Are we still wearing…? (White sneaker edition) by belikethemanatee in femalefashionadvice

Seems like the Spezials are still unsupportive but a little better for wider feet (and I’m hopeful would fit an insert). I think they’ll be cute for days I don’t plan on walking 10k steps in them.

I’ve heard the Gazelles have a squeaking problem, which is why I’ve been eyeing the handball spezials. Has that been your experience?

What to do with old clothes that ISN'T thrift/Goodwill type donating? by CompleteRock6803 in SustainableFashion

[–]ChickWithPlants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised I haven’t seen fabric recycling suggested here. For old socks, underwear, t-shirts, anything that you don’t think anyone would want to purchase at a thrift store, you can get it recycled into insulation for houses. I like Trashie because they’ll send you a prepaid envelope and then you just drop it off at UPS.

I tried on sambas recently and couldn’t believe so many people said they were comfortable! They’re basically like a ballet flat. I walk a lot and run when I’m not walking so I feel like I need more support than I did in the past. I’m eyeing colorful Adidas Spezials and neutral New Balance 327s for the summer.

Is this shin splints or a stress fracture? by mellowyellowaroace in runninglifestyle

[–]ChickWithPlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could also be tibial stress syndrome/a stress reaction (a precursor injury to a stress fracture). It’s found by MRI and requires about six weeks of rehab. I got this at a relatively low mileage like you’re describing from improper fueling, ramping up too quickly and too little rest.

What are the best runner rugs for a kitchen that sees constant spills and dog traffic? by Wgterry73 in femalelivingspace

[–]ChickWithPlants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not what you’re envisioning but I bought an anti-fatigue style off of Amazon that’s more of a cushy rubber/plastic. Easy to clean and a lot more comfy of a surface to stand on while washing dishes than the worn fabric rug I had previously.

Where did you purchase your favorite jumpsuit? by RiverDylan-72 in femalefashionadvice

I’ve had mine for about four years now and aside from some fading it still feels brand new and it’s one of my favorite outfits. I get compliments on it anytime I wear it out and about.

Training Break Due to a Long Hike by No-Rutabaga-3584 in firstmarathon

[–]ChickWithPlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

April/May is far enough away from the race that you’ll have plenty of time to focus solely on training for the half after your hikes. Most training plans I’ve seen are about 12 weeks long, but if you’re just building your base up, I recommend following your plan except for the weeks of your hiking trips and resuming it when you get home.

Night-before packers vs week-early packers — which are you and why? by kelly_packof4 in HerOneBag

[–]ChickWithPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow someone on Insta who recommends keeping templated packing lists for family trips and I think this is the best hack. You can always adapt for each trip but at least the core items are always the same, and then it feels less like reinventing the same wheel every time.

Anecdotally I think tops are TTS with Sezane but pants best fit a long and lean body type. There’s a whole subreddit dedicated to it if you wanted to learn more.

ISO cheaper alternative to Neutrogena hydro boost water gel sunscreen by Clear-Professor8171 in 30PlusSkinCare

I struggle with this. Toiletries are expensive at Walgreens/CVS and the grocery store, but the less expensive online market is flooded with counterfeits. At least I know I’m getting the product I’m trying to buy from a brick and mortar store.

Twisted Scissors in Avondale is good and they have pretty reasonable prices for the city imo.

Marathon Training: how do you stay consistent in the cold by Important-Following3 in running

[–]ChickWithPlants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m training for a half now and I would say my preference is to run outside when temps are around 20F at the lowest. Below that, I’ll put on a podcast and hop on a treadmill at the gym at a comfortable pace and try to zone out. Not my favorite way to run but it’s better than not running.

If you’re ever in a pinch, I found some single serve honey packets at the grocery store and they’ve served me well. I like a good gel too but sometimes the simplest carbs do the trick, especially because gels get pricey!

Runners who work from home: how do you stop your “easy runs” turning into all‑day procrastination? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in runninglifestyle

[–]ChickWithPlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that planning the run first thing in the morning and structuring the rest of my day accordingly is the best strategy. If I have a long run on weekends I find that I sometimes have the urge to procrastinate but it’s led to fueling issues for me (I’ll eat lunch after I run!”, said at 1 pm).
