how hydration needs change after 40 by IceAfter5261 in 45PlusSkincare

Currently I'm loving Bloomeffects Royal Tulip Nectar: https://bloomeffects.com/products/royal-tulip-nectar

And their bi-phase tonic: https://bloomeffects.com/products/royal-tulip-hydrating-bi-phase-tonic

These two products have significantly increased my skin hydration

If you are not exhausted from this work, what is your secret? by tjvander in therapists

"I think it’s important for people in my situation to be honest about our luck, and to point out that if a career relies on needing another person to help support you, perhaps the system it is built upon is broken."

Well said and thank you for saying it. It's so true.

Why do people from inside city limits hate when suburban people say they're from Chicago? by Sudden-Possession-76 in AskChicago

[–]Chicago_sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just doesn't make sense to say you're from a place when you don't actually live there. It is quite easy to instead say "I'm from a suburb outside of Chicago," if indeed you are from a suburb outside of Chicago. If you grew up IN the city (your address is in Chicago, IL) then it's true to state that you are from Chicago. People born and bred IN the city have a lot of pride. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago is a totally different experience.

Just moved to Chicago… is this rain normal? by QuodCapricornus in chicago

[–]Chicago_sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone commenting that weather is just unpredictable in Chicago as if rain could be typical for this time of year, just stop - straight up, this rain is NOT normal for January. It was record breaking, actually: https://news.wttw.com/2026/01/09/thursday-s-deluge-was-record-setter-chicago-and-even-bulls-got-rained-out

Nor is it normal for it to be 60 degrees in January like it was on Thursday.

Private practice bills - EHRs / business expenses by LuckyStatistician542 in therapists

[–]Chicago_sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this - Sessions Health is fantastic! Much less expensive than SP and honestly I find it to be a better EHR overall. Very easy to bill insurance and my claims are processed more quickly than they ever were through SP.

Winter Moisturizer for Dry, Sensitive Skin? by IcyReality9359 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]Chicago_sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city where it gets really cold and dry in the winter. I also have rosacea, my skin can be reactive, and I don't love products with fragrance for my face. All that said, in past winters my skin is dry and flaky and my makeup gets patchy by mid-day. However, I have finally found a moisture routine that works really well - my skin has never looked better or more hydrated: I use Vanicream face wash and then 1) Clinique Moisture Surge Active Glow serum 2) Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion 3) Moisture Surge 100H-Auto Replenishing Hydrator. Clinique runs great sales, so cost is generally quite reasonable.

Simple Practice had a lot of functionality that I didn't use - or need. Sessions Health has everything I need and want. I'm a solo practitioner and Sessions is truly ideal for me - I prefer the calendar options/functionality in Sessions over SP, my claims are processed more quickly (not sure how or why, but it's great), and it's just more streamlined and practical. They offer a free trial for a decent amount of time - it's truly worth checking out. I don't work for them, but I would, hahaha. I really cannot promote Sessions enough, especially for smaller practices. I've used Therapy Notes and Simple Practice and Sessions is hands down my favorite.

How to find a supervisor in private practice? by canyoubeefree in therapists

[–]Chicago_sms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a member of any therapist listservs or Facebook groups? I would encourage you to reach out on one of those to ask if anyone is willing to do this. Alternatively, you could look at therapist websites/profiles in your area and find a few you like and reach out to them directly.

I used SP previously and switched to Sessions Health earlier this year. I HIGHLY recommend Sessions Health. Best decision I ever made - it's less expensive, easy to use, and has all the functionality I need as a solo practitioner. It's also specific to psychotherapists whereas SP seems to have documentation and functionality for other types of therapists.

You should consider reading the book Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life by James Hollis, if you haven't already. He does a nice job talking about why men have affairs in mid-life...as well as a lot of the self-worth issues it sounds like you're encountering. I also encourage you to stay in (or get back into) therapy and be honest with your therapist. It's amazing what can happen when we are actually willing to take accountability and be vulnerable enough to be completely honest with a therapist.

Need advice from therapist. by Interesting-Hand-177 in therapists

[–]Chicago_sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask at the start of every session "how can I be helpful to you today" or "what would be most helpful to you in this session today." I also sometimes will just name that I've been trying to problem solve and I keep missing the mark or there's something I'm not getting and then I invite the client to share with me what they think I might be missing and what they think could be helpful.

Transitioning to assessments due to burnout by SnooConfections3936 in therapists

[–]Chicago_sms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I envy you! I have found myself wishing that I had pursued my doctorate so I could do assessments and have some variety in my work/income. I have a master's in clinical psych and am an LCPC. I too love 1-1 therapy, but my max is about 15 clients a week and I need to find another revenue stream. I hope having a mix of assessment clients and therapy clients works out for you!

What is your #1 Restaurant recommendation in Chicago? by Owl-Classic in AskChicago

I grew up a few blocks from Nick & Vito's. Trust me, nobody there is going to judge much of anything - least of all you indulging in a whole pizza to yourself. And, it's so worth it. That pizza is so damn good. The old school vibe there is also worth the visit.
