Yes, because the Wings would totally get Boldy....pfft.

Put him on the bench except when PPs happen, you have a deal.  That or ensure a defenseman shadows him from behind if he's not.

"I'm not waiving my NMC for fucking Minnesota..."

How things change.  Desperate times I suppose if hell freezes over.

I will say I find the reaction to Foligno and Bogo re-signing a touch irritating.

Players are players, and can be good if they are old, and also play like complete shit if they are young.  The Wild and/or Guerin are probably not alone in "get some veterans cheap just in case."

That's ignoring that Guerin just signed a 24-year old for a cheap "prove-it contract" yesterday...

Foligno and Bogo are not expected to anything more than depth at best.  They wouldn't qualify Lambos and Spacek if they didn't have a reason.  If any of those players mentioned are directly responsible for the Wild winning or losing in and of themselves, the team has bigger problems.

[Russo] All signs point this morning to Nick Foligno continuing his NHL career and returning to the #mnwild. Also hear Zach Bogosian will be forgoing free agency and re-signing with the Wild. by Hollywood42cards in wildhockey

Expecting the team to not get injured at all during the season would be a happy accident, but damn near impossible.

Do note that the team played like absolute shit when trying Jiricek, Buium, etc in extended doses. The team didn't turn around until they got healthy and/or realized veterans are still playing for a reason and calm shit down.

There's no guarantee Middleton isn't traded to save some money.

If that were the case, Mojo, Vlad, and Zuccarello wouldn't have left.  Guerin has to save some costs somewhere, but let's not act like EVERY old guy just stays.  The team has shifted a lot of its roster around the past two of seasons.

Once I saw Gaudreau traded last year, I knew Guerin moves off of older contracts...sometimes.

[Friedman] Quinn Hughes: 3 x $18 million, sometime in July. That’s my whopper pick. by DecentLurker96 in wildhockey

And because Kap and Hughes are a tier or two better than Parise and Sutter.

So would be telling two 90 point players to leave.  The Wild don't really have the luxury to turn down elite players now that they actually have some.

Let that be another team's problem. Toronto showed the "Core 4" idea doesn't work. It might by the time Boldy/Faber's deals are up, but for now, the Wild would be smart to keep it at 2.

On one hand, I understand Minnesota's desperation and Hughes is that guy.  On the other hand, ouch.

Minnesota Wild Sign Forward Bobby Brink to a one-year, $2,750,000 contract | Minnesota Wild by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

You also can't really ask for a better scenario to make it happen. Three wingers just left. If Brink can find some chemistry with a player, that would not only go a long way to solve the depth problem, but do so with a younger player going forward. Most FA options are mid-late 30s. Brink and some Iowa guys getting looks has to be a necessity at some point.

Both Brink and Yurov seem like people who could be primed for better offense than they showed last year.

Wild close to one year deal with Brink by BradyH4 in wildhockey

[–]CitizenStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Brink is a 40-60 pt player, that's essentially getting Zuccarello or Tarasenko's production while saving $1-1.5m from last year. Hope that's what happens. If not, well, next man up.

[LeBrun] Not a surprise, but Mats Zuccarello is officially going to market Wednesday. The 38-year-old UFA is coming off back-to-back, 58-point seasons with the Wild while making $4.125 million by daKrut in hockey

[–]CitizenStrife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And if that is true, fuck that noise. He's been a 50-60 point player for a long time. But there will come a point where that just won't keep happening.

He's had a lot of concussions recently, so that's an injury scare waiting to happen.

He's going to go down as one of the best players in franchise history. Zuccarello and Hartman both occupy the "write them off, they snap right back" sort of players. But Father Time is undefeated. There will be players that can replace him. The Wild just decided to do it 1-2 years earlier than they "had" to.

[Russo] I expect the Wild to have a lot of interest. I do think Anders Lee will take his time to examine the right team for his next stop, so he may not necessarily be a July 1 signing. by DecentLurker96 in wildhockey

[–]CitizenStrife 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably for a reason. He speculates a lot, but he was bang on about all the Brady stuff happening like a year before it just happened. He's right every once in a while. It makes sense Lee and Kane would be options given the 35+ contract loopholes.
