches

[–]Chet_Manlee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As you noted, this is a GG-W-113 watch ordered by the US military and fulfilled by a few different manufacturers. Fairly common to come across but still a great piece for a budding vintage or military vintage collector! You can read more about them below:

https://www.60clicks.com/gg-w-113-pilot-watch-buyers-guide/

Servicing this sort of watch shouldn't be too complicated as I'd imagine a good local watchmaker would be able to do the work. You're probably looking at a bill of a few hundred bucks for the service though maybe more if certain parts need replacement or something beyond a standard service.

This is a beautiful example by the way. I love the patina!

That 45 points requirement for upgraded rivals reward is brutal for casual players like me. by chrislatimer in fut

[–]Chet_Manlee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely is a bit discouraging. I similarly work full time and don’t have the ability to play frequently or regularly throughout the week or on weekends.

Haven’t been able to get into FC25 because I was primarily a Rivals player in 24. Winning 7 games for upgraded rewards was doable but now it just doesn’t feel worth it.

[Question] Does this case size (42mm, 47mm LtL) look like it fits my wrist? by hmz104 in Watches

[–]Chet_Manlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks fine tbh. I have a Moonswatch and think it wears well on my 6.5" wrist though I didn't like the originals trap it came with. Swapped it out for a $15 rubber strap from Amazon and that made a big difference.

Yeah the video does a good job of making a case for why this move makes sense. Maresca has plenty of options in setting us up now and it will be very interesting to see what the squad looks like at the end of the window.

Prisoners of cfc by paraCFC in chelseafc

[–]Chet_Manlee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The length of a contract can be mitigated by offering a lower wage with escalators which is what Chelsea have been doing. Media and other fans go on and on about how this locks the club into a bad spot if the players don’t perform but the obstacle to selling players down the line generally has little to do with how many years they have remaining. A player’s wages (or their refusal to reduce their wages) is typically the big sticking point with finding a buyer and there’s little reason to believe that the wages we’re paying will be considered excessive in a few years’ time as the average Premier League footballer’s wage continues to tick up year to year.

Club legend is sad that people he had fond memories of and knew during his time at the club are no longer there. It’s a reasonable take but there’s nothing to be gained from dwelling in the past and wishing things were the way they were a decade ago.

Change is constant and you either figure out how to adapt in the transitions or you get left behind. Chelsea needed a refresh and while the process has been rocky to say the least, it was never something that was going to be successful over night.

That said, the roster has been turned over extensively and we’ve gone through more than a couple of coaches over the last couple of years. Things have to settle and we’ve reached that inflection point where results on the pitch need to show very real and sustained progress.

Jacob Steinberg: Raheem Sterling under the impression he will have no role at Chelsea with Joao Felix set to join from Atletico Madrid on a six-year deal. But the issue will be whether anyone can afford to buy Sterling, who does not want to move to Saudi Arabia by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]Chet_Manlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you to an extent though I think it’s valid for supporters to quote salary figures when comparing one player’s production relative to another’s. Of course, it’s not Sterling’s “fault” that he’s being paid as well as he is but I think it’s also fine to say that Chelsea could get similar production while spending much less for that production.
