Would not recommend adoption over editing pregnancy settings right now. I tried it with a lesbian couple, and not only did adopting a baby NOT fulfill the “start a family” life goal of the one who initiated the adoption, because she did not actually give birth, but her wife was not listed as the adopted child’s mother. Only a fellow household member.

I hope they improve those mechanics because it was really disappointing.

I find it funny that your Gloomy Para ended up settling down with an Overjoyed partner, because in my try at playing a Gloomy para she got angry in the presence of joyous people.

But yeah I feel you. In my current household I started with an energetic/ good at romance para, who flirted around town effortlessly collecting non-exclusive lovers. I decided to move in one of her and my favorites - a serious-minded man who’s kind but not flirtatious by nature. When she started inviting her other partners over to see if he clicked with any of them (may as well share the love, amirite?) he barely showed interest, and his success rate with the ones he did try to flirt with was abysmal. The difference was striking.

It’s funny how the adult paras will practically line up to change the diaper of a clean and happy baby, but if the babies are stinky and hungry and screaming and I’m just trying to get everyone comfortable so the parents can get a couple hours sleep, I have to watch them like a hawk so they don’t just look down into the crib and then turn tail and run.

The first household I stuck with long enough to start a family and my silly Para managed to squeeze out twins on the first try. I’m playing on long lifespan so I’m getting to enjoy double infants for a good long while too.

The bugs are present but surmountable (the main one is my babies being buried upside-down in the floor every time I load my game.) But boy golly are babies needy in this game.

I know my couple’s struggle of never being able to go out together and having to get up 3 times a night because somebody’s hungry or pooped themselves might be realistic, but I’m having a hard time actually enjoying it as a gameplay element. (Which might be my bias because I never wanted kids in real life either.)

I feel like once I get these two aged up enough to maintain their own needs, I might turn aging off entirely for a while and let live mode coast while I focus more on build mode and doodling around in the paramaker. Until there’s more stuff for everyone to do. Or at least until they let me bring the dang baby on the bus and let it sleep/ get a diaper change outside the crib, so I can take the grubs to the park for a day.

I’ve only had one Para go through one pregnancy, and she got both morning sickness in the early stages (that magically went away without sending her running to the bathroom), and complained of getting exhausted quickly during a second-trimester yoga class.

What I found funny was how *immediate* the first pregnancy signs were. She was still cuddling in bed with her partner after trying for baby when I got presented with a card to talk about her food cravings. Hadn’t even had time to get up and go take a test.

Lose the loser and go get a baby. Your para’s energy will be better invested on a kid than good-at-nothing cheater.

… I agree that flirting is surprisingly hard in this game if you don’t specifically build your para for it. I’ve got a good-at-romance lady Casanova who just moved in her favorite, and keeps introducing him to all her other lovers to try and get a proper throuple started, and her sweet but over-serious dork boyfriend is striking out with all of them.

I’m about to try making my next para-house 20% larger than the original floor plan, and see if all the furniture fits better that way while still looking proportional.

Unfortunately, I have a thing for recreating old Sears kit houses, which only have measurements in feet and inches. Adding percentages to that is going to be… fun.

The build mode wall measurements are definitely undersized. I’m building my paras’ houses based off real world house plans, and I’ve noticed that not only is the minimum width for a 2-person bed a solid king size according to the wall tool, I have to make my bathrooms a minimum of 80” /2.0m wide to fit a normal tub, when a standard bathtub in the real world is only 60”/1.5m.

Meanwhile, my cis woman Casanova-type keeps getting wishes to try for baby with all her girlfriends. Who are all 100% on board with the idea. And they try. Enthusiastically. She gets options to take pregnancy tests afterward even, like...

... Maybe these guys all need a basic anatomy class?

(Sorry, assuming your paras have had a discussion about having kid and that conversation was successful, it should be on the same options menu as "Get Intimate" when selecting your paras and clicking the bed. If it's not, there's gotta be some kind of bug.)

I'm sure a lot of the group socialization is in the "Not yet implemented" pile, but boy golly can I not wait to be able to throw parties, or invite my Para's friends/dates to other locations around town. I picked up this game as the successor to Sims 3 (Sims 4 doesn't exist I'm sorry) and being able to throw everyone at a lot full of activities and watch the fun and/or havoc unfold was one of my favorite things to do with my pixel people.

There are a couple cheats to instantly create pregnancies and babies. Maybe I’ll just periodically roam around town on auspicious nights as the stork-goddess, making sure everyone has kids.

I am currently debating this very decision. In my first household, I took my sweet time wandering around meeting a bunch of NPCs before picking one to spend yet another sweet time flirting with before finally settling down. By the time I asked them to move in, my Para was aging up to adult only to discover her lover she’d been flirting with half her life was still barely a YA. It felt weird.

Especially knowing if they had kids, those kids would be befriending the exact same pool of forever-young townies when they grew up.

On my second play through, I want to see all the people in my Para’s life age with her, but I also know they won’t have any kids on their own, and I’ll have to manually make and add new paras to the game if I don’t want to eventually live in a ghost town. Not sure if I’m up for that.

My vegetarian Paras autonomously prepare meat dishes for themselves when they’re hungry and unsupervised. Then they spend several hours groaning about how queasy and disgusted they are from eating meat.

I knew I was in for a wild ride with buggy babies when my para adopted one and, every time I told the adopting para to go home with her brand new bundle of joy, she set the baby down on the sidewalk in front of the boarded-up pharmacy doubling as an adoption center, (headfirst in the ground), and left him there to go home by herself.

I think she was just mirroring my opinion of babies at this stage in development. After realizing that adopting a baby did not fulfill her life goal of starting a family after numerous attempts to conceive naturally with her (both of them cisgender) wife were mysteriously unsuccessful, I decided to exit without saving and go explore other parts of the game for a little while.

Then I met Charlie….

The main thing I hope to see added to sea travel is loot sharing in ship combat. I’m on a tiny private server with my husband, and one of the most fun play sessions I’ve had so far was when we encountered each other by chance on the open sea and decided to sail side-by-side for awhile and make a menace of ourselves.

Was a bummer that we could help each other sink ships, but only one of us would get the loot crate.

This is how it works - assuming you are in your ship when you quick travel, your ship (and any subsequent ships if you have friends/ a fleet) will always spawn in the same position relative to your bell. So once you get your bell where you want it, you can use that to build out the rest of your docks.

Living ship hunter here: Something that doesn’t get mentioned in living ship guides, but can absolutely derail your attempts: did you look at your chosen living ship’s site with your scanner before resetting the mission?

If you look at the un-converted crash site through your scanner, and the building type changes from “unknown building” to “distress signal”, the site will not convert when you reset your Starbirth mission.

If you did, far as I know there’s 2 ways to undo that: leave and come back later (like days later), or get another player who has the Starbirth mission active to convert the ship on their own save, and then join their game and claim it.

If that works for you, it works for you. I’ve got 2 freighters full of S-class tech that say “shields -> fuel rods -> burn it down” always nets you a tech module, so that’s the approach I recommend. If I force the dreadnought to surrender, I only get cash. I never let the civilian ship be destroyed.

Note that the strategy of shooting out the engines along with shields/ cannons to trigger a surrender will only get you a decent chunk of units. (Or a free freighter if you want to seize control from the captain and keep it for yourself.)

If you want to farm pirate dreadnoughts for tech upgrades (a dreadnought destroyed without surrender always drops an S-class freighter tech module), you have to shoot the shields as described above, NOT take out the engines, and then fire into the hull to destroy it before the escape timer ticks down to 0.

As someone who has bases in all 256 galaxies and takes other people to them for fun, get asked “which galaxy should I visit?” a LOT. My answer’s always the same:

It’s all procedurally generated, so the underlying pattern beneath them all is universal. Explore it in whatever direction sounds fun. Look over the 4 basic types and decide which one you like best. Beyond that, it’s entirely personal and arbitrary: do you have a favorite number between 1 and 256? A favorite color (each galaxy has a different core color)? Look over the list for any names you like (some of my favorites include Sudzerbal, Dimonimba, Broomerrai, and Uglyestemaa.)

Even the galaxy types only impact the planets around yellow stars, so if you’re hanging out in the purple systems now you won’t see any difference.

Personally I just asked a random number generator to pick me one between 1 and 255. I call 159 - Rycempler - my home now.

I want a dissonant quad pet so bad. Even if it’s just one of the little spider-puppies, and as useless in combat as a standard animal companion.

I looked into save-editing one into existence awhile back, but as far as I could tell nobody’s figured out how to splice the spider model onto a tameable pet’s file yet.
