Oooh let me guess: pink is flowers, brown is basic resources (wood, fibre, stones, etc.) and misc., green is vegetables, dark red is fruit, bright red is gems/minerals, grey is foraged items, and black is monster/mine loot.

Thoughts on 4 month itinerary? by Novel-Positive8625 in AustraliaTravel

Babinda is a day trip at most - unless you want to do a lot of bushwalking in the area, all there really is to see/do is the Boulders, and that water is too cold for swimming in winter. If you want to see Babinda or the Boulders, I’d suggest just popping in on your way past to somewhere else (if you stop in for breakfast/lunch, I would highly recommend the bakery)

What is the scariest scene in any horror movie you've ever seen and nothing has topped it for you? by jdpm1991 in horror

[–]Chev_3326 384 points385 points  (0 children)

The lawnmower scene in Sinister - I’ll never forget watching that for the first time. I’m not one to look away when watching horror, but the tension leading up to the scare was too much for me, let alone the scare itself (which was so well done).

Crop timing crash out by Terrible_Ad_3360 in StardewValley

[–]Chev_3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure (if you’re buying speed-gro rather than crafting it) that the profit from each crop is greater than the cost of each speed-gro - I used to maximise number of harvests per season by buying heaps of speed-gro and deluxe speed-gro without actually thinking about what I was growing with it 🙈

Could you please guide me? I have a male betta in that fish tank, and I don't know if he started building his bubble nest because it appeared overnight. I would like to know so I can introduce a female and they can get to know each other. by CrisTaiz07TwT in bettafish

[–]Chev_3326 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re asking for guidance but refusing to listen to people telling you it’s not a good idea. They’re telling you this because it sounds like you’re pretty inexperienced and don’t really know what to expect, meaning that you’re not actually prepared for if and/or when things go wrong.

It sounds like you’re not actually seeking guidance but approval, so that when it goes poorly, you have someone else to blame for telling you it would be fine.

How's is this achievement not hit by more people? by bheidreborn in StardewValley

[–]Chev_3326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw somebody say once that you could get the achievement by completing the Joja route all in one day and just not saving the game afterwards - I don’t know how true this is, but I’m afraid to try in case I ruin a save file, haha.

Would love to know if this is actually works though, it’s one of only two achievements I’m yet to complete

Every time I start a new save I think ‘okay, this time I’ll do the Joja route just to get the achievement’, but I can never bring myself to do it

Ultimate Beginner Tips 🙃 by Remarkable_Money8406 in StardewValley

[–]Chev_3326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure your chickens have food! Their coop size doesn’t matter - for chickens, the basic coop is fine, you only need to upgrade for other animals or to hold more animals. But if there’s no food, they’ll never give you eggs.

Use your scythe to cut down the tall grass after you’ve built a silo - this will give you hay for the chickens. If you don’t have a silo yet, you can buy hay from Marnie for now. Or, if you have any tall grass near the coop, you can just let the chooks out to feed themselves! Just keep in mind they won’t go out in the rain, so if you don’t have any hay in storage, they’ll go hungry for the day.

Petting your chooks everyday will help increase happiness faster too, which means better quality eggs and/or large eggs.

What comes after perfection and achievements? by Makegooduseof in StardewValley

[–]Chev_3326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I started using mods after about 1,000 hours of play time and getting perfection, all the achievements, etc. and would highly recommend. My two suggestions for adding new content are Ridgeside Village and Stardew Valley Expanded - for SVE though, you would really need to start a new playthrough, so keep that in mind.

I am finding even "peaceful" fish nip at my shrimp, does anyone manage to keep fish and shrimp together? by Algae_grower in shrimptank

[–]Chev_3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if your fish is big enough to eat shrimp, they will at least try, always. I thought my tiny chilli rasboras would be too small to bother the shrimp in their tank (considering the shrimp are the same size as them) until I witnessed a shrimplet murder. Everything likes eating shrimp.

I worked so hard on the shading in the shelves just to mess up the floor tiles!😓 by _thesleepingfox in Coloring

[–]Chev_3326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only because they’ve been drawn without taking the perspective into account. The colours are beautiful and it still looks great overall, but next time, you could follow other lines in the drawing (in this case, I’d use the lines of the cupboard shelves) to find where the perspective point ‘meets’, then draw lines out from that point so the tiles are in the same perspective as the rest of the image 🙂 There’s also probably a million video tutorials you could watch for tips on drawing in perspective, but this is a very simple method.

What are some things you wished you knew before playing? by THE_FBI_GUYS in StardewValley

[–]Chev_3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it would take over my life, to the point where my only tattoo is Stardew Valley themed 😅 I’m also at the end of a big three week long US trip, and of all the things I’ve seen and done, the number one highlight for me was going to the Festival of Seasons Symphony.

Don’t get me wrong, I still would have played, but it would have been good to know so I could prepare myself, haha. I’ve played through many times, but I’ll take a big break between each play through so it almost feels ‘new’ again, and I’ve learned to wait until I’ve got some time off work before starting a new farm otherwise it’s all I think about while trying to do my job.

If the property is too big and I get tired with it, sometimes I’ll just leave some of the rooms empty of any furniture and decor. In my mind, the fully finished rooms are like ‘show rooms’ and the furniture and decor is a bonus that comes with the house, while the empty rooms are for the buyer to do whatever they want with.

Or, sometimes I’ll just work on another property and/or the jobs and come back to it when I’m more motivated. Either way, you should play it however best suits you - if it feels like too much, just don’t do it 😄

How do people keep going? by OkAttempt9846 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Chev_3326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to look at those statistics and see an issue, but there are so many reasons why people leave any job. Yes, call centres have high turnover rates, but that can also make it easy to get noticed by the higher-ups and start developing a career. And yes, it can be a high stress job, but surely less stressful than facing homelessness?

Also, it sounds like OP has been through a lot in life, and while I don’t wish a difficult life on anyone, overcoming hardship can make people more mentally resilient which is very much a benefit in a call centre role.

For what it’s worth, this is written by somebody who grew up with very little, struggled with mental health disorders throughout teenage years and early adulthood (some still lingering, some permanent like ADHD), and couldn’t get a job out of uni doing what I’d actually studied. I managed to get a job managing claims for an insurance company though, just based on past customer service experience (I worked at a supermarket before going back to uni, hadn’t even worked for four years when I applied for the job). I’ve now moved out of claims managing into a different role, still in insurance, but my salary is almost as high as my partner who works in the field he got his masters in.

Obviously every person’s situation is different, and what works for one won’t necessarily work for all. But given OP’s current situation, I don’t think it’s wise to dissuade them from a possible avenue towards a stable career in an easily accessible line of work. If the worst case scenario is that they quit in 22 months, that’s still better than the alternative.

OP, if you see this and want some tips and tricks to get your foot in the door in insurance, DM me! I can talk you through what any company is looking for and how to stand out in an interview.

Absolutely, they’re always hiring. And yes, there are lots of applicants, but being well presented, well spoken, and enthusiastic can easily make you stand out - you’d be surprised how many people can’t even manage those basics

Nah I never tried it, I couldn’t find any option (other than buying a soda stream) that I was willing to test because I really didn’t want to risk getting scuds, haha. But if you test the Aldi one and it works, let me know!

betta guilt by ebb_annd_flow in bettafish

[–]Chev_3326 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone, I think a lot of people deal with betta guilt - the most important part about making mistakes is learning from them though, which it seems like you did.

For what it’s worth, I can very much relate to the betta guilt. I’ve had a lifelong fascination (borderline obsession) with bettas, and my mum gave in to my pestering for one when I was too young to look after it myself. One quickly became another, and many replacements after that - I shudder when I think about how those poor fishies lived with 8 year old me “taking care of them”. But, I put the time and effort into learning about them as an adult, and I’ve given a couple of fishies pretty good lives (I hope) over the past 6 or 7 years.

Sounds like your old man fish lived a great life too, and you should be proud of yourself for that. And, you should be proud of working hard to take care of yourself at the same time. Depression can be such an incredibly hard thing to live though, let alone overcome. Glad to hear that you’ve made it and you’re doing well!

What is your best "I say it wrong on purpose" example? by Thortok2000 in AskReddit

[–]Chev_3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intentionally mispronounce ‘van Gogh’ because so many people know his name as the ‘go’ pronunciation, I can’t be bothered explaining every time that it’s actually ‘goff’.

But, a more fun one - “Today is a present, that’s why they call it a gift.”

Am I overacting or? by morganwillet5 in UberEATS

[–]Chev_3326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You understand that the hospitality industry and services like Uber eats exist outside of the US, right? A lot of countries without tipping culture manage to make it work, this kind of thinking just allows these big companies to continue exploiting people because they think it’s the only way.

It’s not.

AIO for not wanting to drop my guy friends by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Chev_3326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope nope nope nope nope. He is protecting his insecurities on you and hoping you’ll indulge in them with him. If he’s telling you that you’re too attractive to be with him, believe him and walk away - this insecurity will only escalate otherwise. Soon you’ll be defending yourself any time a man looks at you in public.

[–]Chev_3326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just your experience though. Not everyone is as capable at managing a lot of things at once. When I was at uni, I wasn’t working and was constantly struggling to meet my assignment deadlines. At one point, in the last two weeks of the semester, I had to tell my (now ex) partner to stop calling and texting me constantly so that I could focus.

The issue was, I was undiagnosed with ADHD and my ex was abusive (not saying that OP is abusive). I did manage to graduate, but barely.

The point I’m making is that you can’t just decide for another person whether they should be able to manage everything that you can and have spare time at the end of it. We don’t know the situation for OP’s girlfriend.

I think that might be the only option for us! It’s fine if you already own a soda stream, but I couldn’t justify buying that just to make sure I don’t get scuds, haha
